  1. Ha, it was a '94 Miata. A neat little car but nothing I'd post pics of in that thread. My wife just got a '20 Mustang convertible, so the Miata became redundant. Why have hamburger when you can have steak, right? I don't miss it at all, I had it for 2.5 years and I sold it for twice what I paid. Thanks, Covid, I guess. And I'm in the OKC burbs, condolences accepted. As usual, I feel a bit better after letting of some steam in here. Thanks to everyone who take part in this thread, you guys are the shit.
  2. I'm letting things add up and weigh on me. Why? I KNOW it doesn't have to be like this. I am allowing my job to affect my peace of mind. I thought I was over this shit for a few years, I don't know why I'm all of the sudden falling into this trap that I made for myself. I want to let shit roll of my back but I can't. I was doing so well with that, too. My brother-in law's sudden passing in January is still heavy on my mind. It's making me think back to my mother's sudden passing, 14 years ago. I spent a week in the hospital last fall and now, every time I have an ache or pain, I just assume that my time is up, just like Mom and BIL. WTF? I just feel overwhelmed, I don't even know how to have fun anymore, it seems. I sold my project car last week, I was pretty much done with it and it was just sitting there in the driveway. Now I want something else but I can't find what I want, or I find something way out of my budget and I just want to give up and never bother trying to do anything. My poor wife tries to be supportive but I know she's at a loss. I just want to run down the street as fast as I can, yelling like a viking berserker. I'm angry and scared. I don't know why.
  3. There were no gardens or gardening, so it was quite a bait and switch. Lots of storm shelter/siding/window vendors. This is the price I had to pay for my wife going to various gun and car shows.
  4. I went to a home & garden show in Oklahoma City over the weekend and there was a booth from what I assume was the Texas tourism board. I find this whole topic interesting, so I asked this very nice middle-aged woman about the camping ban and her face just sank. She said she lives just outside of Austin but she frequently has to go to the capitol for work stuff and it's no longer a fun trip. Pretty much echoed many of the sentiments posted here.
  5. My wife's company is struggling to get furloughed employees back. These are bartenders, servers, BOH people, guest relations. Many have told her they're making more by staying at home. They just put on a 2 day job fair, they're desperate for help.
  6. About 25-30 years ago, I remember seeing my mom crying at the table, not a huge bawl-fest but she was upset. I didn't say anything, I just found my dad and asked him what was up. He said my mom got a letter from my grandma, telling her that she won't be able to continue to write letters anymore. Her memory problems were just too bad. I was around 20 at that time (selfish moron) and I only met my grandparents 5-6 times, so I wasn't exactly bothered by this but my mom was crushed. She and her mother wrote to each other all the time, they didn't do many phone calls. That was pretty much her only connection to her mom and it was over. Looking back as someone in my late 40s, it's really sad.
  7. "Pass the detergent, Recruit!" I'm triggered!
  8. It's been over 30 years since I've been there but from what I remember, one of the most beautiful places around. We were in Wiesbaden and I always liked going down to Heidelberg.
  9. USAF, we were in West Germany for 6 years.
  10. You gotta be gentle. Otherwise, that's how you get mad cows.
  11. I was 12 and living in western Germany, I honestly don't remember much fuss about it. Too busy beating off to pay attention, I guess. I can't give blood either, due to possible mad cow disease exposure. Thanks, Europe!
  12. I have moved past the car warranty and health insurance calls and now get solar power calls.
  13. I don't get the desire to be scared like that. Roller coasters, glass bridges, no thanks. If I want to feel terror, I'll look at pics from my first marriage.
  14. No, this one is in Oklahoma. Rest easy.
  15. I went last night and it was the worst whataburger trip ever. First, they put the burgers in the wrong wrappers, so I bit into my wife's horrible burger. Then the fries were obviously stale and crunchy, almost like old cheetos. Then my lemon pie, which I had let sit a while, was nuclear hot. I took a bite and had to spit it out. The filling poured out like hot tea, nothing resembling pie filling at all. Just an all-around clusterfuck. I'm avoiding that location for a long time.
  16. Thanks a lot, B'Omer.
  17. Do you really think those cops were going to do some hard-nosed police work in those 2-3 hours and not just play grab-ass or hide in an alley? Because I sure don't. If anything, they'd probably just give out some bullshit tickets and ruin the day for some taxpayer.
  18. I was too cheap to pony up for a wireless xbox controller for my PC, went to Gamestop and bought a decent controller with a six foot cord. It works fine but the fucking cord has to twist itself up in 4 spots for some reason, making the effective length of the cord about a foot long. So I have to uncoil the thing every time I use it, then watch it flip back.
  19. My mom lived for 10 years after having cancer. Dad swears that the chemo is what really got her in the long run. The treatment ruined her immune system, she was always sick with something after that. Colds, flu, even became asthmatic, which she never had before. Heart failure took her one morning, coming up on 14 years ago. Never saw it coming, 58 years old. RIP to all we've lost before their time.
  20. The whole Sex Packets album is great. This is a bummer. Gutfest '89!
  21. They should sell them at a gun buy-back program. They get the cash and can still keep the guns. 5D chess and all that.
  22. No, but did you hear about all the police shootings???
  23. I assume the shooter was an employee? I don't think it's a coincidence that there have been shootings like this at high stress jobs like FedEx, USPS, etc. I wonder if the high pace these companies demand is just too much for most people. My friend that worked at a UPS sorting facility in the early 90s would tell me they only gave you so many seconds per package to route that shit and they were watching. I bet the Amazon fulfilment warehouses are a timebomb as well.
  24. Usually, it's because they have fuck-all to do. Gotta look busy!
