  1. I think Trump may be close to cancelling his WSJ subscription.
  2. I'm not surprised, or all that upset. My guess is that Trump and other clients weren't specifically named in the grand jury transcripts, and if they were released, Trump would've screamed that this was some sort of vindication. The Trump lawyers probably told him this, and the fact that a judge likely wouldn't grant a request to release the transcripts, so he told them to make the request so he could claim transparency and, gosh darn it, he's getting to the bottom of this.
  3. Wally Joyner. I derp'd Jamal-Warner with Joyner. This is what I get for posting before sunrise.
  4. Ed Helms should starts.
  5. Did you also see how his last name is spelled?
  6. Are you talking about Gunnar Helms?
  7. There were certainly aspects of the show that were unique to the African American culture. But Joyner’s character and his performance as Theo had universal appeal for the American teen. He was so great.
  8. If I remember the story correctly, his mom didn’t drop him off at the mall. They were together in a JC Penny or Sears, and the mom left him in the toy section while she went to a different part of the store.
  9. If you want nightmare fuel, look up the Texas Monthly story on The Heights abductions in the 70s.
  10. Even after the TV movie about Adam Walsh, my parents still gave me free roam in shopping malls. Now that I think about it, maybe they were trying to get rid of me.
  11. Ha! Somewhere during eighth grade my son took an interest to girls, which has increased his frequency of showering, teeth brushing, and deodorant application.
  12. Same here. Early on I never really worried about my daughter's "third space." Since elementary school she was active in sports year round, and then got into guitar. So when high school rolled around, she had a third and fourth space -- the basketball team and the classical guitar program. I was a little worried about my son. He was never into sports except for basketball, and he had nowhere near his sister's athletic ability. So I had some concern over whether he would find his "thing," and I didn't consider sitting in his room gaming all the time as a "thing." Unlike his sister who was playing guitar since second grade, he had expressed no interest in musical instruments, until he got to middle school, and then without any suggestion from me or his mom, told us he wanted to join the band and play flute. By eighth grade he was first chair in the flute section and marching with McCallum High. And he loves his band community, which has been so good for his social development.
  13. I'll probably volunteer one year for the McCallum pit crew. It does look like a lot of work, but I helped out with my daughter's basketball team at McCallum, and I think it was good for her to see her dad be part of the parent support group.
  14. A lawyer friend in town told me that his wife has helped Lake Travis high school students with the college admissions process over the years, and said that in her experience band kids had some of the highest college acceptance rates. I think a lot of admissions staff know that band kids work their asses off, and that level of discipline looks good on a resume. My son is a freshman in the McCallum High band, and last year was lucky enough to get "called up" to be a part of the McCallum band as an eighth-grader for the football season. That included early morning band practices at McCallum starting at 6:50 a.m. before husting to Lamar, Friday night football games, and a lot of Saturday UIL competitions that lasted most of the day. He absolutely loved it, and as his father I was damn impressed to see him work so hard. He thinks he might want to join a college marching band at a big school, maybe Texas, maybe somewhere out of state like Oregon where his sister is. But I do wonder if by the time he goes to college, after five years of intensive marching band, he'll get burned out by it. It's a grind.
  15. I don't think so. At least not for Oregon. My daughter visited the school just once, and didn't do any sort of official campus tour and didn't meet with anyone at the school.
  16. You’re welcome for my attention to this matter.
  17. To be fair, after the NC State game Mack really shored up his special teams for the rest of his tenure and then became OU’s bitch.
  18. I’ve said it before, but Colorado doesn’t give shit for merit aid unless your kid finds a cure for cancer. Oregon threw some generous money at my daughter which made nonresident tuition much more bearable. And she thrived her first year in Eugene. I don’t mind one bit of Kid No. 2 wants to go there. And he’s also in marching band and might want to continue in college.
