  1. Retton has also aligned herself with one political party and she was in USA Gymnastics leadership when they were going through their scandals. At that point she made comments that some interpreted of supporting the organization more than the gymnasts. It’s her right to say or believe what she wants but taking a stand can impact endorsements.
  2. Yes because the elected (once) govt of Gaza is a acknowledged terrorist organization. I can understand why Israel blockages weapons from getting in, and obviously the blockage isn't that good.
  3. Was Israel in Gaza? Someone correct me, but I think Israel would have been happy many times if Gaza wanted to break off on their own. But that doesn't mean Israel has to accept a terrorist state (Gaza) to exist next door with the sole purpose of eliminating Israel. Important to note that Egypt wants nothing to do with Gaza as well.
  4. One fact that I was unaware before this war was the differences between the Palestinians in Gaza vs the West Bank. While both Gaza and West Bank have struggles with Israel, Gaza's blockage and overall condition are support by Israel, Palestinian leadership in the West Bank and Egypt. They're all in agreement that Hamas has gotta go and they pursue the suffering of the Gaza citizens that voted Hamas in power. While Gaza is attacking Israel, their fight is effectively with everyone including Muslims.
  5. Awesome seeing the Foo Fighters at a "small" venue in Houston last night. ~5,000 capacity. While floor GA could create some blocked views at times, no one was far was the stage. Also unique without an opening act. I found the secondary market ticking pricing interesting to watch and I ultimately pulled the trigger. The price was trending down leading up to the final day and then jumped significantly on Tuesday. But within 2 hours of the show, some seller panicked and dropped 50% from earlier in the day. There is a benefit living close to the venue so you can take it or leave it if the price doesn't fit your budget.
  6. It's very interesting that the minority in the GOP believe they are the true republicans. Must be interesting to see the GOP go at each other because they've sharpened their teeth on Dem attacks so they know how to go after someone or press their buttons.
  7. If the GOP cannot get close with any candidate, then I could see McCarthy brought back as a compromise candidate.
  8. If asked I would have thought she was endorsing something to make a decent living but then again I can’t recall the last time I saw Retton on anything.
  9. There may be significant pressure to select a Speaker especially now that Israel is in a war. Deals can always be made, and I don't call it an impossibility to see some Dems agree, with their leadership permission, to vote for a Republican for Speaker. The House is effectively 49-49-2. I know that we're not at a point for this to happen today but 2-3 weeks from now is something else.
  10. I would think it's more of a power trip and wanting to dominate someone.
  11. I would put money on McCarthy being back in the Speaker role when the GOP realizes that Scalise or Jordan will never be selected.
  12. If Iran is kept out of this mess in Israel, Israel won't have much trouble clearing out Gaza. I'm not even sure that the West Bank is even thinking of doing anything here.
  13. I wasn't didn't witness it directly but there was a story from when I was in a frat where one active made a suggestion that a few actives should pretend that they were going to sexually assault a couple of the pledges. Scare 'em or something. Everyone else quickly rejected that idea as ridiculous and that guy was never allowed to be alone with a pledge(s) ever again. I don't understand why someone would even go there as a joke much less act on it like these guys.
  14. As an aside you can find them at Torchy's in Fort Worth
  15. I would be extremely satisfied with half billion dollars. I wouldn't see any need to grow it significantly and take on that risk. After all I didn't get the money for any talent other than handing a convenience store clerk $2. While those great opportunities could perhaps double your money, they could also take a fair amount of it away. And honesty I would have zero ability to recreate that wealth if I started to lose it. I can be honest with myself with that.
  16. I would be tempted to put a large amount of the winnings into a high dividend ETF for a 5% return. Live off the dividends. They will most likely grow with inflation.
  17. I've always thought a certain percent of very religious people are religious because of their dark desires. Perhaps they are legitimately trying to suppress those desires and maybe some do. However the news is full of the ones who don't. These are the type that claim organized religion is the only thing keeping people from raping and killing others. Every accusation is a confession.
  18. What makes this difficult for the rural Rs is that while they are aligned with Dems on the voucher issue, they can be completely opposite on other issues like book banning. Surprised that Abbott is finding other methods to entice the rural Rs, like increased state funding of their schools to ensure the public schools remain whole.
  19. But there are some rich, small town Rs that are behind the movement as well. They could very well make it easy for an opponent to primary some of these people out.
  20. They can never point to a person being out of common sense work due to climate change laws. I assume the guy that used to dump chemical barrels in the ocean struggles to find work in America but is anyone actually complaining about that?
  21. https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/07/us/mitchell-legion-baseball-rape-plea/index.html 6 high school baseball players allegedly raped 2 other players, in what the 6 call a hazing ritual. They've pled not guilty. In addition to them: "Three additional juveniles also are facing charges in juvenile court. In addition, charges against other adults affiliated with the team who allegedly had knowledge of these incidents and did not report them are under consideration, the state attorney’s office said." A TV story on it mentioned that the DA believes this could have been a multi-year issue within the baseball team.
  22. These two are going to have a large fight every decade or two. And since both are becoming more and more conservative and religious, the fighting will just get worse in the future. Hamas knew exactly what the Israeli response would be, and they’re counting on the rest of the Middle East or some countries to react.
  23. I thought the principal's apology and explanation was solid. He admitted he was wrong and explained how he was fixing his mistake. Too many people recite a non-apology apology but he owned his mistake. He sounds like a jackass overall but I don't see any problems with what he wrote.
