  1. Can you switch the ticket to a different traveler? but on alternative strategies, I thought you could change a nonrefundable ticket perhaps even to a different location. Or perhaps you can switch it to a travel credit for the future. Therefore if you can’t get the soon-to-be former employer to reimburse the exiting employee, she can still use the plane fare for a future personal trip. It won’t be exactly be a loss for her but just prepaying future air travel.
  2. Wild finish for the West that all 3 could win the division, get the wild card or get knocked out. With a very slight chance of all 3 getting in.
  3. It would be good to find what Boomers had from approximate the same age but I don't know where to find that. I did find that today, Boomers have an median household retirement savings of $202K. This new report also shows Gen X at $100K median which contradicts my above post that estimates Gen X at a median $40K. Who knows what is right. I assume that Gen X has much fewer pension-like plans than Boomers and definitely Silents. Gen X will bring in even more retirees that are 100% responsible for their retirement income minus SS. My Silent generation parents went with employer plans that gave them income instead of building an investment fund. While they had more guaranteed income, most of the income was locked in at retirement age, and they had no exposure to stock gains, or losses. Over 20 years their purchasing power dropped dramatically.
  4. Typical Gen X (42-58 years old) household has an average of $243K in retirement savings but that's only because the highest savers drive that number up. The median Gen X household is only at $40K. Here is a breakdown of household retirement savings by income levels: The bottom 50% median is at $200 and $4,300. I understand that life isn't cheap and they probably spend the majority of their income on basic necessities but this doesn't bode well for them in the future. And even crazier when breaking this down for individual Gen X. It took me a second to wrap my head around $0 medians. As Gen Xers start hitting SS benefit age over the next 20 years, Congress will have no choice but to print more money to make up for the SS shortfalls. 5. I’ve always heard that you don’t want to even remotely put a high percentage of your net worth into a franchise and that’s counting amounts that you’re liable to pay over the contract. And you have to be prepared to work the franchise yourself.
  6. From IMDB, I learned that Kent grew up to be one of the hit men in Michael Clayton.
  7. Starting your own business vs rising up in the corporate ladder can be two different skill sets. Personally I wouldn’t want to be a C-level in a S&P500 level company for any amount of money. Besides having to prove you’re the 1% of the 1% to get to that level, you have to sacrifice too much along the way. And there are more people that get pushed off that ladder along the way.
  8. Not working for 6 months to get a 3 year deal would seem like they need a ~20% raise over the 3 years to break even. Not too mention how many writers are not starting back because their projects were cancelled or postponed even after the deal is ratified. But I understand the narrative that both sides want the WGA to claim victory. In my opinion the strike hurt the writers and the industry but I don’t know if the alternative was better.
  9. We all know Loving County because it's the smallest population county in Texas and the US: 65 residents. The Chronicle has an exposé on while Loving County only has those 65 residents, there are 110 registered voters. That would be like Harris County having 7.9m voters for the 4.7m residents. The discrepancy in Loving are former residents who claim that Loving is their home even if they rarely visit. One of these residents lives in Fort Worth and openly admits that she visits Loving a couple of times per year especially on election days. The story reads like several families are always in fights about power and now the county is overrun with oil wealth. The county judge is currently awaiting trial for cattle rustling. My main take is that we shouldn't allow a county to exist with 65 or 110 residents. Consolidate it with other counties.
  10. I heard the stories of the Katrina refugees causing havoc in Houston but I personally saw none of it. I definitely recall a few murder stories on the news that I assume really did occur but then again plenty of Houstonians kills each other as well. there was also talk of criminals surprised how they were kept in jail awaiting murder trials and they spoke of only 90-day NOLA jail stays while awaiting trials that may or may not ever occur.
  11. Billy Mitchell still rocking the 80s long hair. I'm sure there are crazier lawsuits out there but could you imagine being called to sit on a jury where the parties are fighting over alleged faked videos of arcade games?
  12. Agree with the advice to deal with HR and not the boss. Termination/exits, final checks, expense reimbursements are their area. Doesn't hurt to call the airlines customer support team about this. Explain the scenario and see if there is any way they could flip this to an airline credit. They don't have to do this but customer reps usually have some leeway in what they can do. Be especially nice to the airline rep.
  13. CBS has probably been telling the BB producers to stretch out the season as much as possible due to the hollywood strikes.
  14. Serve up a heaping’ bowl of some Maine Justice
  15. Can’t speak to desktops or laptops but phones have geolocation to know where you are. You can turn on vpn for another city but your phone knows exactly where you are.
  16. Now we’re building underwater levees to slow salt water progression up the Mississippi River. And daily bringing 36 million gallons of fresh water daily at the water treatment sites. And bottles water for residents. Mother Nature doesn’t want that city to exist. I’m not seriously arguing to abandon New Orleans and its citizens but there is something to be said about letting the environment reclaim a natural balance to some extent.
  17. I feel it’s slightly crazy that 21 Power 5 teams are still undefeated after week 4.
  18. When does she start her Only Fans page to maximize her earnings?
  19. Does the Dallas race even list the candidate's party? In Houston, there is no direct reference to a candidate's party on the ballot and I think the candidates may even have to refrain from listing it on their election mailers, ads, etc. But obviously you can identify the candidate's party by their endorsements and policy goals.
  20. They don't even remotely understand how they're surviving on socialist policies at least in how they would define them.
  21. Definitely people, seeking to replace their income with investment income, will have an easier path if they have a high wage income with relatively low expenses. As income push downwards, the ability to save becomes more difficult since there are somewhat fixed costs in being an adult. Also FIRE can mean different things to different people. Does everyone not seek to be financially independent and hope to retire one day? I also believe it's a false statement to say that FIRE means to retire fully funded by 35. Someone can shoot for that, but IMO that is a very small percent of people following the tenets of FIRE. In my view, most FIRE folks are people that want the option to retire with a full replacement income by 55 but it doesn't mean they will retire.
  22. It's very possible they don't release view counts as well but I could be wrong. If you're an advertiser, you're not as worried if 1.5m watched an episode of the The Bear on Hulu. You care that 10,000 people in your area and targeted demographics watched your ad. That's what Hulu tells them and that's what they pay for. I hope the WGA strike ends soon. I can't imagine that it's going well for the union. I don't understand why some WGA members or supporters are still creating content and having it streamed. I get that they are not breaking the official rules, but they're getting paid while their fellow union members are not. If the strike isn't settled soon, others will start going to back to work.
  23. Nine games to go. Time to nut up or stay home in October.
  24. Sorry for your loss. I'm sure this guy was more appreciative than you will ever know for the kindness and care that you and others showed him.
