  1. I read low 90s and humid. It might not break 40 here until next weekend so that would be very welcome. We usually do our family vacations in summer and are pretty used to Florida, so I am assuming similar? We like a pool, we like a beach, we like to eat out and go on adventures. I like to go on a walk or to go workout first thing in the morning. Wife likes to sit in the sun, I like to bounce around a little bit. Probably minimal day drinking, maybe a marg here or there and a nightcap back home before bed. The biggest thing for us like I said is we are used to 2 bed/2 bath condos/villas/ house rentals. I've never looked at Mexico in part before because it always seems like all of the resorts are either hotel rooms or $1500/night presidential suites. I'm looking at like $3-400/night.
  2. I'm starting to look at Mexico for our summer trip. I have never been. This would be late July. Flying into Cancun, does anyone have any recommendations on where would be a good spot to set up for a week? 4 of us, kids are 15 and 12. I've heard everything from Playa del Carmen to Mujeres and I have no frame of reference. We could be flexible in terms of resort vs Airbnb but I definitely will be looking for a 2 bed/2 bath setup vs standard hotel rooms. Ideally we would be somewhere walkable or a short golf cart ride to both the beach and a town with some fun restaurants and shops. Appreciate any thoughts.
  3. Thought this was funny. The other night my 15 yo was hanging out with me while I was watching hoops. He doesn't have much interest in it anymore. When he was like 7-8 he was very into it, knew players and teams, watched games with me, etc. Now he doesn't care at all but will humor me when I tell him Jimmy Butler got traded to the Warriors kind of stuff. So anyway the Laker game was on, and I had told him about the trade so he wasn't surprised to see Luka on the Lakers but after watching for a minute he goes: "Dad! Is Luka Doncic FAT now??"
  4. Seems like a good kid but I'm not sure how much he loves basketball. He doesn't get on the floor much because he has all kinds of mental defensive lapses. He can stroke it, though his career 3 pt % might not show you that. I hate this era, it's completely stupid. I am very emotionally divested in college sports.

    Getting old sucks

Posted a screen grab of the MRI results. It does not sound good. Lots going on in there. Thanks all for the feedback. I'm sure I will push the recovery envelope like the idiot that I am.
  6. They also had a casino in Vegas just off of the strip. Never stayed there but I played there.
  7. It was not an indictment on you, more on Waikiki. I think we might have talked about it in another thread. Lots of chains. It's the Mag Mile meets Ft. Lauderdale in some regards. But the beach is better and there are pretty mountains. Food trucks might be a good plan.

So how big of a setback is arthroscopic knee surgery for someone in pretty good shape in their mid er late 40s? My only frame of reference are 20 and 30 something professional athletes who are playing again 2-3 weeks later.
  9. Cheesecake Factory is amazing There's an authentic Asian fusion place but I can't remember the name.... Something Chang's See if there's a Grimaldi's pizza
  10. This hits close to home. Had to check out the OG last week before it vanished.
  11. I think this past year's storms had a pretty significant impact on St. Pete Beach. It felt like damn near 50% of the resorts and restaurants on both sides of Gulf Blvd were closed and/or under construction. I still was not very impressed. The resorts, restaurants, bars and stores on Gulf were all pretty run down. The main strip was not very walkable. Narrow sidewalks inches from a busy 5 lane highway with people doing 50+. No beach walk on the beach side. I wasn't expecting a ton and with the time and budget I had to throw the trip together, it was as good as I could have done, it just didn't really measure up to some of the other places I've been. I can't really speak to Destin as I said we spent most/all of our time there in the resort. St. Petersburg itself surprised me in regards to how nice it was, but I wouldn't really call it a beach town, either.
  12. The 10/90 thing was a joke of course. You are due the Champ winnings which, as specified are $400, minus your $100 entry fee. And yes that would be $100 from Derka's buddy, $100 from Big Orange and $100 from Capn so send them your venmo and if you don't hear back in a timely fashion, like I said, let me know and I'll front your winnings and can wait to collect mine.
  13. No sir. See post quoted here from the fall. https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/27207-24-25-fantasy-league-seeking-additional-members/page/15/#comment-6977376
  14. IT and dutch have both Venmo'd me. Thanks guys. @mojo @Capn81 @BigOrange1 lmk where things stand. I prefer to make the Champ whole before myself so if those guys aren't checking the board I'll send $200 your way and can wait for them to pay me later.

I'm not a Doctor but this doesn't sound great. I guess at least the dead person's ACL is still intact.
  16. Goddammit did Derka get banned again? Nevermind I messed up the tagging lol
  17. @Derka - you 'won' $300 ($200 for Reg Season champs and $100 for 3rd) so you are owed $200 since no one paid in up front. Can you get Timmy and Durdy or Greg to pay you $100 each and have the odd man out pay @mojo $100? @mojo - you won $400 for winning the Ship so you are owed $300. We will have Derka's odd man out friend pay you $100 and then @BigOrange1 and @Capn81 can you two please pay mojo? Mojo can you please PM these guys your venmo? Me - won $300 for Champ runner up. Owed $200. @ITHorn and @Dutchrudder can you please each pay me $100? PM me for my venmo. That should do it for the '24-'25 season. Please everyone remind everyone else in the fall about whether we want to bump the schedule up even more. Thanks all for a great season.
  18. Bumping so I can reference later for payments.
  19. Looks like a cool place.
  20. What are some of your favorite beach towns that you have been to or vacationed in? I was recently in St. Pete Beach and didn't think much of it compared to some other places I have been. I'm talking about cool towns, not just pretty beaches. I liked Siesta Key when we went in 2021. I enjoyed the Destin area but where we were was a zoo, and we stayed in a giant resort and didn't leave. I was only there for one morning but I loved Laguna Beach. I really like Captiva Island. Been to plenty of beaches on the Atlantic side of FL and while driving on the beach is cool, I don't know that I've been blown away by any 'beach towns'. Had a couple day stop in Savannah a few years back and thought Tybee Island was cool but didn't do anything there due to weather. What have you got?
  21. 1st 3 people to pay up will pay @mojo $100 (PM him) Next 2 people will pay @Derka $100 (PM him) Last 2 will pay me $100
  22. Bump for payout structure. Mojo agreed to chop the $700 10/90 via PMs.
  23. I concede. Not happening. I was holding out hope for a comeback. I'm not sure of any solutions. My injuries during the last period were just injuries. Teams don't really care about seeding and they sit guys with any borderline injuries. I'll be honest, even though this one isn't going to go my way I think it's kind of fun scrambling for scrubs to play down the stretch. It helps the owners who pay attention and are active.
  24. I completely agree. I'm not pro or anti LeBron in general terms (or McAfee for that matter). I saw he was getting ripped for some of the sound bites and I had some travel this morning so I watched the entire thing. I didn't think he said anything that was unreasonable in context. It made me like him more, in fact.
