San Antonio
You're absolutely right. Was totally mandatory. I never realized what a fixture I was there until the bartender said, "Where were you last Friday?" That's when I figured my Friday-Night-Regular status had already been established. Whether alone, with a girlfriend, or gathering a group of friends/coworkers, the Hofbrau on Friday was religion to me. On a mushroom-related front: I remember the two best places for fried mushrooms being right next to each other. Completely different style, though, but the ones at Maggie's were pretty damn good, too. Was my place for vetting dates back in the day. Couldn't take just any random skank to Hofbrau, ya know?

The very mention of Mama's Hofbrau pains me. What I wouldn't give to get crocked on a full yard of Fuller's ESB in the old location again.

Texas BBQ
For those of you that pass through East Texas, we got a new-ish joint cranking out some good stuff here in Lufkin. Boxcar BBQ on the south side of our downtown area. In addition to the traditional meats and plates, they're inventing some crazy sandwiches, experimenting with sides, and cranking out some decadent desserts. They also do pre-orders. Just a friendly PSA from the Piney Woods...

Southwest or every other airline in the history of the world?
I fail to see the problem here, other than the personal inconvenience. Book an airport hotel room, notify work (if needed), enjoy a good meal, chill out, and fly the next day. Shit happens when you fly around the world for business. Especially if there's only one flight out per day. Not like the Aussies can pull a plane out of their ass. And it seems like she voluntarily fucked herself over with the new trip home.

Dumbass Shit We See On Facebook
Most popular kid in school, got drunk in the High School parking lot, then proceeded to take his jacked-up truck and do donuts in the front lawn of the school, taking out several new trees that had been planted. Jumped out of his truck, pulled a pistol, and blew his brains out in front of everyone. Kinda fucked up the rest of the weekend.

What the fuck is wrong with you, Houston? Non-CR thread
It's practically mandatory attire at the Lufkin Walmart. And don't get me started about all the weddings that take place down by the Wrangler Jeans.

San Antonio Mexican Restaurants
You are right next door to Acenar, which is usually quite friendly. The food isn't bad, plus a nice view of the River. You are also in walking distance of Domingo and the Otro bar. Check out Domingo online and consider a reservation. When/if you're wandering the Riverwalk, pop in at Boudro's. Their food is great, but...at bare minimum...order a round of Prickly Pear Margs and get the table-side prepared Guacamole. Watch the world walk by. Just sayin. If you want SA old-school, however, you're gonna need to get in the car and go to: Blanco Cafe on 1720 Blanco. Taco House on San Pedro. Teka Molino on San Pedro. You should dig all of those.

"We Were So Poor" Sayings or Stories
My wife relates stories of her upbringing. How a family of 5 moved into the clergy apt of their local church for a while. Neighbors bringing grocery bags of food, etc. Her not being able to afford the heat bill when she was in medical school, etc. A few years ago, she wandered into the kitchen, then came back and asked, "Where's the tea bag I left on the counter?" "It cooled off, so I pitched it." "Well...I was gonna reuse it." "Jesus Christ, baby...you are a fucking successful doctor. I think that we will be financially solvent if you grab another tea bag." Gotta give her credit...she doesn't really spend...some things just stay with you, I guess.
