I don't disagree, but they shouldn't have any questions when they realize the popularity of College basketball has now peaked. The tournament is a separate entity, but the loyalty of the alumni will continue to decline for the regular season. Same for the NBA but for different reasons.
When college sports further detaches from the Universities the interest will follow. No minor sports leagues ever make it (I think the newest pro football league is also in trouble) because the interest is not there. College Sports (basically minor league) have a built in loyal fan base that drove ratings and huge TV contracts. Personally, I only watch TX and the tourney now when I grew up loving all college basketball and watching many teams etc to follow the great players and their development. This built in fan base is also a big reason that woman's college basketball has higher ratings than the WNBA, the college affiliation etc.
I'd still watch Texas sports even if it was pure amateurism with some scrubs (assuming competition does likewise)
