Herman didn't make very good hires across the board for whatever reason. More damning was that this was not addressed after year 1 or 2.

Ok how do the targetting rules work?
What Roach was supposed to do was not lower his head. He would probably not have been flagged if he did. It is just bad defense to lead with the top of your head for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is danger of injuring yourself. Actually injury to the tackler is why spearing was made illegal to begin with (c-spine or head injury). That is why for this version of "targeting" it doesn't matter what part of the offensive player you hit, nor does it matter if the offensive player is defenseless. That said, I do agree that potentially several OU defenders could have been flagged for targeting as well, but they weren't and those plays also did not seem to be reviewed. Really officiating is largely just shit these days regardless of conference, partly because refs probably expect replay to do all the heavy lifting.

Ok how do the targetting rules work?
This is basically what they used to call spearing.

Tom Herman is a 2nd place coach
I want championships now though.

Tom Herman is a 2nd place coach
The players are not particularly well coached. Special teams is pretty obvious. You can see defenders play with poor fundamentals repeatedly. Time to make offensive adjustments can be described as glacial.

Herman's Worst Performance?
How many yards were lost on boneheaded punt or kick receiving today?

Most of the SEC is outright crap
If we are reviewing... By season, not when played: 2003 - LSU because USC wasn't in the game 2006 - Florida, but using SEC logic this game is an Ohio State, Michigan rematch 2007 - LSU because WVU wasn't in the game. 2008 - Florida because Texas or USC wasn't in the game. 2009 - Alabama because Colt 2010 - Auburn. This is totally legitimate, mostly due to the genius of HC Chizik. Also Cam Newton wanted to go to Auburn for the academics. 2011 - Peak SEC 2012 - Alabama plays a patsy. Ohio State bowl ban because of tattoos, which were valued at > $120,000 (SEC limit per player). 2015 - Alabama. This one is legitimate. 2017 - Alabama. Four team single elimination is only semi-legitimate if you don't count results of the pseudo-early rounds in conference.

AP Top 25
This poll is bad and the voters should feel bad.

Let me be positive for a minute...
Positive... lost to a decent LSU team instead of woeful Maryland. I don't like this being positive business.

But sending blitzers from a quarter mile away is the basis of this defense.

Colin Kaepernick & NFL Reach Settlement
Hmmm. Do white nationalists ever use the flag of the Confederate States of America? I guess they use the one for the Army of Northern Virginia because they had a good win loss record, but they got their ass kicked in the playoffs by the Union.
