  1. Fickell was there even longer than that, and had the misfortune of getting to be the interim in 2011. Probably nearly anybody could field a defense better than what we have now though. As for Urbs, the defense trended upward from 2012 through 2016. I think the jump in 2014 had more to do with the returning starters on defense... like the whole DL of Spence, Bennett, Washington and Bosa. *shrug*.
  2. Maybe. I would suspect it was mostly due to Fickell though.
  3. Nobody needs a comparison, I thought I would be entertained with adjectives for the other units.
  4. *shrug* and yet Hand might be one of the best position coaches on the team, that is the best part. Your thread title still doesn't entirely follow from your criticisms. Or maybe it does, but you just need to clarify your suckitude scale with the descriptors for the defense and special teams. The whole team is undercoached, but this shouldn't be a surprise with the "dream team" staff Herman assembled after he was hired, and then retained.
  5. I don't either since he isn't very good at all. '05 defense was a result of Tomey and Robinson. Chizik's coaching prowess was on display recently when Baylor scored 1000 points against UNC in the Russell Bowl with 0 quarterbacks.
  6. deja vu all over again
  7. It's always amusing to compare Burton's grades with Coach V's.
  8. He was, I am talking about 2015 game. That is the one where Zeke said they should have given him the ball more.
  9. Remember that time Ohio State scored 14 points against Michigan State with JT Barrett, Zeke, and Braxton Miller? We needed to replicate that sort of "success."
  10. Shouldn't it be a red flag if a recruit wants to play for Orlando?
  11. It's a shame we couldn't stop a true freshman quarterback when it mattered.
  12. We got to see what a well coached defense and well coached DBs look like.
  13. Who would have guessed that coaching matters?
  14. I would guess Bob Stoops has to be one of them.
  15. How many coaches can Herman realistically turn over this off season?
  16. Great, now he will have them blitz from 15 yards off the line of scrimmage.
  17. Yeah, offense didn't score 8 points on every possession, that means it sucks. They would need to add digits to the scoreboard.
  18. ^They have to calculate a double integral to figure out which assignment they have for each play.
  19. Herman didn't make very good hires across the board for whatever reason. More damning was that this was not addressed after year 1 or 2.
  20. What Roach was supposed to do was not lower his head. He would probably not have been flagged if he did. It is just bad defense to lead with the top of your head for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is danger of injuring yourself. Actually injury to the tackler is why spearing was made illegal to begin with (c-spine or head injury). That is why for this version of "targeting" it doesn't matter what part of the offensive player you hit, nor does it matter if the offensive player is defenseless. That said, I do agree that potentially several OU defenders could have been flagged for targeting as well, but they weren't and those plays also did not seem to be reviewed. Really officiating is largely just shit these days regardless of conference, partly because refs probably expect replay to do all the heavy lifting.
  21. This is basically what they used to call spearing.
  22. I want championships now though.
  23. The players are not particularly well coached. Special teams is pretty obvious. You can see defenders play with poor fundamentals repeatedly. Time to make offensive adjustments can be described as glacial.
  24. How many yards were lost on boneheaded punt or kick receiving today?
