  2. Bravo to Atomheartbevo for pulling off a masterful thread about the rapper that kinda sorta looks like that actor Donald Glover.
  3. Figure this place is as good as any to post it. @Pancho Curious what your thoughts are about this professor's finding from his book about the differences in black churches: https://www.texasstandard.org/stories/the-contemporary-black-church-book-african-american-religious-affiliation-presidential-election-shelton/
  4. Rupar has this weird tendency to post some WTF commentary
  5. So I'm Chinese, but my parents spent quiet some time living in Austria where they learned to love and cook a lot of German/Austrian cuisine. So when we immigrated to Houston for the early part of my life all I knew was German potato salad. I still remembered being shocked going way to summer camp in central Texas and for the first time seeing... mayonnaise in potato salad.
  6. Score another one for junk science.
  7. Will be interesting to see how that turns out. Heard this from the Texas Take podcast but they made a comment about how the TX GQP's redwall of rural counties haven't seen the increase in population and voter registrations like you have in the urban/suburbs since the last election.
  8. He has a limited vocabulary of sports cliches to draw from at this point.

  17. I feel bad at this point for the employees especially if Musk keep taking them down this path. Both my friends that worked there have left for other EV companies. Whatever good memories they had of him and working there are long gone.

    X-ODUS Day

I get the sentiment and agree most of the time with say doomscrolling the news but must be nice at this moment in time to be this laissez-faire about what's going on. Apologies of course if that's a gross assumption on my part.
  20. I hope he moves out of his comfort zone and hits up Harris and Bexar county as well.
  21. I totally understand that college isn’t for everyone, but there still needs to be some amount of history/literature type courses to foster critical thinking for people who go through the trade school route.
  22. Oh good… I don’t have to hoard fruit from HEB now. Whew.
  23. Seriously reconstruction 2.0 can't come soon enough.
  24. I heard Dean Stevens give a talk at an event earlier this year and came away really impressed, this is really dissapointing news. I don't know what kind of threats or pressure Hartzell is under from Abbott but it doesn't seem like he has much of a backbone either.
  25. University of Texas President Jay Hartzell will not allow the dean of the College of Liberal Arts to pursue a second term in the leadership post, according to an email obtained by the American-Statesman. In a Wednesday afternoon email, Dean Ann Stevens told college leaders that Hartzell told her "I did not have a grand enough vision for the college," which she disputed. "While I disagree with that assessment, it is clear that he and I have different values and different goals for the college," she told Liberal Arts leaders. The College of Liberal Arts has nearly 800 faculty members and serves about a fifth of UT's almost 54,000 students. Stevens' term will expire August 2025. She told her colleagues that she does not know what the next steps are for the college and that she was honored to serve with them. "With your help, we have made enormous progress in COLA: building academic excellence; improving research support and infrastructure; investing in student funding, research, and career support; and supporting a culture of respect and care for staff, faculty and students," Stevens said in the email. "You should have no doubt that COLA is in a very good place today." The dean's news comes after multiple high-level leadership changes at UT in the past several weeks, including sudden resignations from UT's police chief and the university's provost. UT's vice president for research leadership resigned effective in August 2025, and a new vice president for marketing and communications started in September after a department restructuring in which 20 people were laid off. Stevens could not be reached for comment immediately, and the College of Liberal Arts' media representative directed the Statesman to UT spokesperson Mike Rosen, who declined to comment on the president's involvement in the dean's nonrenewal. Hartzell later emailed the college to say that Stevens will "conclude her tenure" and continue as a faculty member, and that the university will launch a national search for a new dean. In the email, he complimented Stevens' term and leadership and said she had a significant impact on the college. He did not mention Stevens' revelations that he wants a different vision for the college or that he told her she would not have a second term in the post.
