  1. Yankee fan in Texas can't quite grasp the difference between "a particular October in New York may be rainy", which is absolutely true, and his statement of "October in NYC is no joke ... Rainy & stuff", which is demonstrably untrue (relative to other months in NYC).
  2. Umm, not sure if you've been following the news lately but I'm not sure that a GDP comparison of Russia and Texas from 2019 is particularly accurate these days...
  3. What about dicks. Asking for ou.
  4. Agreed. But as a thought experiment, if there is a predominant religion that says "all shirts must be blue", then there is a chance that laws / regulations will be passed mandating blue shirts. As someone who likes to wear green shirts I have skin in the game. So it may be accurate to say that atheists / agnostics don't have skin in the game about whether scripture is true or not, but they certainly have skin in the game regarding whether scripture is perceived as true when it is a major cultural force. And given that skin the game, many atheists / agnostics have incentive to understand the scripture, if nothing else to try to influence how it is perceived. Bring this specifically to homosexuality, I believe your view that it is biblically wrong but you don't want to pass laws discriminating against homosexual behavior. I don't share your view, but I believe it. At the same time, while an agnostic, I do have skin in the game about scriptural beliefs / understandings because many Christians who have similar views on Christianity as you do want to discriminate against homosexual or other non-Christian behavior.
  5. Without wading into trying to convince anyone whether any given interpretation of scripture is correct or not (they ain't gonna happen in this thread) I think the bolded statement is not correct. Atheists and agnostics do have skin in the game simply because Christianity has an immense amount of influence on culture and government at all levels. Not even arguing whether that is a good thing or a bad thing, but surely you agree that any given interpretation does impact us all (at least in this earthly life, if not afterlife)?
  6. Any update on this? Otherwise this is a pretty neg-worthy troll when people are trying to mainline on pure aggy heroin but get the fentanyl.
  7. Brent Venables thinks we need more crypto and sports betting commercials.
  8. To be fair, there should be a "he needed killing" clause for Trump in particular. Not literally, and only I should be the decider on when the clause is brought to bear, but I think it would improve the justice system a whole helluva lot.
  9. got damnt, take it to the cheating chess butt plug thread.
  10. There is absolutely zero chance that cat didn't immediately turn around and try to go down the up escalator.
  11. Generally I agree - here the point was not to make a partisan one, rather to point out the economic bona fides of said poster. That said, neg away.
  12. Reading hot economic takes from someone who claimed in November of 2020 that "Our economy has been basically back to pre Covid" will never not make me laugh.
  13. They are Texans as Cruz is Abbot as Paxton is Patrick and we are all together fucked. Goo goo g'joob
  14. Imagine living in a state full of fattys, poes, iconos, treys, grus, and aggy (but I repeat myself) and thinking it's the Texas Democratic Party that's the problem.
  15. Yeah but this was classy.
  16. Beastmaster needs to be mentioned. Seeing a young nubile Tanya Roberts kickstarted some changes in me. Maybe watch that with him and then give him some alone time.
  17. @BabaYaga has a handful of such sites bookmarked and ready to drop. Send him a PM.
  18. I guess the feel good story of MLB is the Mariners making the playoffs finally but it's not exactly like they are setting the world on fire, and are only making the playoffs with expanded field. The Mets can't be a feel good story because Fuck 'em, that's why.
  19. I don't twitter other than what gets put on Surly so I don't know this dudes background but I think his language is really loaded. Calling the US "buckling under" to nuclear threat from Russia is bullshit. Also we don't have to "compensate" for shit if we don't send ATACMS. I certainly support all the aid we've given to Ukraine and look forward to us giving more. But we shouldn't / aren't letting others dictate to us what that aid is.
