  1. We, the purportedly Christian, have used religion to justify slavery, domestic violence, and war. From interpersonal relationships to international ones, it has been perverted to advance a political agenda of hate It also was the basis of the emancipation and I suspect that it had a part in our more admirable efforts. Sgt. York was a pacifist and then a soldier. There's another guy that I don't know if was Baptist or Methodist or Catholic or what, but when they wanted him to point out the Jewish soldiers he said, "We're all Jewish." There's anecdotal evidence like this throughout history in every religion. It's not inherently bad or good. It's not new either. It's just where we live today and the battle we have at hand. I'm glad someone besides me brought up C.S. Lewis.
  2. That's what I meant in the predawn reply. I mentioned a couple of books this morning, but there are so many. I know from reading along in the AA thread that it's a very real hurdle for some people to find a way to relate to a 'higher power' and to surrender to the idea that we aren't in control. I remember someone saying that they recognized their higher power in the river. It could be a whole lotta different things in the natural world that we can't fully comprehend much less control. Whatever gets you there. I know the Christian religion has a sordid and troubling history. It currently has massive damning issues. It's not limited to one denomination or branch. I quit the Baptists because I was tired of hearing about hating the gay, Demoncrats, and wild ass bullshit masquerading as end times theology. But, I had a continuing desire to experience the divine in some way. I still wanted to help my fellow human beings find the basic necessities of existence. I wanted to 'know' why are we here and what the fuck am I supposed to do with this time on this plane of experience? I'd ask anyone. Mr.Lao Tzu, Siddhartha Gautama, Zoroaster, and the old woman down the road. I don't care. I want to know what you think and why. Maybe I'll learn something. Maybe that dancing Sikh fellow up in the Yukon knows something about life and existence that I can learn from. Are they feeding hungry people, housing the homeless, visiting widows and orphans in their need? Here, have money. I don't give a shit what you call yourself. I'll be glad to help if you let me. Diocletian wasn't the only one that killed people for their beliefs. Hindus killing Muslims, Muslims killing Christians, Confucians buried up to their neck to get beheaded. Japanese martyrs at Nagasaki. Haters gonna hate. I'm going to do my level best to show some compassion and empathy to my fellow human beings no matter who they are. And I don't give a shit what someone else says I'm doing wrong. They damn sure don't listen to me or anyone else when we point out the moral hypocrisy so I just don't fucking care anymore if they get upset that I have trans or gay friends. Ok, I'm done. I probably should have quit ten minutes ago.
  3. In. I don't have time to read everything but I too am on a spiritual journey. I believe we have a body but are a soul. The Atman in search of the Brahman if you want to use those terms. A little piece of light trying to find a way to the rest of the collective soul. I have two books over there in reach, one is by a Jewish fella and another is a Jesuit. I was brought up as a Baptist and graduated from a Cistercian school. One of my best friends told me one day he loves Krishna more than anyone else. We had a brass quintet yesterday at church. It was great. Had a sprinkle baptism of a little baby girl. I managed to keep my shit together until he started talking about his sister fighting off cancer and only reading stories that she knew the ending to. I have more thoughts and no time to tell them.
  4. The red flag for me is how she reacted to him sharing his feelings. If she is turned off by him showing some vulnerability there's no amount of hormones that's going to fix it.
  5. My unwillingness to let their shit slide is why they don't talk politics around me. Say stupid fucked up shit and I am going to say something and it might get loud.
  6. A pile of negs?
  7. You need to get to therapy and that right quick. I don't care if you have to roll through half a dozen sets of ears before you find one that will listen. She has already punched out. I know they tell us we're supposed to show our vulnerability and share our feelings with our significant other but it doesn't always work out well. It sucks but that's how it is sometimes.
  8. Jesus was a Capricorn, he ate organic food He believed in love and peace and never wore no shoes Long hair, beard and sandals and a funky bunch of friends Reckon they'd just nail him up, if he came down again
  9. I'd put it more on the agent than the player. I think 6 weeks in Carolina was enough for him to take charge of his own affairs and make sure he got the hell out of there. Edit: it should be noted that Andy Scott is the agent for both Draisaitl and Rantanen. Also Wyatt Johnston who was signed immediately after Rantanen. All those rumors that were being fed to Elliot I'd be willing to bet my bottom dollar came straight from Andy Scott because Nill ain't gonna say shit.
  10. I'm not used to seeing penalties getting called in the playoffs. Let's see if they keep doing it in the 3rd.
  11. If you had David Brooks quoting Marx as a longshot that ticket can be cashed out now.
  12. Metcalf's dad is calling out that bunch of white losers.
  13. There's a reason why they are recommending this in the EU when traveling here. Burner laptop and burner phone. Keep it boring.
  14. Because that's going to cost money and nobody is going to spend one dime more than necessary on convicts. Empathy is for losers. Visited me in prison? That's what Jesus said to do? Yeah, you read that wrong. He said fuck'em and throw them in the hole.
  15. I have been a little busy on this Good Friday. In a concise way can you tell me why you're ok with the recent activity of ICE?
  16. A student who witnessed the gunman approach campus and begin opening fire said the shooter pulled up to campus in an orange Hummer and got out holding a rifle and shooting in her direction. “I think he was shooting and he missed. So he goes back into his car and grabs a pistol, then he turns and shoots the lady in front of him. That’s when I just started running," McKenzie Heeter, a junior at FSU, told NBC News. Heeter described the shooter as a “normal college dude.” Reid Seybold, a senior at FSU who was around the corner from the shooting when it unfolded, said he knew Ikner from a political discussion group at Tallahassee State College, where he spent the first two years of his education before he transferred to FSU. Seybold, the group's president, said Ikner was asked not to return to the group because of views that Seybold said aligned with white supremacy. “He espoused so much white supremacist rhetoric and far-right rhetoric, as well,” Seybold said. Since then, Seybold said, he has seen Ikner only a couple of times in passing. The current president of the same club, Riley Pusins, said that at meetings, the suspect advocated for President Donald Trump’s agenda and often promoted white supremacist values, even though the club was nonpartisan and was about debate and political discourse. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/fsu-shooter-suspect-phoenix-ikner-orange-hummer-what-know-edited-rcna201811 A review of court records show Phoenix Ikner had a tumultuous childhood, with another woman — identified in the documents as his biological mother — accused of removing him from the US in violation of a custody agreement when he was 10 years old. ____ Ikner is a registered Republican, according to Florida voter registration records. He was quoted in January in an FSU student newspaper article about anti-Trump protests in advance of the president’s inauguration. “These people are usually pretty entertaining, usually not for good reasons,” Ikner, who was described as a political science major, was quoted as saying. “I think it’s a little too late, he’s [Trump] already going to be inaugurated on Jan. 20 and there’s not really much you can do unless you outright revolt, and I don’t think anyone wants that.” The shooting suspect later changed his name from Christian Eriksen to Phoenix Ikner, a law enforcement source confirmed to CNN. According to an affidavit from a sheriff’s detective, the child’s biological mother told his father that she would take him to South Florida for spring break in March 2015. Instead, she “fled the country with him in violation of their custody agreement,” taking him to Norway, the affidavit said. https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/17/us/florida-state-university-shooting-phoenix-ikner-invs/index.html

  20. It's the only place I go. I've seen more movies in the last year than the previous five. Most of them were ones that they were running back out there from years ago. We went to go see 'The Last Picture Show' yesterday.
