  1. Not the greatest debut albums, but these both came out around the same time in 1986, and with all the over-processed, impersonal crap coming out at that time, it was like "whoa, this is... different, and real". Funny, ordered both of these from Columbia House, the Steve Earle for my wife, who was more into country (or at least 80's country) and the Georgia Satellites for me, and we wound up trading, I wore that Steve Earle tape out.
  2. In my top 10 all-time favorite bands. Bought everything they've ever done, I bought f-ing Door to Door, and the comeback CD a few years ago. Just like ELO, some hits, some filler, and some hidden gems.
  3. Don Geronimo?
  4. I live in Taylor and I've probably eaten at Louie Mueller 4-5 times, tops, in 25 years. Just too damn expensive. I can guarantee you walk in there on a weekend, 85% minimum of clientele is out of towners. Even on a weekday, probably over half are. I went to Vencil's two weeks, got a 3-meat plate for 10.79. Was it the best BBQ, no, but it was pretty damn good, I can get 3 of those for what one beef rib costs me at Louie's. Davis Market and Vencil's are fine with me. That's where you'll find the locals.
  5. 16, including 1 about 50 feet from our house.
  6. Don't forget Big Toe Warren Oates and El Guapo Alfonso Arau.
  7. William Holden. Nuff said. Now fuck off with this bullshit.
  8. Just saw this today on No Depression. I really like it. As they described it, Neil Diamond walking around an Ennio Morricone soundtrack, with some Orbison thrown in at the end.
  9. Definitely, also hear a little "Everybody's Talkin'" in there (to my ears anyway), and just the overall vibe/lyrics remind me a lot of Jimmy Webb, could fit right in with "Gentle on My Mind"... For sure got that late 60's/early 70's sound to it, which I really dig.

  12. Speaking of baseball... https://www.huffpost.com/entry/chicago-cubs-fan-white-power-symbol_n_5cd46992e4b0705e47d8a53e "A Chicago Cubs fan has been banned indefinitely from Wrigley Field after he was observed making an apparent “white power” gesture behind a black reporter during a live broadcast Tuesday."
  13. So maybe phd/Frankie or some other expert can enlighten me. Back in the early 90's, it seemed like all the cold fronts used to pretty much come straight down I-35 south, you'd get a lot of bowing, think the 97 storm that created the Jarrell/Cedar Park tornadoes. Now it seems like all these fronts come in from the Northwest, and the storms move East or Northeast. What changed? Or am I just imagining it?
  14. Definitely. This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen, I'd pay to see this in a heartbeat...
  15. Vince Vance & the Valiants, baby!
  16. 620 on Spectrum austin Wife asks, how many times have you seen this movie? How many times have you had a margarita? (tone)
  17. Yeah, age and insanity will do that...
  18. I'm convinced John Sayles ran into Karen 20 years ago and based Frances McDormand's character in "Lone Star" on her...
  19. Wow, haven't heard that name in a long time, good stuff. Reminds me of another hottie from that era, Rachel Sweet. Damn.
  20. Another home-grown one, this one is really good:
  21. Yeah. Don't know these guys from Adam, but just happy to have another bbq joint here in town. Especially with those hours, will be curious to see what the quality is like at 7pm when I'm rolling into town from work, but I'll give it a shot. Just ain't got the pocket book for Louie Mueller's, I'm a Vencil Mares man myself.
