  1. I mean, FFS, we’re probably a week away from bombing Chuck E Cheese.
  2. And maybe…just maybe…the economy is about more than betting right on the stock market. A guy can make a lotta money betting on destruction….which is still destruction. Celebrating a plague because you invested in coffin futures is certainly an approach.
  3. Says the man who thinks that an economic approach that has the world - not just China, the whole fucking world and everyone in it - dumping 1) our assets, 2) our debt, and 3) our currency….is 10-D chess. I’m perfectly good with where you and I stand relative to each other. And yes, I know what your point re the DJIA was…which was also a deflection from the fact that the market as a whole, not just the DJIA, has been taking a massive dump with no sign of arresting the trend. I’m going to nod my head largely in agreement with what the guys at JPM are observing, not a self-styled brain genius on surly who thinks the exact opposite.
  4. Recessions sure as shit hit people with no 401k. The world is 1) fleeing US investments, 2) fleeing US treasuries, and 3) fleeing and weakening the dollar. JPM is up to a 90% likelihood of a recession coming right soon. But see, none of them understand the DJIA and smart trade policy like Ana does. The genius outcome is headed our way any minute now. Annnnnnnnny minute now…..
  5. That look when you cackled as you made a triple-decker shit sandwich….then realized you’re gonna have to eat the whole thing.
  6. ^^^^ These are the EXACT same people who shrieked incessantly (without basis, mind you) that the Obama admin “IS GONNA CREATE A NATIONAL ID CARD! THE GUBMINT WILL KNOW ALL YOUR INFO! IT’S THA MARK OF THE BEAST!” Exhibit infinity about how they never, ever had a problem with an expansive, all-knowing, all ruling federal government. They just wanted it done by THEIR guy. Oh, and the reason that we don’t want every agency sharing all data about everyone is because no, they don’t need it all. And as for me, I actually DO believe the government’s access to and use of our personal data shouldn’t be more expansive than it needs to be. Amazingly, it turns out I am and always was more libertarian than all the folks who claimed to be libertarian when Obama was around, but now can’t gobble enough authoritarian cock.
  7. Yep. Translation: I thought he’d engage in targeted insane fuckery against people OTHER than me and my interests, and I was super-ok with that. Which means you’re a shitty person.
  8. You skipped over WHY there are whole subreddits dedicated to that.....because people without that info DON'T KNOW. In fact, like most cases of basic ignorance, they don't even know what they don't know. I've perused some of those subreddits, and find it objectively fascinating; someone is genuinely learning and having their eyes opened when people explain that if you buy whole chickens/chicken parts and roast them in the oven yourself, that both 1) saves money and 2) is much healthier than buying the frozen bag full of processed chicken. But also realize that for every person who stumbles onto that subreddit and asks a question, there are 100 who don't. Knowledge is a resource. Time is a resource. Money is a resource. For those who don't have much of any of those, and have never been shown how to manage what they DO have of those resources....fuck, man. They are in for a world of hurt. When you realize that better than 90% of America has less knowledge and money than 99% of the posters on this board, it's humbling shit. For a lot of America, "choose not to be fat" is as pointless a berating as "choose not to be poor." They don't have the first fucking clue how to do anything BUT that.
  9. 1) the Japanese have NO credibility pushing back on anyone's kink 2) yeah, overcooking steaks should be deemed an act of war, so there's that.
  10. This. Never get involved in a "to the pain!" dispute with an opponent who has this guy's pain tolerance: And no worries....if it gets too painful for them and there's some unrest, they can run the one-two punch of 1) Tiananmen square their asses, and 2) start a distracting war with a neighbor, maybe Taiwan.
  11. FIF accuracy. Because I know of a full spectrum of developer types. The ones that have been around forever, who thrive when times are good, and manage to survive when times are bad (because dudes, that market be cyclical) generally treat their contractors alright. Because maybe on THIS deal, the project ended up being one where the contractor took it in the shorts.....which is okay, and he won't end up in litigation or a major dispute with the developer, because he knows that on the next deal, he'll be treated fairly, and will have a chance to make a decent profit. Repeat dealings mean stability, reliability, and risk avoidance. There are shitty developers who are combative with everyone, and try to fuck over everyone. Those developers don't seem to last very long.
  12. Did we know each other growing up? I recall us stopping to buy shrimp right by there.
  13. Our national motto -- or at least of a sizable portion of our nation now -- is "emboldened assholery." All brakes/checks are OFF. These folks are now free to be as huge an asshole as they ever dreamed of being.
  14. And man, a Gulf coast variation of that....I presume that every family living along the coast in the 70s-80s had a "shrimp guy," right? And by that, I mean a dude who would park a van, with a couple of large coolers, at a particular spot on the road -- usually a state highway or FM road -- put out a handpainted plywood sign that said "Shrimp $4 lb" or something like that. And your dad somehow knew when he would be there, and y'all would swing by and pick up 5 lbs or so for all your shrimp consumption purposes. This was a totally normal and legit way to buy shrimp....in fact, buying shrimp at a store was for elitist yankee bastards or somesuch, I think.
  15. Just a well-oiled machine, functioning as intended, making sure we are not invaded by.....Canadian hikers, who own property and vehicles in Canada and are no threat to try to illegally emigrate to the US:
  16. "By predicting event X -- before it even begins." Yes, I mean....that IS how predictions work. Now personally, my preferred practice is to predict things after they've already happened. For example, I predict that Texas will sweep Auburn in baseball last weekend. I also predict that Pope Francis will die right after Easter. PRO: my accuracy rate is 100%. CON: the timing of my predictions doesn't leave a lot of room for people to act on them. Oh well, everything has a downside.
  17. To your proposal, I say "soitanly!"
  18. Dibs on being "Pope Moe I":
  19. If I pay $3,500 for that room, it better be the "Monica Belluci included" package. I mean.....is that package available? Because I've got a browser window open, I could book a room pretty quickly.
  20. Trappey's on your greens, and an extra splash or two on the accompanying cornbread, is winning.
  21. Oh....you think that they observe those rules when they don't want to. How....quaint. If you don't think there's been some serious headboard-banging at the Papal Apartments, you haven't been paying attention.
  22. As I was catholic educated, I think it only right for me to toss my hat into the ring. I look alright in funny hats, I suspect I'd like Italy, and my platform of turning "the body of Christ" into "the delicious, tender smoked body of Christ" by changing the eucharist to brisket samples instead of those nasty little bread cracker disc things, should be a winner.
  23. So. Much. This. We can have much debate about whether the strategy vis-a-vis China is the right one, but most folks would agree that China is a trade adversary that requires additional management. But to kick off a fight with them....while telling literally every single one of your allies (and your enemies....fucking EVERYONE) "fuck off, you're my enemy too!" is the dumbest fucking shit imaginable. Like, "invading Russia before locking down western Europe, the UK, and the US by Hitler" dumb. And also....a fucking immediate-term firebombing strategy to resolve issues that took decades to build up, and will take lots of time to disentangle? Yeah, that's fucking dumb too. But it's extra-mega-super-dumb when you decide to stand alone and make yourself the enemy of literally the entire fucking world.
