  1. Jesus Christ just throw the Fucking thing in the dumpster already.
  2. Remember when 60 minutes ran a story about the Selma-Schertz speed trap on 35. I think the feds basically shut it down by saying that local municipalities couldn’t write tickets on interstate highway. Texas Monthly has a story on it too called “The Perfect Speed Trap” if you want to read more about it.
  3. I bought a 2020 Ram 1500 Lonestar for around 8% under MSRP this week, so I think the market might be loosening up a little. Only got $3k for a 2005 F150 XLT which I probably could of gotten $5k for privately, so who knows. I put about $10 k down a took advantage of 0% financing on a 4 year note. Seemed like a square deal — all things considered. One thing I do know is that I’m enjoying all that new technology that’s in my new truck over that 2005.
  4. The company that did it was Texas Premier Coat You can see the process at their website: Www.texaspremiercoat.com They were awesome to deal with and delivered more than they promised. I had a couple of lower bids but they were for a single color with no pattern. The guy that did the actual work was an artist and worked his ass off to deliver the best end product. Owner: Brett Installer: Junior.
  5. I’ve been considering buying a used truck but the pricing is so ridiculous that now I’m considering buying new. I found a dealer in Austin that is selling Ram 1500s 10% below MSRP. That seems to be about the best out there now. Does this sound reasonable or should I continue to wait? I’m driving a 2005 F150 now so trade in value isn’t really part of the equation. They offered me about $4500 on that.
  6. We hired Power Home Remodeling. I have no idea regarding code compliance issues. Power downplayed it when I asked (our house was built in the mid-70’s). I’m concerned but it’s out of my control so full steam ahead.
  7. I’m replacing our windows - no changes in size, number, or location. Contractor pulling COA permit and said City will do a final inspection including fire inspection checking smoke alarm compliance or some such bullshit.
  8. I asked upthread if anyone had any luck resurfacing their pool deck. We just had ours completed and for $10k it was transformed from 1980 to 2021. Here are the before and after pictures.
  9. I read something recently about the world running out of Sand because of demand for concrete. But it’s not like wood grows on trees either.
  10. I’ve had this happen. I kneeled on concrete and sort of felt the flesh at my kneecap ‘swish’ a little. For several months it hurt like a skinned elbow or knee would hurt like road rash. Except that there wasn’t any visible damage to the skin. Just rubbing the skin on sheets or washing it in the shower hurt like hell. It went away after 3 or 4 months.
  11. I work on the GC side and all I know for sure is than any and all material and manpower issues are being blamed on COVID/supply chain. No show sub? Crew got the COVID. No concrete? Driver shortage due to the Covid. No light fixtures? The circuits got the covids. Schedules are all borked. Owners being tolerant.
  12. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/7221-Crestone-Rd-Austin-TX-78744/120901595_zpid/ Posted w/ no consideration for schools. I have no idea.
  13. If he's working near ABIA then I might see what's available in Bastrop.
  14. Off screen: boyfriend shoots woman while she’s on a zoom call. Boyfriend hands toddler gun and shoves toddler into camera frame. Boyfriend exits stage left. And wrap.
  15. Anyone in Central Texas get their pool deck and patio resurfaced with a coolcoat or cool deck coating? Our pool was built about 20 years ago and the deck has a dated and painful exposed pebble aggregate finish. Looking for advice and recommendations. Thanks.
  16. Here is the diorama mentioned above. It's a really good Texas history museum if you happen to be in Galveston looking for something to do.
  17. The Bryan Museum in Galveston has a great hand-crafted diorama with 2000 soldiers depicting the Battle of San Jacinto. The museum sells these figures in the gift shop and I invested in three dead Mexicans. Or two dead and one resting Mexican. Or three drunk Mexicans. I don't really know what I bought but the sales lady was a little distressed that this is what I chose to buy instead of a lovely Sam Houston or ROT infantrymen.
  18. I grew up in Auburn. Lived there about 12 years. I haven't been back since 2004 so I don't have much to offer except that the game day experience is pretty cool.
  19. The way I understand it, it has something to do with a Texas law regarding operator’s being unable to evict elderly from their care based on inability to pay. So in effect the deposit will be used for payment in the case the ‘renter’ becomes unable to pay.
  20. My parents live in one of these facilities. It's a competitor to Longhorn. They have the same deal - initial $800k deposit, 90% refund, and a monthly rent. They really like it. A big concern, as mentioned above, is solvency/bankruptcy of the parent company. The facility is 5 star and the food is great. It's a lot like resort living. They do raise the "rent" every year by 1-2% for "inflation". Dad is paying the monthly rents through a military pension, university pension, and social security. So when he passes my mother will paying her part with true retirement savings. Dad's joke is that if he is on life support, don't unplug him because he's paying the bills as long as he is alive. At first I thought he was joking but I realize now he's right. The $800k is nothing more than a security deposit in case the payer runs out of money for the monthly bill and they will take the rent from that.
