  1. They charge cost of packaging direct to consumer (as added cost at point of sale), which is refundable through recycling. Easy for US to do this. Its also done at public events where you pay for plastic beer cups and return them at the end. Same for charging for cost of grocery bags. And requiring a coin to unlock a grocery cart. Ridiculously easy solutions to encourage specific behaviors. ** People need to stop generalizing garbage and recycling handling based on a single expose’. How its handled is a local/municipal issue. Ive been to the facilities near my residences and seen what they do with them. Its different everywhere. Mine takes in organic waste, composts it, and gives back bags of soils for free. Its quite nice.
  2. EVs powered exclusively by hydrocarbon-sourced electricity is still cleaner than combustion vehicles. (Emission / distance traveled). Net emission is *inclusive* of the differences in manufacturing. I.e. it is a total lifecycle / full chain calculation. Batteries in EVs are highly recycleable and can serve a life beyond powering a car. (just see how much salvaged batteries from old cars sell for…) Battery chemistries are varied, and production cars are using battery mostly or fully free of controversial minerals like cobalt. Mining and extracting anything is not clean. Lithium extraction is not green…but compared to extracting crude oil? which is perpetually required to combust a motors? Yall arent the first, second, or 1,000th person to have thought about these issues. Plenty of literature in academic domain, or how about referenced here, by DoE, IEA, etc… https://afdc.energy.gov/vehicles/electric_emissions.html https://www.iea.org/data-and-statistics/charts/comparative-life-cycle-greenhouse-gas-emissions-of-a-mid-size-bev-and-ice-vehicle
  3. The whole banksy fad is so cringe. At first its mildly interesting like “oh some clever ‘subversive’ street art, neat”. And then it just became a huge gimmick. Oooh nobody knows who he is. Oooh he destroyed his painting before people could buy it. Insert gigantic eye-roll and jerk-off gif here.

    2024 NFL DRAFT

MHJ is 6’3”, tough in physical contests, has great work ethics, and void of the ego plaguing most of the other talented WRs. Dude is like a mediumtron.
  6. Son of a bitch, it worked. Chop looked comical on the tiny grill, which alone was sufficient for putting on a crust. Took it outside in case of major flareups. 35 minutes or so and it was done, arguably even more cooked than how they serve here which looks very crimson.
  7. Challenge. Im in a gigantic historic apartment in cordoba with wraparound balcony…but no grill, an afterthought of a kitchen with no oven, a pan too small for an omelet, and just this dinky resistive electric “grill”. And have a massive veal rib chop (chuleton ternera). Think ill do low temp for hours on the “grill”, and then try repeated flips on the pan for a crust. Also…no thermometer.
  8. You know how you buy formal shirts and pants and they always attach spare buttons to them…for the first time in my life im ever actually using them

    Shogun

When I was little, my father was famous. He was the greatest Samurai in the empire, and he was the Shogun's decapitator. He cut off the heads of 131 lords for the Shogun. It was a bad time for the empire. The Shogun just stayed inside his castle and he never came out. People said his brain was infected by devils, and that he was rotting with evil. The Shogun said the people were not loyal. He said he had a lot of enemies, but he killed more people than that. It was a bad time. Everybody living in fear, but still we were happy. My father would come home to mother, and when he had seen her, he would forget about the killings. He wasn't scared of the Shogun, but the Shogun was scared of him. Maybe that was the problem. At night, mother would sing for us, while father would go into his temple and pray for peace. He'd pray for things to get better. Then, one night the Shogun sent his ninja spies to our house. They were supposed to kill my father, but they didn't. That was the night everything changed, forever.

  14. I'm no Mormon expert or historian, but like Christianity, they have different denominations varying in their beliefs and practices over time relating to race segregation. They have black members today. In the way I won't blankly label Catholics/Baptists/Anglicans/whatever as "having racist as shit beliefs", doesn't seem apt to describe them that way in 2023. BTW, in that same decade that blacks were allowed Mormon priesthood, some of the most elite (&"liberal") universities in America enrolled women for the first time. (Yale,Dartmouth,Duke,UVA etc..). That timeline and that binary fact... means today those institutions are sexist as shit?
  15. If we're judging practitioners today based on the belief of religious leaders alive during the the US Civil War, what was the state of the other competing churchs back then wrt to slavery and black rights?
  16. Did she have anything to substantiate that belief? Far as I know, their main creed is about promoting family, and a milquetoast aversion to vices, but nothing fundamentally ego-centric that associates to racism. No "we are the chosen people" type of dictum. Perhaps they're just strongly misunderstood. This is sorta funny, they're the *least-liked* group in America (even below Muslims).... even though they themselves like other people, by far more than anyone else. from Pew's survey of 10,000+ people. fwiw, those mormons i know include highly-pigmented ones, and those in mixed marriage.
