  1. They’re aggy. They live in Katy.
  2. Just a tip...an HEB produce guy told me to only buy the hydroponic strawberries because they'll generally last much longer in the fridge. He said if regular field grown strawberries get a lot of rain, their water content would be too high and they will spoil quickly. If you eat them within 2-3 days, it don't make a shit.
  3. My uncle gave me a party school ranking from a Playboy in the mid 80s. Could’ve been another porn magazine I guess. It was a card stock pullout. Each school had a couple of cartoons to go with it. I only remember two things from it. Texas was number one with the most popular place to have public sex was any bush on campus and Colorado was #2 with cocaine beating out snow as the most popular powder on campus.
  4. Would putting the land in a trust at least make the scam much more difficult to pull off?
  5. For my main few tools, I have DeWalt. For the one off tools I’ve needed in multiple remodeling projects I have Ryobi. I probably have 30+ of these tools. For the occasional use this set of tools get, it’s hard to justify spending 3x for DeWalt.
  6. More likely is that not everybody can cook worth a shit. Doesn’t matter if you grew up Cajun or not.
  7. My kids got me an Xbox Series X. My wife got me a pair of Blundstone boots. That’s all I got.
  8. As dark as you want to go. You just keep cooking it. The benefit is there’s no risk of burning it and you only need to stir it every 20 minutes or so.
  9. Had to make an H‑E‑B run at 3pm today. I was shocked that there was more parking today than on a normal weekday. There were dozens of same day curbside slots available also. Thanks Obama.
  10. Remind the missus that Aunt Flo is only visiting one of three holes.
  11. Always parboil and dry your diced potatoes before you fry them. They cook up crispier and faster if you do that step. A pro move is to put a pinch of baking soda in the water. It’ll create cracks and crevasses in the potato exterior and the potatoes will have an even crispier exterior with an airy interior.
  12. This is the only way I make a roux. It’s foolproof and perfect for us lazy people. I start it on a burner in my Dutch oven and move it to the oven once it has a light color. It only takes about 45-60 minutes with that 5 minute head start.
  13. We had Xmas with my parents yesterday. My mom has a cousin that has lived in Switzerland forever. He’s never really worked since he left the US in the 80s. He’s 65 and has a 30-something Russian wife. His dad casually mentioned that he’d finally gotten rid of his US citizenship and he splits time between Zurich and Moscow. For the first time ever, I heard he left the US because of undisclosed legal issues and to avoid the IRS. I now picture this cousin as:
  14. Holy shit, the bad guy finally shows up at the very end and he looks just like Norm McDonald.
  15. I’m in the last 15 minutes of this piece of shit. Nothing happens in this movie. I know it’s just setting stuff up for the next one but it’s scene after scene of “join us and fight” speeches with poorly executed fight scenes in between. It reminds me of those old 80s low budget sci fi/fantasy films you’d watch as a kid for tits and bush but with this one, you get all the bad acting and cheese with no tits and bush. Skip it unless you like being bored.
  16. Before COVID, I was short a few hundred points, so I took a 6:30AM flight from Austin to Houston, got off the plane and was able to immediately jump on a return flight to Austin that was boarding. I was in the office before 8AM. Which was earlier than I would normally get there.
  17. Is this common or just at a specific school?
  18. I know it's hard to imagine that neighborhoods go through a lifecycle where the residents go from: DINKs > DIWKs > Empty Nesters > Dead > new DINKS...and so on. It happens in all neighborhoods. School districts need to not freak the fuck out when enrollment at specific schools decline, it will come back in 15-20 years. Brentwood Elementary is a good example. In the 2000s, it was on the chopping block for low enrollment. It was so overcapacity by 2015, that it had to be prioritized for reconstruction at twice its old capacity.
  19. I have a cheap one for outdoor movies. I think I paid $120 for it like 4 years ago. Works perfectly fine. I just plug in a Roku stick directly into the HDMI port and stream whatever. I bought a $50 soundbar for audio. At the price point, it was a great purchase. I don't even have to give a shit about it. Just toss it on the shelf in the workshop between uses. If it dies, it dies.
  20. Here are my picks for 2023: Jenny Lewis - Joy'All: I think Lewis is one of the best American songwriters working today. This is just a fantastic album from start to finish with just enough sadness to make the happiness bearable. Young Fathers - Heavy Heavy: I don't even know how to categorize Young Fathers. I'd only known them from a one off collaboration with Massive Attack years ago. Initially, it's a difficult listen but I find myself coming back to this album often. Night Drive - Position II: One of the best local bands no one has heard of. If you think you'd like a modern take on 80s new wave, check it out. Model/Actriz - Dogsbody: Probably the best modern industrial band working today. They're really breathing fresh air into the genre. Kruder Di Gioia - "_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ": Collaboration between Peter Kruder of Kruder & Dorfmeister and jazz pianist Roberto Di Gioia. If you want a chill soundtrack to get high to, this is for you. Bully - Lucky For You: 90s grunge for Millenials. It's good stuff. I'm glad there's some guitar rock out there doing well. Cherry Glazerr - I Don't Want You Anymore: Zoomer garage rock that's actually good. Solid album. Royal Blood - Back to the Water Below: The best rock band that has never quite had the level of success they deserve. Just banger after banger. Lead Into Gold - The Eternal Present: If Model/Actriz is modern industrial, this is a throwback to the 90s by ex-Ministry bassist, Paul Barker. The Black Delta Movement - Recovery Effects: A really good psychedelic band with surf guitar and 60s flower child leanings. If you like Brian Jones Town Massacre, you'll dig this
  21. Yep. Majors sacrificed himself to give Marvel an easy way out of the multiverse quagmire they created. Doom poofs Kang and the multiverse out of existence. Problem solved. Now do a soft reboot of the Marvel universe.
  22. This reminds me of Longhorn Ashtin Zamzow who won the heptathlon national title a few years ago. Both her parents were All American track athletes at aggy. They forced her, against her will, to go to aggy. Against their will, she transferred to Texas as a sophomore. Her parents didn’t speak to her for over a year. When they came to support her at meets, they of course wore their aggy gear.
