Yeah, I paid the full $49 plus fees for Friday. Then saw them much cheaper on resale sites. Live and learn.

Actually happy not to be going to the full race. It's fun, but this year seems like it's going to be insane. I sat in GA near Turn 19 last year and there was just a sea of humanity at T1. Can't imagine what it will look like this year.

They just recently made those available.  Like @wood and others, I'm puzzled as to why they ever "stopped" selling GA tix, but at least now you know you can still buy some.

Looks like they have some "verified resale" tix available in the bleachers too, if you prefer.

I think he's cut a deal with a third party vendor as a way to get a cut of what the third party vendors make on the event. In return he drives up the price by calling it a sellout early on (when they were actually still selling fucking tickets btw, lol). That's why I predicted he'd release more tickets closer to the race. Now he's done that twice. Fucking POS. I know some people who are very pissed off about it because they paid a much higher price than the newly released tickets are going for. They're swearing they'll never go back.

Yeah, just Friday for me, too. It's gonna be a mess Sat & Sun.

And IMHO Turn is fanatastic as a driver's corner. Hellmund did a great job on it. Blind apex, flattens out in the middle of the uphill braking zone, making the cars lighter and harder not to lock up, wide entry to encourage moves up the inside, narrow exit, etc. But from a viewing standpoint it's massively overrated after Lap 1 imho. And just too crowded and really a mess. There are numerous better places to be imho.

Some of our friends left us at Turn15 and moved their PSL seats to T1.  I don't get it.  Like you said, it's fun for Lap1 Turn1, but beyond that, there are many better places to watch.

BTW, I just finished two articles and an explanation of how COTA continues to fuck up the track - sent to me by the engineer/racing surface specialist who oversaw the repairs & full resurfacing at Silverstone, Jarno Zaffelli. You might not believe how much thought and detail goes into the process - or doesn't, in some cases.

There's a listing on the schedule for Sky Sports F1 Danica Patrick Hot Laps on Friday, so does that mean she is actually going to drive?

She'll drive something. Could be a sports car or who knows, maybe one of those modified ride-along F1 cars. Maybe with the V10, like last time. That would be nice.

There's a joke in there about being happy to ride along Danica's hot lap any day.

But I won't be the one to make it.  No sir.  I'm a happily married man.

Yeah I've actually softened on Danica a bit since she retired. She's really a pretty good announcer, and not too hard on the eyes.

Any word on events around town by the teams? I had some buddies who went to Rainey Street on Saturday night in 2019 and McLaren was there passing out swag. Would love to get some gear.

This is what I had to do. Hope it's legit. Paid my money and he said I was good to go. Guess I'll just show up and explain I'm from the Internet.

Nada, afaik. I saw a reddit post asking the same thing, & the response was :crickets:

Softened? User name does not check out

LOL ... but if you look closely, I countered that later in the second sentence.

Given COVID and the COVID bubble the teams are supposed to maintain, I'd be surprised if the teams themselves are doing anything this year.

That doesn't mean that the local/regional Ferrari and McLaren dealerships or Red Bull corporate wouldn't be hosting something, though.

Hmm ... very interesting. Laurent Rossi from Alpine detoured to Indy on his way to Austin to visit with Michael Andretti.

And apparently Andretti was spotted in Hinwill today...

Danny Ric sighting at Voodoo Donut. According to my girlfriend's cousin's boyfriend's sister (Reddit), he ordered an apple fritter. You'll want to update your notes accordingly.

Sure! The first goes into a lot of detail about the process & equipment they used when they ground bumps in 2018. https://theasphaltpro.com/articles/micro-milling-provides-formula-1-retexture/ The biggest takeaways for me were the lack of specialized oversight, and the minimal effect the grinding will have due to only being able to ground down about 1/2" of the 1.6" deep top layer.

This one is from 2012 and details the original construction process.  Might want to read this one first if you aren't too familiar with the process. I never would have known where to find these, but he sent them to me Sunday night. https://www.forconstructionpros.com/home/article/10816416/smoothness-unique-mixes-key-to-new-formula-1-track-construction-near-austin

Zaffelli followed me on Twitter a few months ago. I noticed he was involved in track design and construction, but I hadn't heard of him before & didn't think too much of it. Then he started liking & commenting on some of my tweets. Then recently he pinged me on LinkedIn & we started an ongoing discussion. He fixed Silverstone's bad problems with bumps & drainage, but Bobby won't return his calls or emails., which tells you most of what you need to know about Bobby's approach to this.

thanks man!!

the last part is frustrating. they are going to end up in a standoff where F1 says they want them to fix the issue to sign the contract and Epstein says he will fix it after it is signed.

And the thing is, Bobby forces people to honor contracts, and then when it doesn't suit him to honor his end, he just refuses and says "Fuck you,. Sue me". Then he lawyers them into submission. Might not be able to do that with FOM, but you can bet he won't do all that he promises, and whatever he actually does do probably will be half-assed bullshit and won't get done right.

And yeah, the only way I see him even doing the minimum, halfassed T2-10 resurfacing the MotoGP riders and Dorna want him to do is if he gets a contract extension from one or both of F1 & MotoGP. There is zero chance he'll do even that for just one more year of F1 & MotoGP.
