Today’s resolution demonstrates that any company that obtains a competitor’s confidential information for commercial advantage, without authority or permission, should expect to be held accountable in federal court."

happened 7 years ago... and its just now being ajudicated?  Holy shit.

and Im pretty sure crowdsurge is either out of business or no longer selling tickets... which is exactly what ticketmaster wanted to happen.

how come this company isnt getting blasted under the Sherman Anti-trust act? They are clearly doing similar things like Standard Oil did- buying up competitors, or blocking competitors from being able to do business.

Eh, this is fairly typical of a trade secrets case.

The afflicted party discovers it, files a civil suit, goes to the FBI.  The FBI/DOJ waits for evidence to develop in the civil suit and then may or may not charge the individuals involved.

Then, after receiving cooperation from the individual defendants for lenience, DOJ indicts the corporation.

It appears that this was discovered around 2015, the individual defendants pled guilty around 2017, and here you have the corporation.  There's also an "unindicted co-conspirator," who is probably squealing on the whole thing and may or may not be convicted later.

Also, the fine comes from the criminal statute, which sets a maximum of $500k per violation.  Ticketmaster stipulated to 20 violations, so $10M.

Why the Antitrust Division or FTC hasn't moved against them is a separate, very complex question.
