I stashed a Elijah Craig Straight Rye at FIL’s house a couple years ago, and I just found it. There are few things better than found whiskey.

This is why I always hide hooch at my dad’s house.

It does taste like the Special Release from a few years back. Less cherry, more of a rich red fruit note. Also lacks a nice pop due to the lower proof. That said, it’s a terrific bottle. Nice chocolate covered fruit finish. I’ll take the lower proof for another year in the barrel and 300 more ml for about the same price.

Anyone have a bottle of Blanton’s that they would sell for normal cost (or anything else interesting at that price point)? It will go in a Dallas ISD school auction.

Being fortunate to be near The Whiskey Blendery here in the DFW area, I have had numerous of the Buffalo Turkeys and I have bought 4 different ones at a $225 price.  And they are all better than that bottle that was significantly more expensive.  OKI is being greedy IMO.  That's not a $400 bottle.

The Blendery is gift shop only/no shipping right? I’d rather pay a little extra than have to drive up there.

But I agree, OKI is being greedy. TexAgs did a pick for $260 a bottle. Spec’s gets a little cute on super allocated stuff, but they’re usually within $20-25 of MSRP. OKI priced it at $350, not Spec’s.

Not breaking news by any means, but Buffalo Trace store picks are infinitely crushable.

Very overrated IMO

Say more about this- what school, what’s your connection, where does it go, etc.

Not sure what's going there. Seeing it online everywhere for $49 to $53 or so.

My retailer doesn't usually miss on pricing that bad. Did not buy it, but now I am curious at the discrepancy.

Asked how much a pour of Blanton’s Gold was at a bar near me…..$85.
Come on man.

Sheeeeeit! I was at the bar at Hotel Zaza (Houston Museum District) this weekend and saw this man & woman study the bourbon list for a while and then proceed to order a 2 oz pour of Blanton's Gold for $125.  They also had Single Rickhouse listed for $175. I passed on that nonsense.  Went to 8 Row Flint a little later and the same Single Rick pour was $95 for 2 oz, that price felt much more reasonable.

On a related note, I was at The Grackle downtown in Austin a few weeks ago and while the bar did have a quite a few really great bottles, his prices felt a little high for my tastes as well.  We did get a single pour of 2024 OFBB for $35, i think i remember right.  We then had a JD 10 for $18 and the WT101 8 year aged for $20.  He had 2 different Single Ricks, RR 13 and RR15 as well as 4-5 bottles of Old Fitz just to name some of the harder to find ones.

At those types of places I would expect inflated prices.
This is a BBQ place in Midlothian.

The aforementioned couple either has a generous expense account or they’re regarded. I’ll defend the Zaza bar for martinis and pizza but they are not cheap.

The 8 Row Flint guy should be publicly shamed for his pricing. They were closed during Covid and I tried to help them out by buying a couple picks. The son of a bitch wanted $300 for a Four Roses pick. I still like the place, but it’s a margarita bar that apes as a bourbon bar.

Other the specials at Trash Panda, I can’t think of any place in Houston with reasonably priced pours.

I’d look for Bulleit 12 before buying Prideful Goat. I just think Bulleit has it dialed in on MGP rye.

I do like the Trash Panda, haven't visited in awhile.  I think we had Rock Hill Farms for the first time there, delicious!

my fave place is Reserve 101, you can usually find me there after a Saturday night Astros game, ordering some clarified sours and seeing if they have any pours worth trying.

Prideful Goat 12 year Rye, $109

pull the trigger at that price?

that's not retail.
Also the 12 year is Canadian Rye finished in American Whiskey Casks.

The 8 yr Rye is much better IMO.

The $109 quote was from the rep as I was perusing the allocation list.  It was verbal and could have easily been a mistake.

The staff at the store knows I like to shop in silence and if I have any questions, I'll bring them up.  Except her...LOL.  She's always trying to sell me something and it gets on my last nerve, but if it was legit 'something special' I was willing to partake.

Total Wine had their rare bourbon lottery a couple of weeks ago.  I won the opportunity to buy one.  I was able to get this one for $249 but the only Total Wine participating was in San Antonio over by Six Flags.  It was a pain to get to from North Austin but it did pay off.
