La Junta?

Heart O the Hills

the density of summer camps in Hunt, Texas blows my mind.

How? Why?

But also, why can’t I fucking go to camp?

Adult summer camp would be fucking sick.

Swimming, archery, horse riding, and all meals prepared.
Although I could never pay for my own happiness like I pay for my families….
But the month with no kids is one fucking nice fringe benefit.

The sad part is that I just end up working late every day, but just feel less guilty about it.

What the hell are we talking about again?

the nurturing biosphere of the guadalupe river.  I loved my summers in hunt.

I’m glad I can afford to offer my kids an opportunity to find themselves in that sacred biome as opposed to random dorm room floors, all night study sessions, all night benders, my bed with / the bed of loose women, and now the exile couch in the sunroom.

River Inn!  Wife's family got me hooked on that place.  Bring a keg or a few cases of beer, and sit on the water for a few days and unwind.  Don't mind the motel rooms, it's like a flashback to the 80s and 90s, but it's somehow better than staying at a 5* hotel in a major city by a mile.

Needs to add a warning: "WARNING: If you let your 7 & 10 year old kids walk 2 blocks to the store, you're going to prison."

When I was 10, staying with my grandma, I used to walk or ride my bike a little over a mile up to the highway, another quarter-mile to the liquor store and buy her an ass-pocket of whisky and a pack of Viceroys. And they'd gladly sell it to me and give back the right change. Sometimes I'd get the pennies' or even a nickel's worth of change in Bazooka bubble gum, penny apiece. And I'd walk back with that little brown paper bag. Nobody got arrested.
