This is what they are building at the site of the movie "Field of Dreams."

Let’s at least celebrate that it took 36 years for something like this to happen.

That’s about 35 years and 6 months longer than had that movie debuted in 2025.

Did even half of those guys make the Show?

2 HOFers nothing to sniff at, but man that seems like a pretty shitty first round. Admittedly, every year is probably like that and just goes to show you what a crapshoot it is. (Erstad, Jenkins, Morris all solid careers. I knew Shea was drafted by the Yankees but forgot he was their first rounder).

Holy fuck:

That's really cool.  Any idea where they found that?

Cardinals won in 7.

Just saw this one. Guessing most of you are already familiar with the stat.

Randy Johnson had 212 career games with 10 KS. No other left-hander has 200. How many other left-handers have 100?

as guesses - Carlton, Sabathia, maybe Lolich and McDowell?

Johnson and Nolan each have 200+.

Only three other guys have cracked 100+: Pedro, Clemens and Scherzer.

So Randy is the only lefty with 100 10K games and he has over 200.

He's 2nd with 97.

yeah,  I finally found the list.  I thought for sure Carlton would be one.  the other 3 were kind of fliers(McDowell #10 and Lolich #18).

guess it is pretty hard to get 10 K's in a game.

both Johnson and Koufax hand 10 K's in 30%+ of their career starts.  that is nuts.

Saw this one posted at fangraphs:

Barry and Bobby Bonds combined to hit 1,094 home runs, the most for a father-son due in MLB history. Which father-son pitching duo combined for the most wins?

Pitchers striking out more than a guy per inning is a fairly recent phenomenon, at least on a regular basis.  Hitters used to hate to strike out, even choking up on the bat with two strikes. Exceptions like Koufax were rare.

Don't make me post the old check-swing video again.

Roger & Kody Clemens

Probably needs the caveat that both have at least 1 win.

Can't come up with that many father son pitchers but I'll go with the Stottlemyres since dad was a Yankee in their heyday.

Only others I could even think of were the Drabeks and Leiters.

So badass:

This is apparently from opening day.  That's Phillies mgr Stuffy McInnis talking with Giants acting mgr Rogers Hornsby.  Later, you see them standing around John McGraw (who's presumably out again with another sinus bout).  At about 2:17, you can see that they're in the Phillies' Baker Bowl, where it was 280 down the RF line and 300 to the RF alley.  Chuck Klein would not be in the HoF had he spent his career anywhere else.

Spoiler

Nolan

Randy

Roger

Walter Johnson

Carlton

Seaver

Scherzer

Verlander

Sutton

Blyleven

Drysdale

Gibson

Phil Niekro

Pedro

Maddux

Smoltz

Kershaw

Pretty sure about these except for Drysdale.  That's 17, no more are coming to me.

Spoiler

So Drysdale is a no.  Was missing Jenkins, Perry, Schilling, and Sabathia

name the last pitcher to win 20 games in 4 consecutive seasons.

If this is who I think it is, no one is going to get this.  Hall of Famer, most of his career in Cleveland?  I used him in Immaculate Grid recently.

The Astros brought Satchel Paige to test pitching conditions, specifically to see how breaking balls would behave in the new indoor, air-conditioned environment. This event took place on February 7, 1965, about two months before the Astrodome’s official opening on April 9, 1965. Paige’s assessment was glowing. He called the Astrodome a “pitcher’s paradise,” noting that the windless conditions allowed for greater control and movement on sensitive pitches. In an April 1965 interview with Frank Godsoe of the Amarillo Daily News, Paige said, “I’ve pitched in more places than any other man, living or dead… But there’s no place to pitch like the Astrodome stadium in Houston… Man, that place is something else!” He believed the controlled environment could have extended his career by a decade if it had existed earlier, as it eliminated variables like wind and weather that often disrupted a pitcher’s rhythm.

nope never played in Cleveland.  I will say this his 4 consecutive seasons were in the AL.  Also, not in HOF.

Also, he is a post war player and someone everyone on this thread would know.

Palmer is a good guess but it is after him obviously.
