Not trying to panic, but it seems like things are starting to go sideways in a hurry for us in recruiting.

Didn’t someone say a while back that Sark is pretty checked out on recruiting 2027 or something of that nature?

When they land John Meredith they'll have the best DB haul for 27' for that class.  Then Tech will swoop in and grab the next level players and we'll take the 3*'s.  But it'll be OK, because the football board regulars will say Akina will coach em' up.

Yeah haven’t really been on here but every time im on twitter some 2027 is committing somewhere but here.

I chalked it up to being early but I think even some are already committing to Ohio state. Are they even trying?

The 26 recruiting board has been dead too, picked up a little recently but I thought it would’ve been more going on with all the coaches getting fired and us trying to flip.

I remember reading somewhere that Texas was Meredith’s favorite at one time but haven’t put in nearly the effort a&m has, which obviously led to them taking a giant lead in that recruitment.

Seems like the recruits are shifting their timelines to the left and Texas has failed to adjust… or they just got complacent and lazy.

2027 signing day is a long ways away, but given everything else that's going on, I think its fair to question how "all in" Sark and the staff are right now. The current roster construction is really flawed, if we don't hit this next transfer portal extra hard, I'd be ready to sound off a lot of alarms.

Big Opportunities for 2027 Recruiting with Final Home Games

***

It has been a difficult season to host recruits for the Longhorns this season, the schedule just was not very favorable in regards to hosting opportunities. Only six true home games in 2025, included three cupcakes at the beginning of the year where you had to battle the Texas heat. A hosting opportunity against top ten Vanderbilt, and now the two final games at the end of the season where going head to head with state playoffs is key, plus one of the largest holidays in the United States.

Also, having a full month away from home in the middle of the season certainly did not help the case either.

However, these next two weeks are massive opportunities for the Horns.

A 2:30 kickoff against Arkansas allows some additional time for out-of-staters to get to town, or for folks around the state to drive down to Austin after Friday night playoff games.

To me, these next two weeks are massive for the 2027 class. Yes, Texas is still putting the final touches on its 2026 class, and doing so at a pace that is sure to see another top five finish.

However, I view the recruiting calendar as one that is moving up quite a bit. We are seeing commitments at an earlier pace than previous cycles across the country.

Now, it is typically unlike Texas to stock up on the next cycle's class – save a quarterback – until the year flips. For the 2026 class, only Dia Bell and Chris Stewart committed before the flip of the calendar. However, that has not stopped rival programs from across the country from getting a head start on the upcoming cycle.

A couple of big dominos fell over the weekend.

Cibolo Steele DB Eli Johnson committed to Ohio State. Waxahachie DB JayQuan Snell committed to Texas A&M. Oklahoma also began receiving some predictions for former Longhorn commit LB Taven Epps to join their class.

Additionally, earlier in the month Westwood QB Kavian Bryant committed to Texas Tech, and Crowley WR Tay Ellis committed to Nebraska.

Looking across the board at the moment, it is evident that the recruiting calendar has sped up a bit.

  • Texas A&M – 7 commits
  • Oklahoma – 6 commits
  • Ohio State – 6 commits
  • Notre Dame – 6 commits
  • Georgia – 5 commits
  • Texas Tech – 4 commits
  • Alabama – 4 commits

Now again, we have seen the timeline for the Longhorns hold firm over the last few cycles. We have a pretty good understanding of when the Longhorns will begin pushing the envelope in the class. That will typically come at the turn of the calendar, and after the January Junior Day.

But these next two weekends are massive to begin swinging some momentum back in the favor of the Longhorns.

Texas is expected to host Basha (Az.) RB Noah Roberts, Libertyville (Il.) TE Brock Williams, Ruston (La.) Ahmad Hudson and Poquoson (Va.) OL Carter Jones for the Arkansas game on Saturday. A looming opportunity to begin generating some momentum in the class of 2027.

There will be plenty more visitors added to the list as the week progresses. But so far, that's a strong core of OOS prospects.

This is not meant to trigger alarm bells, more a layout type of opportunity this weekend possesses for the upcoming cycle. We know the timeline that Texas likes to follow as each cycle calendar refreshes.

Let's see what the staff has in store to conclude this season's home games at DKR.

are we even recruiting 27 kids at this point?

If what CTJ is saying is true, Sark’s not going to be the head coach at Texas for much longer. I can imagine recruiting '27 kids is pretty far down his list of concerns.

I've not kept up recently. Is it still Sarkisian to the NFL and more specifically the Tennessee Traitors?

I’m also behind on the latest. Headed to NFL?
Is Mrs Marcus Freeman driving around with Terry Saban looking at houses?

I’m sorry what CTJ post are you referencing? I never saw anything from him that implied there were any confirmed views Sark is gone.

Fong The Texas win over Texas A&M sees quick results on trail, but should also resonate for a long time

Quote

Texas capitalized on a big win on the field Friday night, knocking off previously undefeated Texas A&M 27-17 in front of a raucous home crowd.
It was a scene that many talented recruits could see themselves thriving in. A couple jumped in the fold and others certainly will down the road.
In the 2026 cycle, Texas flipped four-star defensive lineman Jamarion Carlton from Baylor, a move that saw the Longhorns rise to No. 7 in the Rivals Industry Recruiting Rankings.
Ranked as the nation’s No. 10 defensive lineman and No. 99 prospect overall, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Carlton pads a class that is already loaded on the defensive side of the ball. He joins a defensive line group that already included five-star Richard Wesley and fellow Top100 recruit James Johnson. That’s a terrific blend of size, speed and disruptors at the point of attack.
Top-ranked linebacker Tyler Atkinson, linebacker/edge Kosi Okpala and cornerback Samari Matthews were three more coveted players that have the traits to keep this defensive playing at a championship standard.
Texas has been on a roll flipping targets with the three-day National Signing Day period beginning Wednesday Dec. 3. Carlton was the latest, coming on the heels of turning linebacker Rocky Cummings from Cal, prolific in-state running back Jett Walker from Minnesota and offensive lineman Kaden Scherer from Stanford.
Walker was excited to be back in Austin on Friday night.
“My visit was awesome,” Walker said. “The energy of the stadium was crazy and it was good to see them get a good win over the Aggies.
“What excites me is seeing the stage they play on and the culture they have created, I can see myself fitting in well and making an impact.”
One more talented defensive player Texas could add to the fold is Boulder (Colo.) Fairview Rivals300 athlete Toray Davis. He took a quick visit to Austin.
“It was a great trip,” Davis said. “Texas has a great tradition and culture and that was great to see.”
The biggest recruiting news of the weekend came in the 2027 class as Texas landed a commitment from Rivals No. 1 receiver Easton Royal.
“They have everything i need to be great on and off the field,” the five-star Royal said.
“The energy that flows through the place and the opportunities that present when you go there not just football but outside of it, the city of Austin is constantly growing opening opportunities.”
It will be interesting to see what this game and experience does for someone like the Rivals Industry’s No. 1 ranked overall junior in five-star cornerback John Meredith III. The Aggies have been the perceived favorite but we know the Longhorns get cooking a little later than most teams. I could definitely see the Burnt Orange making a run for Meredith. And that’s just the beginning of the list when you have bragging rights for a full year against your biggest recruiting rival.
Texas is considered the heavy favorite for in-state On300 edge rusher Cameron Hall and the Longhorns impressed several other 2027 recruits.
“Visit to Texas was awesome like next level,” the nation’s No. 2 defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou said. Other top contenders include Notre Dame, Michigan, Oregon and USC. “I thought I’d seen it all with game atmosphere but this one was really cool and tops it. Loved the coaches and staff there very welcoming and great energy. What stood out was their academics program and the extra support they offer tailored around the athletes. They also have campus ministry which everyone knows my faith is important to me, so for them to highlight that was a huge plus. God first always.”
“Fans are very prideful and loud!” in-state receiver Jeremiah Douglas said. “Love the atmosphere, my favorite thing about them. Also how much love the staff shows us as recruits, means a lot.”
Stay tuned as more reaction comes in from a big recruiting weekend at Texas.
