I had to resort to AI to tell me what “scuffled” means in this context.

That's a pretty mangled spelling of "sucked."

Looks like a guaranteed Texas win. Same way aggy views its spring football game.

I view having the two finalists as a win (provided they show up on campus).  Not the same thing imo.

Those two were locks to be gone, unfortunately. But that was planned for, so no real damage yet.

Gavin Fien: round 1, pick 12 (Rangers), pick value $5.75M

Kayson Cunningham: round 1, pick 18 (Diamondbacks), pick value $4.58M

Texas made it through the first three rounds without any surprises or additional damage. Pick (4th round - 106) value is now somewhere around $721,000.

Only other Texas player/commit drafted thus far was Max Belyeu at 74 in the Competitive Balance Round B (CB-B, between the second and third rounds) and will reunite with Jared Thomas in the Rockies' org. Pick value was $1.11M. Too bad he was injured this season or he would have gone higher.

Not completely out of the woods yet with a couple transfers

Now through six rounds and 195 picks. No further damage. Slot value now $314.5k

Of note, Spencer (ranked 113th prospect) and Galvan (176), have not been selected. Flores is listed at 235.

I wouldn’t draft Flores even if I was picking for an enemy. I can’t see that guy ever making it to the bigs. I assume Spencer goes later because of the injury and lack and leverage.

I assume Galvan wouldn't return, period, regardless of where drafted?

I wouldn't hate him coming back and he and Tinney can split time and DH?

Except for the ND transfer?

Agreed.

Regardless, it appears this team is going to be loaded.

I like Galvan. He brings a lot of fire and swagger. I know people don’t love his antics in the box but I do.

Fiery competitor and a great defensive catcher.

If he and Tinney could split DH and C, that sure would limit Galvan's injury concerns, too.

If Galvan reaches round 11, I'll start considering it a possibility.

And return a pretty good power bat.

I think age is hurting Galvan. Already 22 years old at a position where the lifespan is shorter than others.

He also has massive swing and miss concerns. His swing will likely need to be reworked quite a bit.

That is Tinney

Oops, my bad.  Brain cramp had me thinking this was the McLennan guy.  For sure Tinney and Galvan would be a great combo.

I can't see Galvan hanging around if he doesn't go pro.   he could still transfer and sign a decent NIL deal, right?  Tinney isn't going to sit/DH very often.

We are now through the first ten rounds. Spencer, Galvan, and Flores have not been drafted. Of the three, only Spencer is out of eligibility. Flores is not likely back. As said above, maybe Galvan returns?

Either way, Texas should be safe as it pertains to their high school class and transfer portal class making it to campus at this point. Can't imagine anyone signs for 150k, or that a team throws huge money from the bonus pole to entice one of the top remaining guys, at this point. Who knows though.

Portal closed like a week and a half ago? Did he enter the draft and portal simultaneously? I know that is popular in basketball

The portal is closed, closed. I don't even think grad transfers can enter.

I think Galvan is signing regardless. He still make up to $150k after round 10 without a team having to dip into their bonus pool.

There are a few HS guys I think could sign for the $150k.

Not anyone super notable, but I've heard rumblings of a few of the lower-ranked guys potentially wanting to just get started with their pro career.

I guess there is precedent from football that he could just unenroll and reenroll at a different school. However, I agree that it is most likely that Flores and Galvan just move on.

Yeah, I was referring to the top end of the class that remains after Fien and Cunningham.

my bad, I assumed that it was basically the wild west and you can always transfer any time before the school year starts.  Galvan may just have decided to be done with college and get on with it...

How likely is Galvan to be able to improve his draft value with a good season, being a year older and out of eligibility next time?

feels to me like it’s time for him to start his pro career and see how it goes.

Can't see Galvan coming back or Texas taking him back. Just recruited that ND catcher All American guy over him.

I think Galvan's done at UT

We are likely going to have to cut a few HS kids loose in the next few weeks. I don't see the numbers adding up with what we have returning + portal guys + what is currently 16 HS signees.

I don't agree with this. Texas did not recruit Tinney over Galvan. They went and got Tinney because they needed a guy to replace a departing Galvan. They were two of three finalists for the Buster Posey Award, which Bodine (CCU) won. There was no "recruiting over."

@Js1, @Hookem2147, and myself are well aware of the state of Texas' current roster. We're merely speculating if this unexpected uncertainty potentially allows for the unforeseen circumstance of Galvan returning to Texas to occur. Nevertheless, I'd imagine we're all on the same page as you that it is unlikely, for a number of reasons. However, Texas doesn't have a qualified backup catcher on the roster after Tinney, which makes a conversation about platooning C/DH for the two more likely given Galvan's fall in the draft.
