I don’t understand NBA players. If they’re based in NYC, all they have to do is call any casino in Atlantic City or Connecticut and tell them they want to gamble. They’d at least send a private car, and depending on the name and credit limit they might charter a chopper.

They’d play a honest game at a closely regulated casino. Nope. They’d rather play at Uncle Tony’s card game conveniently located in the attic of a deli in Greenwich Village.

I guess the old adage is true. Ball players want to be gangsters. And gangsters want to ball players. I’d assume they wanted to be around wise guys.

I would imagine that mobbed up guys will be happier to extend credit to ballplayers out over their skis with gambling debts. Which is likely how these guy got roped into insider shit to begin with.

I was describing this to my wife and she said "This is like the poker game in The Sopranos where Tony took the sporting goods guys store."

Yep.

Love that incident, so core to what a horrible person Tony is.  Would cost him nothing to keep his friend out— he knew deep down how it would end up and all the stops along the way were just Tony giving himself permission to destroy the guy’s life for Tony’s benefit.

"According to reports, the IRS filed an $8,218,211 federal income tax lien against Rozier in November 2023. This news came to light around the same time he was arrested and indicted on federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering in connection with an illegal sports betting scheme.
Rozier's attorney, Jim Trusty, has disputed the amount, stating that Rozier only owed $9,000 of the total 2021 taxes, which has since been paid, and that they are working with the IRS to have the lien removed.
The timing of the tax lien has led to speculation that the alleged gambling scheme, in which Rozier is accused of manipulating his performance in a game to profit from prop bets, may have been a way to pay off the substantial tax debt."

According to reports, there is no record of the tax lien coming off the books, so Rozier's lawyer is probably just blowing smoke. If this is true, and it sure looks like it is, perhaps Rozier's scam was because of a huge tax debt and this is not mob-related.

And get out your popcorn cause Adam Silver has to testify in front of congress in two weeks about why they didn't find any cheating by Rozier, haha.

I don't know what's more surprising....the fact that he signed a 4 yr, $100M contract in 2021 and still felt compelled to engage in this shit, or merely the fact that Terry Rozier signed a 4 year, $100M contract. Fucking crazy money these cats are making, and still cant avoid getting in these fucked up situations. Stupid as fuck.

Yeah, we're not exactly talking about the best and the brightest here.
