Quail Hollow is home to 4 wins for Rory, so after winning the Masters is the co-favorite at +500, along with Scottie (shows what a dominant week can do for you)
Jordan looking for his career grand slam; JT returning to where his won is 1st major (FWIW -8 was the winning score in 2017); Bryson looking to prop up the LIV crewe, and for fun Michael Block (of the 2023 Block party fame at Oak Hill has qualified.

I have great hopes for this to be a close event with big names dominating; and Jordan with a chance (for the 9th time) to get the slam. 18th hole is 494 (from the tips) and makes for a challenging finish.

Every year I have to remind myself that it's in May.  Remind me the impetus for the move?  Was it to allow for more places to host (weather / heat issues) or trying to get away from Ryder Cup timing or something else?

I believe one of the major explanations was space for FedEx Playoffs to not cross over into NFL season.   And also to accommodate Olympic Golf (I think)

Both of you are correct on all counts. There were a ton of good reasons for the move and one bad one (it's how it's always been so we shouldn't change, which is a stupid reason to not change).

It gives a nice cadence to the calendar as well with one golf major per month for 4 months and then the FedEx in Aug.

Rory says he was expecting the course to feel different being a major, but says it's playing the same as if it were the Wells Fargo, rough is a bit juicer, that's it.

Are we going to see some scores?

I'm not sure why that is a big surprise, PGA has never been as anal as the USGA about making courses brutally hard. PGA wants a fair test, though the wet fairways and a wet rough will lengthen the course; which favors big hitters....like Scottie, Rory, BDC, you know the guys already favorites. I think they could choose harder pins than they have at the Wells Fargo, especially Thur & Friday when the regular event is trying to make sure they get everyone around the course.

Scottie, Rory, and Xander all took a double bogey on 16. Top 3 players in the world. I imagine that is a rare feat.

Love Matt Berrie’s comment about that hole…

”That was like the big one at Daytona”.

Did they just say Cam Young has made 90ft of putts.... through his second hole? Already sank more in two holes than a typical full round?

Holy shit.

He drained it from another zip code on his second hole.

I don’t anticipate that Ryan Gerard is going to burn this place to the ground for four days.

Hell, it's already starting to get to him. Dropped a shot on each of his last two holes to finish -5.

I’m guessing because he’s the Ryder Cup captain for Europe and the PGA runs our side of that event

This is the 3rd PGA he's played in a row for some reason. It's strange when you look at his recent major appearances (only 1 total in '17 and '18, too). Maybe it is a Ryder thing.

Yeah this is the second term for him as captain so it fits the timeline.

A Longhorn on top of the leaderboard after round one. Not the one most of us would have guessed.

This is a cool achievement for Vegas

He has never finished in the top 20 in a major and hadn't qualified for this one in three years. He is the first player representing Venezuela to hold a lead or co-lead after any round at a major.
