There are 32 teams in this now?  5 of them from North Africa and the Middle East.  That's FIFA I guess.  Somehow it's in the US though and not Saudi or Qatar.  Miami is scoreless in the 2nd half with Al Ahly from Egypt on TBS.

Miami is rocking the flamingo unis.

Messi with a sweet free kick just wide into the side net.

Still funny to me that Messi, Saurez, Busquets, and Alba are all now being managed by Mascherano

Tough match for Miami. Had lots of opportunities but didnt get it done. They are going to really need to get a win against the Brazilian team in their group now.

Apparently the New Zealand team couldn't make it because they couldn't get off from work.

My bad - they don't have their full squad available. They cobbled 20 guys together I guess.

Bayern just shredding Auckland. These two teams don’t belong anywhere near the same field.

You mean this goofy fucking event that no one asked for is playing out exactly as we knew it would?

I like a few other teams getting a shot at the CL winners - past that - most of this is unnecessary.

PSG vs Atletico getting going on tnt.  I'll probably watch some just to see VY's house.

Going to Sounders v Botafogo this evening in the Group o' Death - wouldn't likely be competitive even if the Sounders weren't banged up, but I'm still looking forward to seeing some of these teams I'd probably never see otherwise.

Switched over from the USMNT to Porto - Palmeiras and MetLife is jam packed. They’re be some shitty games but the Euro vs S.A. matches will be fun. Bought tix last night for inter v River at Lumen.

I’m still in on this tournament but LOL at Bayern having 31 shots with 17 on frame and over 70% possession

Ah, but I speak enough Portuguese to have fun with the Brazilian fans, and am enjoying drinking with them.

The match was actually entertaining.

To be clear, that's not "Auckland FC". That's "Auckland City FC".

Auckland FC is a professional organization that plays in the top tier A-League in Australia (they're based in New Zealand).

Auckland City FC is an amateur organization akin to your city league teams (give or take).

The ownership of the professional Auckland FC is also the ownership of several other competing clubs. There's a lot of handwaving, but essentially international rules prevent owners of multiple clubs from having those clubs in tournaments.

Thus, Auckland City FC ended up playing the Bundesliga champions with predictable results.

But besides the obvious.

Are there any other reasons?

Well the REAL obvious.

In the end DAZN has broadcasting rights they paid for - they are likely the ones that dictate the match schedule.

I had to look up what “DAZN” stood for/meant.

I guess that I will not be watching this tournament.

🤷‍♂️

EDIT: The match is also on TBS, so why not.

The Facebook page of Argentina’s sports channel TyC Sports (Torneos & Campeones) is pointing out that the stadium isn’t quite full for the Chelsea vs LAFC match… midday in Atlanta.

Not everyone understands that it’s a dome, so the temperature during the day in the summer is really not that important.

They do understand that it is a pitiful turnout though

Big win for Trump, Saudi and FIFA.

Does that mean spaniards can throw bananas again?

I don't think that segment of America makes it to many matches at least.

Why are Chelsea and LAFC playing at 3PM on a Monday?

Geez, talking about dumb scheduling - Dortmund and Fluminense (Italy) played a noon game today in Miami. Looked pretty empty.

Nope...

"Fluminense Football Club (Brazilian Portuguese: [flumiˈnẽsi futʃiˈbɔw ˈklubi]) is a Brazilian sports club based in the neighbourhood of Laranjeiras, in Rio de Janeiro, being the oldest football club in the state since its foundation in 1902. It competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, the first tier of Brazilian football, and the Campeonato Carioca, the state league of Rio de Janeiro. The word "fluminense" is the gentilic given to people born in the state of Rio de Janeiro."

Fuck this abortion of a cash grab, aka tournament.

You know if you get down to it, all football is a cash grab. Isn't it? Don't you think it's kind of fun to see entire clubs compete like the country all-stars will next year?

Has attendance been that bad for the big European teams.  I assume people show up for their big preseason American tours or they wouldn't keep doing them.

A club team from anywhere else in the world is goung to be a much harder sell.
