Texas rights the ship, wins 3-1

Still sloppy, especially early, but Florida was sloppier

Texas finished at .324. What we expect to see

A good service error/ace ratio in volleyball is

1:1 or better, meaning you have at least as many aces as errors. While aggressive serving can lead to more errors, the goal at the advanced level is to be aggressive while still achieving a 1:1 ratio or higher, with some experts suggesting a ratio of 0.67:1 as a minimum threshold.

It's the dumbest metric in volleyball.

The point of a serve is not to get an ace. It's to put pressure on the opponent so their scoring options are limited. But we don't measure that in the box score.

There should be a measurement of how many points a team scores with the player at the service line. That would be an easy, objective measurement that wouldn't take any time at all to tally. It's not a fair assessment of a server. It is, however, a fair assessment of the effectiveness of that specific service rotation.

Swindle had a service run in the 4th set where she had two effective serves. Texas scores on both. Her third serve goes a little long - not much long mind you, but a little - and the announcers are all over her about how you have to get that serve in against that rotation.

I will take a 67% scoring run from the service line all day long every day. Texas scored on 42.7% of their serves versus Florida scoring on 31.8% of their's. That's literally the difference in the match.

I hate the stupid ace/error ratio so much. It has absolutely no meaning regarding the outcome of a match whatsoever.

It's always entertaining reading the game chat followed by the score.  You'd think Texas was getting worked, but nope, just a 3-1 road win vs a quality program where they went to 30+ in the 1st and then won by 7, 6 & 6 while never trailing by more than 2, or later than 10 pts in.

To be fair, the first half of the first set looks like a “oh here we go again” match after last weekend

I commend the team for bouncing back after a lot of set 1 losses the last month but as we saw last weekend, that’s going to kill us in December

Now go back and start reading from the beginning of the 2nd set.  And this isn't something new - this has been the board/thread MO for YEARS.  I find it highly entertaining - it's no different than a couple of my group texts on Saturdays.  I'll be doing something other than watching UT play and my phone will have 25 messages and when I read them, it certainly sounds like the Horns are getting blown out.  Nope, a 20+ pt win.

TBF, they did get worked for 2/3 of set 1

I was just about to post, lol.

When Florida is on, they can be dangerous. Auguste and Rothe are good middle blockers. We tried to recruit Rothe. Byrd is talented but uneven as an outside hitter. Auguste is terrific as an offensive middle. Madkin is the second outside. A transfer out of Arkansas. Smallish, and up and down, but when she's on she's dangerous. I love Stucky. I think she's one of the best setters in the country. It's a shame her career at Florida has gone the way it has. I'm sure not what she expected. She's celebrating senior night with one year of eligibility left, so that's a pretty good sign she's gone after this season.

I will be surprised and disappointed if we lose to this Florida team. They have talent, but they haven't been consistent all year. Just lost to South Carolina of all teams 3-1, with 15 service errors. Out hit, out dug, out scored the Gamecocks, but in the end out lost to them, too.

There was a vbadrenaline article about changes Elliott has made with the team. I should have posted it here but haven't. I'm interested to see if anything manifests tonight, whether good or bad. I feel like fans take too literally what coaches say to the media in terms of what is going on with the team. I'm interested to see if there are any differences in how the team plays and what is emphasized. Specifically in terms of serving and blocking. Apparently that's what David Hunt was recently put in charge of. Don't know who had those responsibilities before, or what can be done in a week versus a whole off season.

Maybe Bird should've tried inside hitter when she was at Texas. Even Lauenstein proved to be better at OH than her last night. She might be better than Devin, but Devin doesn't play very much anyway.

I miss the days from the NC teams when Texas would go long long 6-8 point runs with Asjia and Akana serving because they simply got the serve in. We've had only a bit of that this year with Emma and Rella, but they seem to end it with a SE. Even Rella had had too many SE's lately when she hardly had any at the beginning of the season.

Yes, blocking was better last night, but was it really better, or just the level of opponent?

And where is Harvey? Did she get in the doghouse or is she hurt?

Ames last year and Harvey this show why MBs at Texas usually redshirt their true freshmen year. Texas has to rebuild that MB depth that we lost when Singletary left and we didn’t pick up anyone in the portal for depth
