That sucks.  Flaco was a giant in his musical genre.

I read that Dave Edmunds had some sort of medical event and isn't doing well, either.  We're going to be seeing a lot of these great musicians and artists passing away in the near future, unfortunately.

Not to be morbid, but I was trying to convey that I think the rate of attrition for really significant rock/pop musicians will increase even compared to the past, unfortunately.  As the "appreciation thread for old guys" thread notes, a lot of 'em are at that age now.

I was familiar with the name, but Dwight was my knowing introduction to El Flaco.

I like the smile Pete Anderson gives to Flaco, then he moves over and back to give Flaco the spotlight.

Truly one of a kind.  There is no replacement. Grew up in South Texas and he was on seemingly every song on every juke box in every beer joint. Sucks to know his gone. Apretarlo Flaco. This cumbia’s para ti.

Man, this hit hard. Grew up with my dad and Tios jamming to his music at weekend family BBQ. I remember seeing the Texas Tornados for the first time at the Austin Aqua Fest. It was like their 2nd or 3rd performance and they tore it up.

Later in life, my Tio (since passed) served in the army with him. He remembers Flaco pulling out the Hohner and playing a private performances for all his army buddies. He would run into him at dances in the 70's and Flaco would always dedicate a song to his old Army buddy Joe.

I met him a couple of times. He was always gracious and took time for a talk and a pic. Guy lived a life. His music will never die. RIP Flaco.
