Why would the QB not finish the season? The portal window opens Jan 2-16. If UNT makes the playoff, they'll get bounced in the first game mostly likely which is December 19-20. If they somehow win their first game, he still has plenty of time to make his decision to go to Oklahoma State.

He'll have better options than OkSU.  Even with his HFC going there.

Agreed, but I'd put heavy odds on OSU gaining Mestemaker's services next year.

Who? (Commanders QB coach)

Really thought the big NIL infusion and Luck could land a bigger name. Or he’s just a puppet for Luck

He could wind up being a real gem, 💎 what’s not to like. Former player, alum of Stanford and seems to be good at his previous roles. I think it helps he’s been in the pros. He’s young. I also think it helps that he’s an alum and cares about the school. I’d rather have loyalty. I guess. Not someone that is always looking for another job somewhere else

The reaction so far appears to be “uh ok”

Not really the type of hire to rejuvenate a very dejected fanbase.

Can’t see Mestemaker sitting out a championship game with a CFP spot on the line. Especially with his coach sticking it out. He’ll have offers but really think he’ll go OSU.

I hope it becomes the norm for guys like Morris to finish the season and postseason with their squads when a conference championship and CFP bid are still play.

Agreed, however UNT fans want him out of town, like yesterday.  They hate and despise him.  It’s 50% sad and 50% comical how they are acting about Morris leaving.

I'm surprised UNT fans are this ungrateful and stupid.

Mean Green wouldn't be in this position without Morris. Thank him for his exemplary service and move on. Y'all don't have the financing to retain his services and should know that you're a stepping stone for up-and-comers.

maybe larger schools should have to compensate the UNT’s when they poach their HCs?

What they should be more concerned about is who their AD will hire.  His last three coaching hires have been two D2 coaches and a very low level D1 coach
all of who were complete unknowns.  MBB and Softball have been competitive on a national level for several years, and those hires were completely unserious WTF’s.  To be honest, at the time of the hire Morris was a barely known.  I just don’t see this ending well for UNT and they are about to get send back to irrelevancy all across the athletic department.

Where do you think the buyout money from a coach's contract goes?

The thought I was told was the QB is going to sit out the bowl game and follow Morris, but could be all total speculation and bullsthit.

Sad part though is if it happened would anyone be surprised and not knocking the kid, Morris, or Ok State, but where college football has fallen with no floor in site.

Why cannot UNT find a decent enough coach that wants to stay? There are worse locations and those find HCs that want to stay. Can’t they just make their alumni base donate $5 a person a year? and create a decent war chest? They have like 467,000 alumni and most live in that area. Like make em pony up if they don’t like losing their up and comers to other schools?

Agree, he could be a hit,

The things we don't know are things such as hiring staff and the day to day coaching decisions.

Will Andrew make those?

Just look at the stands today before kickoff.

UNT is a commuter school. Most of the students and alumni don't care about Mean Green football. A young, motivated coach like Morris ain't staying there if a P4 team wants him. It is what it is.

1. They don’t pay well.

2. Their NIL/Rev Share is at the bottom of the AAC.

3.  Look at their stands today and tell me if that’s a crowd representative of a 10-1 team on the verge of an AAC Championship Game appearance and a possible playoff spot.

One small question, who is going to enforce that?

And furthermore, if the committee is evaluating $$$ considerations when choosing which G5 team gets the spot, that won’t favor UNT either.  Again, the home game crowd today does them no favors in that regard either.

These days, bowl games are meaningless. I can't blame Mestemaker for sitting out whatever low-level bowl game UNT gets. It's just an exhibition anyway.

I expect he'll play in the unlikely event UNT sneaks into the CFB Playoffs.

This, the North Texas version of University of Houston.

Curious how many of those alums started at UNT .
