Texas’ brand isn’t being damaged by playing a bowl game against Michigan. I thought you had some form of background in marketing, therefore having at least a tangential understanding how brands and branding work? Good grief.

I was disappointed we didn’t get to play Kansas in the Covid year.  Hell, I was  disappointed in the years we weren’t worthy of a bowl appearance.

I enjoyed myself quite a damn bit sitting in DKR chanting, with a few others during the Kansas game in 1997, “Stay Ricky Stay.”  It was cold.  It was a terrible season.  Maybe it was meaningless for many.  It wasn’t for me.

I’ll be ready to watch the Citrus Bowl and be disappointed I’m not there.

I can live with being a moron for those to be meaningful.

Seeing Tech in the playoffs and us in a meaningless exhibtition, because our hubris kept us in a road OOC game that should have been shifted to a home game against a cake opponent, is joyless for me. The real question is, why isn't it joyless for you?

Of course we should be playing this exhibition game. The extra practices are crucial. QB is a unique and special position, and Arch should not be put at risk. An argument can be made that Colin Simmons should also not see the field. Everyone else should play.

As for your reference to next season's Ohio State game, that game still being on our schedule proves that some unhealthy blend of hubris & stupidity is driving our program leadership. It should be another cake game to get our players ready for the conference schedule next year, which looks to be rough.

A lot of you seem to value a wide variety of things other than championships.

This post is as fucking retarded as the. Were Texas at 9-3 we are in the playoffs

Let's recap what I said in a post that you labeled fucking retarded:

- It sucks that Tech is in the playoffs and we aren't

- While I think the extra practices are valuable for all of the other players, I don't think it is worth playing and risking injury for Arch and Colin Simmons in a meaningless exhibition game.

- Playing Ohio State last year instead of an easy win kept us out of the playoffs (empirically, this is true) and the playoff committee has made it very clear that keeping difficult OOC games on our schedule is an unnecessary risk.

If you can avoid the ad hominem attack impulses, which point is fucking retarded?

The entire fucking post.  Don’t play arch Simmons or anyone in this game and crying about the schedule made years ago so let’s cancel Ohio state and look like a bunch of pussies to the world while we are already a punching bag laughing stock after shutting the bed this year.  Play the fucking football game. That’s what players do. Arch could fall of his razr scooter on the way to class and hurt himself tomorrow.    No game is worthless or there would be no reason to have a season.  Every single player on this team underperformed this year. Every one took a step back. They need all the reps they can get m

I'm a fan, but I'm a bigger fan of Surlyhorns, and I'm looking forward to lots of funny posts about this embarrassing football game.

Which will undoubtedly include numerous posts from simpletons shitting out (again) AI generated slop across multiple threads in a shameless effort to troll for rep, right?

You’re also not wired very well for basic logic. The two outcomes are going to be by and large unrelated. Scream to the rafters that a Rising-like injury for Arch Manning says otherwise, and that will still just be a you problem.

I'd take it a step further and saying that beating OSU in the early season non-con has a connection to playing in this bowl game. The extra practices matter. Going into the off season with a confidence building win matters. Letting the young guys play in the spotlight matters. Playing in this bowl game and giving reps to guys who will be starters next year is a good thing for the team and will contribute to our success next season. Arch isn't made of glass and players want to play.

Livingstone and Wingo are still here. Our young LBs who will lead the room next season are still here. KJ Lacey is still on the team.

What are you talking about?

would seem to me the most immediate point of the game is final dress rehearsal before portal season begins. good way to know if some more bodies than even what's on paper will be needed.

Michigan strikes me as a close-the-ranks sort of program these days. I would think they come out with a point to prove.

I agree. Michigan will play with intensity and a chip. And we, per usual, will need a 4th quarter comeback.

Reasons to play this game:
1. Practice
2. See how young guys can do
3. Sports are for entertainment

At the same time, I agree that you have to be smart about it. No QB run plays and fewer long-developing routes. Don't play anyone who gets dinged up. Maybe rotate a little extra on defense. Anything to avoid injuries while still giving guys meaningful experience.

Fair point, and it's strange, 'cause checking your rep, for some reason, people seem to greatly prefer my horrible posts to your brilliant, amazing and captivating efforts. Weird, right?

I appreciate you and your posts, but dont point to rep counts as proof that you’re right. Popular != correct.

The ideal scenario is Arch plying the first half during which we beat up on a Michigan team in utter disarray, and we see KJ Lacey in the second half.

LMAO. Last I checked, Arch is going to be the QB next season. Smith and Barnes will get significant time at LB.

You're complaining about players portalling out and a lack of development opps in the same post. You know many of the players who will receive PT next season are playing in this bowl game, right?

The extra practice and in-game reps are great for us.

The chicken littles are out in full force, today.

Would be great if we get Lacey some reps too. I won't be surprised if some of our young players like James Simon step up in this game either, not only to prove themselves, but also because they know it's "Tag, they're it".

Fair enough. I have to confess that I am a great admirer of your screen name. It's one of the coolest names on the site.

Like in the Vandy, Arkansas, and aggy games?
