This coming weekend is probably a big travel weekend for most folks.  It's the weekend before Christmas, so we are travelling to Abilene to see my sister.  My brother is coming in from DFW with his wife and two daughters that are the same age as my boys - 16 and 12.  Drinking isn't as much of a thing as it has been in decades past.  The moms usually get pretty lit up on wine, but my brother and I don't get all rowdy and hit the bars for high school reuinion type parties any more.

The last couple of years I have brought a game to try to get everybody doing the same thing for a little while.  I brought out this Blockbuster Video trivia card game.  It was fun for about 20-30 minutes.  I won.  My brother got all snippy that I won.  The girls liked it until they needed a second refill of wine.  Good enough for a $20ish game.

I was listening to a podast by Tim Ferris, and he made this new game that he was advertising heavily.  Coyote.  Link is a six second video showing game play.Exploding Kittens Coyote Card Game: Social Skills Development, 10-Minute Playtime, 3+ Players, Full Game, 1 of 12

Does anyone have other fun games like this for family get-togethers?

Cards against Humanity or if that's too inappropriate apples to apples.

Oh, there's a family version of Cards Against Humanity.  Plenty of junior high humor without getting just completely vulgar and offensive.

Left center right is always fun for about an hour, people need to bring $3 cash per game. The more people the longer it takes and the more fun. Kids can play too if you're ok with the gambling part of it. It's basically a game of chance.

We play exploding kittens a lot, that's one that is more kid oriented but still fun.

Trivial Pursuit is still the gold standard of adult trivia games imo. They have multiple versions but genius edition is the hardest and most fun imo.

Forbidden Island is a good coop game.

I was going to post that. It's a great game and is a nice change of pace from competitive games. Families might still find a way to fight and argue, but overall it's meant to be a cooperative game for the whole group to solve.

Played this for the first time with my in-laws, including my MIL.  I knew it was supposed to be vulgar, but I was unprepared.  When the first instruction was, "The last person who took a shit goes first," I was like, "Uh-oh.  Here we go."

Also, I'm thinking about hiring a dungeon master to take our small family through a brief campaign for 2-4 hours. I think that could be a fun experience.

Interesting choice.

Jackbox.

I cannot sell this one enough.  It's an online package of all kinds of games - trivia, music, jokes, etc.  Been playing it for years with the fam.

Jackbox is great and the use of phones makes it easy to play. I'd recommend it the most if you're playing with all adults or mainly kids, but it gets kind of awkward with too many adults and kids at the same time. Lots of innuendos and what have yous...

Not exactly the spirit of the thread, but Mrs. Doom, the Doomlet, and I play a lot of open-handed Uno. Don't know how it would translate to larger groups, but for three, it's a fun variation and allows for a good bit of strategy.

Funny you should mention that.  My two sweet little angel boys, 18 and 14, like to compete to see who can shock my wife the most with inappropriate answers.  That's part of the fun.

I usually skip that part of the video.

Tiny Epic Dungeons might be a good co-op option to scratch that itch.

We've been playing Outsmarted!  It's a trivia game with a ton of categories to choose from. Phone based but has a physical board.  One of the cool things about it is that you can play on a virtual board so family that it not able to come can play too. We sometimes get my brother in law who's in Germany to join and he just plays on the virtual board and we track his moves on ours.  Plays quick too if you want. There are several settings that make it so you can have a longer or shorter game.  The variety of categories makes for good competition as some folks know more about history or geography, and some are better at pop culture stuff.
