  6. American universities graduate approximately 250,000 international students each year between bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. Between undergraduate and graduate degree programs, 41 percent of international students graduating from American universities between 2012 and 2020 still lived in the country as of 2021, according to an analysis of the National Survey of College Graduates. 17 percent of bachelor’s degree recipients stay, but Half of master’s degree recipients and 3/4 of PhD recipients also stay.

  9. I appreciate all the comments on this thread observing the litany of mythology the OSU fan base has about their team. I remember them being the same way in 2005 prior to that game. There's a culture thing going on there. As far as Arch Manning "tapping out" I've seen several references to him suffering a concussion in the Cotton Bowl on the 8 yard run and unwilling to go back out on the field, unlike the tough Quinn Ewers who was obviously the better quarterback anyway because Manning couldn't beat him out for the starting job. Also, it's a common refrain that anything Texas did well in the game last year is dismissed as "and we still beat them by 14 points!" Never mind that 7 came on a fluke screen pass that if we just put the guy on the ground the half is over. I consider that a worse mistake than the scoop and score that put the game out of reach. Look, the better team won that day. Ohio State earned the victory. But acting as if the game was a blowout and dismissing anything Texas did well as something OSU was easily able to overcome is simple lunacy. I don't believe Ohio State will be able to run consistently on Texas fielding a light box with 6 defenders close to the line of scrimmage. I believe Texas will be able to field the safeties in umbrella coverage again. There's going to be tight windows in coverage just like there were last year. If Sayin can make those throws the way Howard did, more power to them. I do not believe that's going to be the case. I also think too much importance is being put on this game. I think it's natural, but to me the more important aspect for both teams is how much do they improve from this game to their next legitimate opponent - Washington for Ohio State and Florida for Texas. Both teams are going to have to improve to reach their season ending goals, and unlike 2005, this isn't an elimination game. It's an awesome barometer for both squads. But for entertainment purposes I'm hoping for a beatdown so I can watch the Ohio State fan base completely crumble. I also want to watch the rest of the games that day, and that's going to be difficult if I've smashed all my electronics watching a defeat.
  10. I don't think anyone would mind if Jerry paid him now. The question is why hasn't he? He's right that they won't win with or without him, but that doesn't have anything to do with him. It's because the owner is an idiot who paid top of the league money to a broken down QB, waited and had to pay top money to the #1 receiver, and runs an organization with absolutely shit culture that doesn't prioritize winning above all. Embarrassing. The only thing this franchise can hang it's hat on are accomplishments by people either dead or on social security. Why even bother replying to that? Roseman is the gold standard for NFL GMs and Jerry is the biggest piece of shit in the league.
  11. Now compare foreigners in American universities who stay American...no CR of course( why did you say it twice LOL) anecdotally, both of my DILs have their Masters. One has dual and working on a third while employed. One son has his, and the other will down the road almost certainly. Yeah for all the joking in here and potshots, quite often I'm the dumbest person in the room; I also don't have to pay someone to change a tire. but my retirement prospects are bolstered by the chil'ren.
  12. How old is Nahlin? I was under the impression from stuff he said that he's around 40. Mother fucker looks like he's pushing 60, that's some hard living if so.
  13. Shit-ton of action tonight. Boise at S. Fla (4:30 on ESPN) & Neb v. Cincy at Arrowhead (8 on ESPN) should probably have their own threads.
  14. I want to say more out of frustration in seeing this senseless death, but I have nothing. I read a good article on Defector this morning about this. I will post a gift link to it. This AI garbage that isn’t real AI is going to be the most toxic part of our society within a decade.

  19. Phil Fulmer, Lloyd Carr, Larry Coker, Gene Chizik, Les Miles, Jimbo Fisher. Orgeron is probably worse than all of those. Maybe Coker or Chizik are worse. It doesn't matter. All of those are mediocre head coaches, in my opinion. Coker, Chizik and Orgeron are flat out not good.
  20. Both my kids grew up in the PNW and stayed in the area for college, even though we made trips to UT and other places. Both are now in the EU working on grad degrees and I have no expectation that they will come back to the US. Youngest is working on a global public health degree in Germany and wants to focus on refugees. Oldest is in Spain getting a PhD in something about droughts, floods, and food supply. If they and their HS/undergrad friend group is any indication, there’s a definite brain drain going on. One friend is doing a PhD at Glasgow, another is looking to move to Denmark after finishing a residency, another is planning on doing Econ post-doc work in the UK, one is applying for biology grad programs in Germany, and several others are looking to make the move. Only one of the 12 or so is completely augured into the US. No Cloak, but did I mention they are all females? My PhD daughter gets a small stipend, but even without, tuition would be negligible and degree is only three years instead of fourβ€”mostly because they don’t make you teach or TA anything. MS daughter also gets a little break and has fortunate timing as this is apparently the last year for fed loans to grad students (or something). She’ll either hook up with an NGO or go get a PhD. FYI: in the US, three women get PhDs for every two guys and the gap widens every year. Smart women migrating within and outside of the US will have definite effects, many of which will be not good. Again, no Cloak Room, but we are repeatedly hitting ourselves in the nuts and it seems like we will continue to do so. Foreign universities may seem a non-starter to many right now, but that can change quickly, particularly as people do it, talk about it, and make it more visible and accepting.
  21. and what do we have to show for it? read his post again.
