Ian Boyd: How did Ohio State shut down Texas?

When in doubt always search for the dance team instead of cheerleaders (marginally better in this case). -

It’s part of his coaching style at this point. Passing up field goals in the first half to go for the conversions against the big name teams is frustrating. I don’t mind it against teams we “should” beat. Situationally, it’s first week of the season breaking in 4 OL and a new QB, so get the points knowing the defense is ahead of the offenses in week 1.

Shitty Arkansas defense did it to Texas
-
It was a bad Sark day. I think the first screen was in the second half to Wingo (maybe late 2Q). 2 targets to motion?? That is huge staple for Sark and his way to get easy throws to QBs. Just bad all around
-
Hey Arch, throw it like a spaz into the dirt here. Yeah great work bud

That was good stuff. Thanks for posting -
Signed, Epstein’s mother. Not “that” Epstein, this one: From the hit ABC comedy Welcome Back Kotter 1975-1979

Yep. I expect FL OU GA and KY to run similar schemes. The next 3 opponents don’t have the athleticism to execute it.
-
OSU blanketed Texas WRs for the most part. When there were open guys, Arch generally missed them. Even the explosive plays Texas got were hard. Endries and Livingstone big plays were big time throws and good contested catches. Compare that to the big plays by OSU. Tate had Guilbeau beat by probably 5 yards. Under throw is the only reason there was contact. Good news is OSU easily has a top 5 secondary, so not many will be able to do that
-
Let’s not discount that no one had film on Matt Patricia’s defense. This was the first time anyone lined up against them and no data on tendencies and fronts so disguised coverage was especially effective. We out gained OSU and had a better yards per play stat. If we play OSU after there’s a whole season of film, it will be a completely different story

Arch has a reason to get a Mulligan, Sark does not. This wasn't his first rodeo against a highly talented team. "After thinking about it I would've xxxxxx" is not good coaching.

It’s worked for quite awhile vs Texas. Take away the explosives and dare Texas to win running the ball. OSU ran a lot of what Georgia did to Texas.

Don't feel bad. That's probably a more difficult mountain to overcome than getting sark to unfuck his brain in the redzone.

I think there is zero fucking chance of that but I guess we'll see what OU does against Michigan. I'm also not worried about his mechanics. Mechanics aren't some static thing that has zero variation regardless of context. Arch looked nervous and played hurried up almost all game. I don't even think he was that bad - he played well enough for us to win or at least stay in the game up until the final whistle. He didn't play well enough to cover for some mistakes we made elsewhere - most notably the RZ playcalling. He's going to hang huge numbers against these next 3 teams then get another bite at the apple in the Swamp.
-
I wasn't as pissed at Sark for going for it as the play call. Arch may be bigger and stronger than Quinn, but he's not going to plow through 2 LB's set up behind the DT's. When is the last time Texas had an OL that could move a good DL off the ball when they can see what's coming? I certainly can't remember. You have to spread it out and hit the open gap. There will be a gap if you spread it out like OSU did, even if it's a small gap. Baxter can get 1 yard in a small gap. And analytics are stupid ass when what you do well against what the opponent does well aren't part of the formula.

Winning or tying the turnover battle? Or forcing one?

Forced/created? im on phone. -
It does not really matter to me since I had never heard of him until this week and I do not watch Big Noon. So fuck the OP for making his name front and center as I browse through threads on this board. Can we change the name of the thread name to "Big Noon is a show for douchés".
-
He said in an interview it was his goof.
-
This is false. We had open receivers on most plays but Arch either didn’t see them, threw too late, or threw really inaccurately. Even his few highlight throws were delivered despite bad mechanics. It’s really unsettling how bad every aspect of his throwing motion was on every pass and what was with the lack of touch on short passes? Dude just can’t complete an open drag route?
