Another interesting stat that puts him in a unique category.

Is this the end of shitty bowl games?
There should be at least 1 non-CFP bowl game every single day from December 15 to January 2, except for December 21, 25 and 28 (NFL) and December 20 (CFP home playoff games) That's 15 days for 36 non-CFP bowl games.

Surly kids who can't get into UT
Sweet! Congrats to your son!!! My daughter got about the same amount -- the Summit Scholarship. It's still not a cheap nonresident bill, but the scholarship has helped a ton. And her grades were high enough after the first year that she got a second scholarship, much smaller, but every bit helps. Also, Oregon offers a lot of employment opportunities on campus and is flexible around student schedules, in case your kid wants to make some money to help with the other incidental college expenses. @mdmost asked about distance. If your kid goes to school far away, one of the "hidden" costs can be transportation to and from home, and a lot of schools are located a good ways away from a major airport. Be sure to research that, since it's not an insignificant factor in terms of time and money. Eugene has a pretty good regional airport. Southwest does not have a direct flight from Austin to Eugene, but there's usually at least one or two decent one-stop flights per day, and the airfare and travel times are not crazy. There are also direct flights into Portland, and you can take the train to Eugene. It's maybe a 2.5 hour train ride. There's also the emotional component to distance -- is your kid going to be okay so far away from home, especially if he or she doesn't know anybody at the particular college? I've known a kid or two who went off to school half the country away and ended up transferring to UT or aggy after the first year. It can be a factor. Fortunately, my daughter had a few classmates from McCallum High go to Oregon, and she ended up bonding with a great group of friends from all over very quickly (one lives in Wimberly -- a lot of Texas kids go to Oregon), so the social adjustment wasn't an issue. One other issue for Oregon -- the weather. Yeah, it's gray for most of 4 months or so in the Fall/Winter time period, and being that much further north it gets darker much earlier during that time. It can be tough for a Texas kid used to an abundance of sunshine. But the rain in the Eugene area isn't terrible -- not a lot of heavy downpour like you can get in the Portland area. It's more of a constant drizzle. Students never carry umbrellas, so invest in a nice waterproof jacket. If you can gut through the rainy season, the April-September period is absolutely gorgeous. And even during the rainy season, there are several days here and there of bright blue skies (though still in the 40s or 50s). Overall the weather hasn't been a negative for my daughter. But my stepdaughter has already given a huge "NOPE" to Oregon because of the rain factor.

Jeffrey Epstein needs his own thread
Do we have the same in laws? It's the exact same thing with them - they act like they'd never vote for trump, but all their friends are MAGAs and their watch history is all fox news. I think they legit don't realize how far gone they are, but seeing his gay brother's marriage threatened I think is starting to cut through the fog

Is this the end of shitty bowl games?
My interest and viewing of sub-tier bowls has declined in recent years. At an emotional level it feels like there is a more complete disassociation with the top tier bowls, whereas previously there was an appetizer/main course feel to the whole bowl season.(yes, that is an individual emotional response not a practical analysis of historical bowl significance). That is compounded by the significant increase in opt-outs and also the scheduling(date and time) being so varied year to year. I’d also add there is probably some personal bandwidth limitations as I am not able to follow sports of all kinds as in depth as in my youth due to kids/work/family commitments.

Is this the end of shitty bowl games?
A 24 team playoff would bracket 9-24 and could be played the first week of December allowing the losers to still play in the other bowls. Otherwise the bowls want the matchups to be as competitive as possible, so ideally 13 v 14, 15 v 16, etc. They seem to come pretty close accounting for bowl tie ins and avoiding conference matchups.

I don't begrudge him either. I just prefer Godspower stick around.

Is this the end of shitty bowl games?
I understand Udoh's situation and never begrudged him for leaving. The thing the academies DO have to counter that is the value of their degree and the leadership experience from fulfilling that service commitment. That had to factor in at least a little bit in the original decision to attend, right? My Old Grad son and I were having this exact discussion during the game, and he suggested players might opt for NIL money and ROTC at the civilian schools. I wanted to throw up and start laughing at the same time. ROTC can get you there too, but if you're already at an academy, it would be a complete change of culture, without the equivalent support of athletic obligations being met "halfway" by the other entities at the civilian institutions. I don't see them leaving for NIL if military leadership is also on their heart.

London Met Police To Take on…..Freemasons?
"I furthermore promise and swear, that I will keep the secrets of a brother Master Mason when communicated to me as such. Murder and treason alone accepted, and these left at my option". Not saying' they did anything, not saying they didn't.

NFL Week 17; Christmas-style
This is big boy football. Rig 12 would’ve missed it then done a 15 min video review and discussion on was it a catch or not.

Is this the end of shitty bowl games?
I wish they would do a second bracket for the 13-24 teams. Not sure how you would incentivize it but I would be excited to watch it.

Everything is Shit: Tracking the Great Enshittening
Houston public water with no water softener, we go through CLR like crazy keeping the shower heads unclogged. Probably getting a softener installed in the near/medium term future. Honestly, just using the powder detergent instead of the puck (insert obligatory Technology Connections video on dishwashers) and putting in a pre-wash along with the main wash does a ton. Along with running the hot tap until hot comes out before starting the dishwasher, so the detergent is more effective

NFL Week 17; Christmas-style
Goddamnit Fox, shit like this pisses me off. They show the play with the announcers saying it’s a catch, and don’t show the replay and announcers changing their mind, because it very clearly was not a catch. I reallly wanted it to be to say I saw live maybe the best catch ever but it was not a catch. Social media people who didn’t watch live though and only see this are all over the Vegas conspiracy and “scripted” bullshit because the post is intentionally misleading. It also didn’t end the game dumbass there was another play after this one. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1DAXXVVqr4/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Godspower had the best run from scrimmage of the entire bowl season. Hope we keep him and he doesn't go the way of Kanye Udoh.

Tell Me About Texas a&m
Looking at single games (and really even single seasons) is never an intelligent way of judging the health of a program because very good to great programs will always have WTF games where they lose or look terrible in a win; and programs that are truly on the ropes pull off really great games all the time. This is doubly true in the SEC where nearly every roster is loaded with future NFL players and even sub-.500 teams are capable of playing like the blue chips they are. Kirby Smart delivered a L to a USCe team that went 4-8 under Muschamp in his fourth year (later lost to LSU in the SECCG). That game said very little about the health of either USCe or UGA as programs. At the time UGA fans were beginning to worry that Kirby was the next Richt, though (basically mirror images through four seasons) and games like that were a big reason why. The games at UK and MSU likewise say very little about the overall health and trajectory of either UT, MSU, or UK. You recognized this in your own post, and then came up with a reason why this sort of thing was really important for the team you don’t like but is not important for the team you cheer for. It’s kind of like when your first instinct on a test is correct but you talk yourself into a wrong answer. A&M avoided true upsets this year and was in a position to win every game they played in. Going from 8 to 11 wins is important and while some luck is involved it is not completely sufficient. That is a a change in trajectory while at the same time ugly familiar habits still popped up, especially down the stretch. That— along with things like recruiting success, and assistant decisions—of where a program is heading as well as the types of things that can really derail or stall it. Next year looks to be a much harder schedule but that is not guaranteed, new assistants will be calling plays, and the OL is going to need retooling. A 10 win regular season will be an indicator that the Elko plan is in a good place although fans will be furious.

- Transfer Cycle 2025-2026 - Shit In One Hand, Hope In the Other, Tell Us Which One Fills Up Faster
Yeah great point, just make the money unlimited and get Jeremiah Smith and Cam Coleman or we’re not all in! Let’s get Sam Leavitt in to back up Arch too. In any case, if this is the all in year, we probably don’t want to rely on a 155 lb true freshman. We were missing a burner with agility and quick twitch. That’s just an archetype we don’t have outside of Bishop.- Transfer Cycle 2025-2026 - Shit In One Hand, Hope In the Other, Tell Us Which One Fills Up Faster
All in does not mean an unlimited blank check. If you feel differently perhaps you can sponsor Cam Coleman yourself. - Transfer Cycle 2025-2026 - Shit In One Hand, Hope In the Other, Tell Us Which One Fills Up Faster
