  2. Joe Rogan will do anything for an audience.
  3. Gavin Newsom has earned an honorary Surly degree. Should we invite him to a tailgate at which we can bestow this honor?
  4. The criteria seem to be the top one or two in conference. Tennessee is the historic SEC#2 and should be on that list. The Vols were down for so long that many younger fans believed that UF or UGA had always been the 2nd best team. I get naming only one BB from the PAC and SWC since there was a logjam at the #2 slot. But the SEC only has one!?
  5. Counterpoint: you display notoriously poor judgement on which hills you’ll die on.
  6. Both New York teams come into today with 0.5 game leads for the last wild card spot over a team from Ohio.
  7. Title claims based on retroactive rankings are stupid and I will die on this hill. If no poll or system considered you the No. 1 team in the land at the end of the season (before or after bowl games), the matter is settled. Claiming the national title based on a ranking invented many years later is just a lazy attempt at rewriting history to your benefit. I guarantee you that if Sark makes it to the top of the mountain and wins a national title at some point, A&M will retroactively claim the 1917 national title to try and keep pace. It doesn't actually make that long-dead 1917 squad national champions. I would feel similarly if Texas ever attempted to claim the 1914, 1918 or 1920 teams as national champions. The 1941 team is a bit different because the Williamson system named us national champions at the time, but given that we didn't win the SWC that year I doubt we'd entertain claiming that season in this day and age.
  8. I always get those two confused.

A back nine 29 with a bogey seems fun
  10. Today
  11. Army is #17 in top 2.
  12. For the top-ranking dominance, here is the top 5 vs top 2 plot. Again, very good overlap with 21 teams being in at least one top 20 list. Texas A&M and Washington drop out and Army joins as the #20 in top 2 and #23 in top 5 (they are #60 in top 25). The top 3 really stand out here and the 5 of the remaining top 8 (blue bloods) are close to more recent top teams such as Miami and FSU.
  13. You just catching up there, dec3169? You realize this was a pretty big deal in the spring, right?
  14. I don't have any hot takes, but here's my guess on our starting lineup: Offense: QB - Arch Manning RB - Quintrevion Wisner WR - DeAndre Moore WR - Ryan Wingo WR - Emmett Mosley V (as an aside, how much pressure is there to name a son Emmett Mosley VI? How much pressure is there to have a son?) TE - Jack Endries RT - Brandon Baker RG - DJ Williams C - Cole Hutson LG - Neto Umeozulu LT - Trevor Goosby Defense: DE - Ethan Burke DT - Cole Brevard DT - Myraad Watson DE - Colin Simmons LB - Anthony Hill LB - Liona Lefau CB - Jaylon Guilbeau CB - Malik Muhammad Nickel - Michael Taaffe S - Derek Williams S- Jelani McDonald Special Teams: P - Jack Bouwmeester K: Mason Shipley PR: DeAndre Moore Touchback specialists - Wisner/Ryan Niblett No inside skinny. Just making a guess based on the practice reports widely available. I'm guessing these will be the lineups for the first snap against Ohio State. I know things can change in all kinds of ways. For one thing, this might not be the personnel grouping taking the field. This is also not a prediction for who gets the most snaps. Oh, it looks like they edited it out, but right as he was leaving his media availability, CJ Baxter turned to the media and said, "I see you @Red Five Thanks for having my back. And check out Surlyhorns.com . Best Longhorn forum out there." I'm guessing there was some NIL involved. Probably big bucks.
  15. First thing I thought of when I saw that.
  16. Why are we punishing Ireland with this game?
  17. I hate our Michael Buffer wannabe PA person so so much. I realize that's not what I should be getting from this clip, but I cannot help it.
  18. Jessie Misskelley and the West Memphis Three say πŸ‘‹ another one that will never be solved πŸ™ i had a Texas writing component class in 96 or so and for my final paper i focused on Texas' violent image...historical stuff (revolution/war, rangers v. Comanche, servant girl murders, Kennedy assassination, etc.) but then brought it very current with Kenneth McDuff, Branch Davidians, and these murders. Dan Rather had done a 48 Hours episode dedicated to the murders, i actually wrote to CBS studios and got a VHS copy of the episode, i believe it cost me $16. what a world. πŸ˜•
  19. Goddamn just watched the last two episodes and it’s so fucking good lol! I knew Artemis lost weight and the reference of her unrecognizable as Frank was great. The monologue was haunting, classic Dennis. I’m enjoying the shit out of this season.

  23. Apparently Hegseth supports the notion of repealing the 19th Amendment. β˜†β˜…β˜†β˜…β˜†β˜…β˜†β˜…β˜†β˜… "...days after he reposted a video on X of a pastor advocating repealing the right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution." https://www.reuters.com/world/us/hegseth-supports-womens-right-vote-pentagon-says-despite-his-having-reposted-2025-08-14/
  24. Select as many variables as you want, then flatten the data to two dimensions with PCA and use something like k-means to cluster the schools around centroids. I suspect the result will look a lot like the AP overall vs. AP top 5 graph
  25. Weekly hand therapist appointment. She didn't like the possible swelling & marked dots on my hand aroundtheperimeter + we took pics (measured) to compare for next week. Said to NOT (warm water) soak & scrub / vitamin E application until we see if there is any return infection.
