The Handmaid’s Tale - Season 3

Recommended Posts

Oh and Luke left his stupid Trapper Keeper in the room with Fred.

Seriously, I’m no writer but even I came up with the perfect comeback for Luke after Fred asked him what he was doing to make the world better when the birth rate was declining -

“I made an actual baby. And you?”

I’m growing to hate it because the showrunners have taken one of my favorite books - and a milestone in feminist literature - and turned it into a comic book.

Season one was fantastic. And when they ran out of Margaret Atwood’s material, they shit the bed.

And I’ll watch what I like and complain about what I like.

ok so dumb plot question - and I admit i have not been paying very close attention this season as the show has almost lost me but i've continued b/c i feel committed at this point:

did serena set fred up and the help arrange their capture (working with the canadian guy behind the scenes), or did she flip on fred once they were already captured and separated (we've got you now, you are going to jail forever but we can release you and get you time with the baby if you flip on fred now)?

Set him up as a condition of getting to see Nicole again. She said something to the effect of "you have to give them something" when she was discussing with Fred about meeting the American. Luke and Moira go along with it as capturing Fred gives them a sense of justice.

God. That airplane hanger scene was a kick to the nuts. Got so dusty.

That was an arduous and tedious journey to a good season finale.

and once again, june is still in gilead.

also weirdly not much mention of hannah at all.  figured she would be a focal point of the roundup.

fred’s story is interesting, but kinda shocked it worked.

s2 and s3 could’ve been one season. and now i guess june will spend next season as some sort of cult hero. not sure how she stays off the wall.

Guessing she doesn’t know where Hannah is yet after the family moved.

No, season 4 will be the quest for Hannah. But not until after a swim through the Colonies as Gilead for some reason won't just kill June. She'll go to the colonies and somehow her mother will still be alive so we'll have that reunion.

It was an enjoyable episode with a nice payoff for some of the characters. Not sure where they can go with the Waterfords other than some clandestine effort springs them from Canada. Maybe the Americans start going into Gilead to get people out. I was hoping a bit of some way for them to move June to a Harriet Tubman type role where she creates a system to get people out.

Next season will be her finding out where hannah is and getting sent to a real bastard of a commander to continue the torture porn.

Also, it looked like she was shot in the side, but I wouldn't be surprised if they decide it fucked up the ol baby factory.

Then they REALLY would have no excuse for her continuing to live.

Binged the entire season in 3 days.

- really sick of the Waterfords

- thought bringing in Detective Stabler was a good move...almost thought they were going for a gay angle when he was playing pool with Fred (that was just an odd way to do a bro pat)

- wanted to see the “takeover” of Chicago

- really wanted to see what Lips did to get her lips all ringed up and whatnot.  Like damn.

- token Asian Commander and wife at that baptism ceremony or whatever it was

- so my take on the Aunt Lydia backstory—she was always a loving, Christian woman who I really think loved kids.  When the mom was putting makeup on her and talking to her, I think it got Lydia to relax a bit and get a glimpse of maybe meeting someone and being happy with a partner and family of her own.  That happened with the principal, but Lydia when in hot and the principal backed off.  I took it as Lydia being angry at herself for being “foolish” in thinking that it would work and that her not finding anyone is a punishment from God for doing what she did.  So that’s why she’s okay doing what she’s doing.  (And the teacher angle...as if she’s teaching the handmaid’s)

- it’s season 3, but I still think of Serena in the tv series “Chuck” and liked that character way better.  I knew Fred had a card to play so she wouldn’t get off that easy, so the question is is that the end of their storyline or not.  I’m praying it is.

- Like others, I wanted to see more of the political side and how they take over cities.  I’m also curious if/when they wrap up this entire series if there will be episodes dedicated to taking back the USA.

- When the kids stepped off the plane, two things happened—1.) I cried.  2.) I immediately thought they looked like they came from the Waco compound with David Koresh.

- Sigh, June goes back again.  How she escapes the wall is beyond me (well she’s the main character so she won’t die, but still)

- Really hoping lesbian handmaid and her parter get back together!

My wife picked this show for us to watch last week. God, I fucking hate this fucking show. On S2S3 and hopefully we can get through the rest of this shitfest in the next week.   I'm making her watch Letterkenny next.

If you really want to punish her, make her watch Catch-22 on Hulu.  There's a chance she might enjoy Letterkenny.

After thinking about it, I wonder if the kids who "escaped" would really be so happy to go along with it. Children adapt to where they are. I don't think the children of Gilead are abused or anything, so taking them from their fake families would likely be as traumatic as taking them from their real families.

June telling the one girl that she can wear what she wants to in the new world and "be you" is pretty abstract for a kid. I think it would have interesting and more dramatic had the children started bawling when the plane's door opened.

Oh well.

If the kids are old enough to remember the old days, they'll be good with getting out, especially if they were ripped away from their parents.
