  1. I put a shootout on the Katy together at Athena a few months back for a friend with terminal cancer. It was awesome. We had a small arsenal of handguns and modern sporting rifles. My buddy hadn't shot his pistol in a few years out of concern for his chemo port. He proudly hung his target on the fridge for the remaining three months of his life. RIP Sarge
  2. It's cool enough I made it's own thread but
  3. Nosferatu - perhaps the greatest cinematic expression of Dracula mythology to date The Brutalist - Act 1 great, act 2 drags, epilogue is meh. Give Adrien Brody the oscar tho
  4. my favorite Robbie Williams story is when he had already obtained ultra-mega star level in UK/Europe, and then they booked him to play Club de Ville at SXSW in the early aughts. They did not have tea for him and he was nonplussed. Was unaware of the existence of Take That until Derry Girls

  6. took the doe I shot opening day to Longhorn Smokehouse in Manvel for boudin. Had some this weekend at the ranch and it was a big hit all around. Highly recommended if you're local to Houston. They also turned it around in less than a week.
  7. this is the first year in a long time I haven't made eggnog for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mrs. Laz and I have, as a result, been doing our own ad-hoc Nogsmas across Houston. So far, we've nogged at Nonno's, Julep, BLT, and Lei Low. BLT has the best traditional nog. Thick and boozy. Available to go for $38/bottle and suitable for aging. We brought one home for when we need a fix Nonno's and Julep were both good, if a little thin for my liking. Julep's Christmas wonderland decor is worth visiting it if you're into that kind of thing. Lei Low in a class of its own. They have the Coquito as per usual, but this year they've added the Coconog Flip, which was amazing. A boozy christmas milkshake. 10/10 would smash again. Mahalo
  8. People always forget the well-regulated militia

  10. you didn't tell me you were a weirding woman
  11. This dude pulled in while I was picking up my boudin from Lonestar Smokehouse in Manvel. Had a nice truck too. Busy weekend at wherever
  12. Beev-Hole. Surly Beev-Hole
  13. Holosun 507c needs to be incoming
  14. Watched that shortly after the "Attack on Hard Rock" during the Copa America final. I am a pretty big soccer fan, and I didn't remember anything about Wembley. Interesting parallels, these
  15. this is a good one also check out Generasian Radio https://www.youtube.com/@GenerasianRadio
  16. Avett Brothers last night at Smart Financial Center in Sugar Land. First time to that venue and I was impressed. Tickets were center stage in the very back row and the sound was fantastic. One of the best TAB shows we've seen. Going to NYC to see Swept Away next month...
  17. I think I got most of that through teh aids. I was planning on buying the vanguard-specific rings from Talley. Are you saying don't do that?
  18. Swaro z3 3-10 x 42. It's going on a WB vanguard .308. Carters Country has the Leupold VX3 3-10.5 for $399 until 11/2, so I have been waffling back and forth between that, trijicon huron/credo/accupoint, and the swaro. They had Zeiss V4 for $650 recently but that sale expired last week. Kind of stuck in analysis paralysis as to eye relief, bolt handle clearance on the eyepiece, ring height right now. I figure the swaro is right about 1:1 on the rifle/optic ratio, so might as well. This will primarily be a whitetail and hog rifle with shots within 200 yards, so I want something simple and don't need to mess with dialing on this rig.
  19. I think I've seen it mentioned upthread, but who do we like for gunsmithery in Houston? I'm thinking about getting a little spendy on an optic for new deer rifle and if so, would be looking to get it professionally mounted. I've done my other scopes myself with a plastic level and flashlight-though-objective technique, but I want this one done proper like.
  20. I've got a sightmark wraith that was around $400 I think? I've taken it out a few times and it is good out to about 100 yds with the stock IR illuminator. It would be better with an upgraded illuminator like the coyote cannon or similar. I didn't want to make the full thermal investment for as little as I am able to get out at night, and so far it's served its purpose. It's a bit of a pain to have to deal with the separate illuminator, and follow up shots are impossible as the smoke from the shot reflects the IR and washes out the picture. With a little more in the budget, I'd go thermal, especially as the prices continue to come down
  21. best option is fly into LGA, uber to White Bear in Flushing for ~$15, crush two orders of Szechuan wontons, LIRR to Penn $11
