Scrimmage No. 2 Takeaways
***
• It was a much cleaner day for the offense. Across all three teams, there was only one turnover, which was on a bobbled exchange from the center and quarterback.
• The offense moved the ball much better, and quicker than a week ago as well. By all accounts, the offense won the day.
• Still, the defense had some success in the red zone against the offense.
• The field goal unit was much improved this week as well. Will Stone handled the kickoff duties.
• OT Jaydon Chatman was the first tackle on the field, over Nick Brooks, when Trevor Goosby left the scrimmage.
• RB CJ Baxter continues to increase his workload. When speaking with Steve Sarkisian post-scrimmage, it sounds like the training wheels are coming off and the Longhorns will be seeing much more of Baxter on the field to begin the season than anticipated.
Sark referenced the RB position as "1A and 1B" rather than a first and second string approach with Baxter and Wisner.
• Freshman QB KJ Lacey received some run with the first unit in a 2-minute drill in which he moved the ball very efficiently. The offense ended up making the field goal.
• EDGE Colin Simmons "Dominated per usual" according to a source.
• There still remains no sign of freshman DB Jonah Williams on the field for fall camp. We might not be there yet, but at some point the long-term health conversation may come in to play here.
Individual Moments
• Freshman WR Kaliq Lockett was on the receiving end of a double-move conversion on 4th down with the first team offense.
• DL Alex January was credited with a blocked field goal.
• WR Parker Livingstone had a handful of big gains through the air today.

Tackling vs. Deeper Playbook
Texas missed more tackles in scrimmage two than they did in scrimmage one. With a smaller crowd of onlookers, the bag of offensive play calls increased and as a result, the Longhorns were able to dial up some looks that otherwise be left tucked away with onlookers present.
As a result, it was a strong day for the wide receivers. Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore, Parker Livingstone, Daylan McCutcheon and Kaliq Lockett were all mentioned as guys with strong performances.

Malik Muhammad
This was a big takeaway for me today.
The Texas offense attacked Malik Muhammad this afternoon, all of which by design. Whether it be Livingstone, Wingo, Lockett or name a receiver, Texas was pushing the envelop on the 3rd-year cornerback and Muhammad stood tall.
From what I understood, the idea was to instill the confidence of a true CB1, especially with the tall task of Jeremiah Smith looming on August 30. Muhammad withstood the final test he will see in fall camp and did so with high remarks.
Really solid day for the Longhorn corner.
