  1. I think there’s a misunderstanding of how GOP politics tends to operate. They aren’t trying to use vouchers to improve education. At least in Texas, it’s an intermediate step on the way to use public funds for private religious schools and the proof that you only need a couple of committed west Texas billionaires to run a state.
  2. I think the economics of this are changing and it’s not settled. If Sydir Mitchell, for example, requires $250k annually to retain and doesn’t contribute until his fourth in the program, that’s basically $1m for a stud DT in the portal (presuming that’s available). I know it’s not that simple and there’s very much an appeal to bird in hand, I just don’t think we can predict with any confidence the best practice yet. Worse, each position is likely different (for example, I think pulling offensive lineman from the portal is clearly inferior to developing them, yet that’s because there’s so much continuity required in that position group).
  3. Yeah, I don’t know why that poster says it likes it’s a bad thing. Add to that the Kwiatkowski defense has a long history of using a LB/big safety hybrid effectively.
  4. Backlash from whom? Have you seen the voting patterns in Austin? My neighborhood went something like 75%-80% for Harris. The GOP gave up on earning votes from here 20 years ago. Even prior to that, Austin was “the people’s republic” for the majority of voters.
  5. If he ends up being that good at baseball it’ll be because he’s focusing on it at the detriment to football training, in which case he’s likely buried on the depth chart anyway. it does look like early playing time at LB will be a selling point for the ‘26 class.
  6. Eh, I will be shocked if Jonah Williams doesn’t end up at LB.
  7. I feel the same-I’m pro-Michigan to the extent that it’s not hindering excellence at The University and fucks over those couch terrorists in Ohio.
  8. @Crayon1973 is going to kill you in your sleep.
  9. I know the aesthetic here is kind of Hayes Fawcett’s thing, but Elko looks like he just came down from the mountains with severe frostburn and the kid’s as orange as an Oompa Loompa.
  10. This is why I only very reluctantly make referrals to insurers. When they are non communicative and a borrower complains to me about it I feel like Crash Davis shouting after the batter “I give you a gift and you stand here showing up my pitcher? Run, dummy!”
  11. I would love to switch out of Farmers because somehow we got signed up with some agent in Missouri City that we have zero connection with, but it’s just been cheaper than everyone else and we’ve been shopping for the last two years. We’ve got 1% wind/hail deductibles on our houses and that seems to be unavailable on new policies, too.
  12. This is probably upthread but an Alamo hack is to buy the $100 gift card packages at Costco (cost $75). It’s like going back in time to 2014 ticket/food prices with the 25% reduction.
  13. Looks like two pears in a pod…
  14. Well shoot, he was my Hayden Conner replacement for guard who needs SPF 80 before going outside.
  15. I would argue that this dovetails with the economic argument and that the Dems didn’t tell a good story on this in 2024. Too many voters decided THEY were the vulnerable population and the Democrats didn’t sufficiently reassure them that their distress was a priority.
  16. I just presumed that’s Banks since TE’s alternate between receiving and lineman drills.
  17. I’m again trying to read tea leaves, but if you think that retention is going to be expensive, and that depth is the difference maker between teams like Texas and A&M, then that argues for spreading the money around on a greater quantity of lower profile transfers than the Walter Nolan’s of the world. 10 is the under, especially with scholarship limits poised to increase.
  18. Well, in support of your argument (and as a rebuttal against mine), there’s likely donor fatigue all around the big schools and a transfer DT from the Big 12 isn’t likely to have a lot of appeal as a promotional partner to someone like Lamborghini Austin.
  19. If what @closetojumping and others have speculated regarding Harris is accurate, that’s a title in name only and Sark is the real GM. My point is that’s not a model that tends to work outside of a hall of fame type career, and even then it’s questionable.
  20. That’s got to be coming-the stakes are getting too high and schools will need to follow the NFL front office model and then some, particularly since you have to so many more players for transfer candidates plus expanded high school as recruiting becomes less regional for the top 20 or 30 schools.
  21. Yes, but only in Silo 18. Each is independently run, like the Fallout bunkers. That said, I think the show has alluded (or made explicit) that the head of IT can communicate with the other Silos. Which, and here’s a hairy ass prediction for you, is what George was about to discover. If they can communicate with other another then it’s presumably buried fiber optic. And if they dug that deep then perhaps there’s a tunnel beneath maintenance that connects the Silos to one another. Perhaps coordinating the other silos and/or reviving old drilling technology is what allows them to tunnel out of the irradiated zone. One other thought-the transmission bandwidth in the radiation suit camera seemed pretty good considering there wasn’t a transmission tower nearby to transmit signals. I wonder if that’s indicative of satellite communication.
  22. That was my thought, too. Looks like a similar body type to Lance Jackson. I thought the Kwiatkowski defense tended to favor a bigger (more lengthy) DE paired with one a little more fast twitch on the other side. I’m thinking that the floor has gone up, if not the ceiling. Fifth year veterans like Bill Norton probably offer better 2026 value than all but the most elite high school prospects.
  23. A fact likely not lost on any other school paying attention. It’s going to be much more expensive to add DT depth this coming cycle.
  24. Looks like a McLane/Purpura signing. Maybe we can follow-up with a former Mets All-Star from ten years ago and/or someone with Texas ties willing to accept the veterans minimum because their fastball can’t break glass.
  25. Something else to consider is that the transfer portal has made the risk/reward for the athlete totally different. If you’re trying to maximize NIL commitments and, say A&M, makes an offer you can’t refuse, now it’s comparatively painless to transfer to your second choice later. TL:DR- a lot of high school athletes will make the decision based on NIL. Transfers are probably more focused on depth chart and talent development (presumably because they are looking to upgrade on wherever they started, or in Bear Alexander’s case, where they ended up).
