  1. charity talk not going away…. Can anyone tell me what the wind status is in the Encino area? Is it going east or going west?
  2. “You’re thinking of the place all wrong, as if I have the rubles here at the bank in a safe. The money’s not here. Your money’s in Joe Stalin’s house… and a hundred others. You’re lending them the money to build and then they’re going to pay it back to you the best they can at the end of the special operation.”
  3. I bought my home about 35 years ago, and at the time the current owner had blown cellulose insulation in my attic that was as high as the framing, but now has compressed to about half the height. it has been suggested that I buy bags of cellulose and add to the top of the current insulation until it reaches the top of the framing, put unfazed corning blanket insulation crosswise over that. Someone else suggested, renting the giant vacuum and sucking out the old cellulose and relaying the pink blankets between the frames as if it were a new installation. As I have a case of the olds, I will not be living there more than 10 years, so I am looking to do something that will increase the resale value - or at least not be seen as a deficit by a potential buyer - and yet not cost me a fortune as I won’t be living that long. I would appreciate any advice from people who are in that business. My son just moved in for various financial reasons, and so I intend to use him as slave labor for as much as this as possible - and I had the notion that the winter was the perfect time to mess with this
  4. yeah, I’m hoping that the Sherman Oaks and Encino areas get winds from the east or northeast.
  5. I’m assuming you’re meaning the banging, not the deliberation…
  6. Can anyone verify that the Santa Ana wins today are blowing west rather than east? I’ll hang up and listen. Or fap. Or both.
  7. “…. from Hell‘s heart I pump at Thee!”
  8. And if it snows that stretch down south won’t ever stand the strain
  9. yeah, my relative is not going to Amazon/MacGyver this - or be home when it goes on. For a couple grand you can get one of the EcoFlow battery sources to power it, and I’m sure there are pumps with various flavors of output that could work. They have crushed white rock that is layered over the top of a tar substance on their roof. They are already planning to remove the rock, put down some sort of fire retardant surface over the existing roof and then lay another layer of rock on top of that. if the Santa Ana winds don’t blow east today that is. There are a couple thousand feet from the evacuation zone. They are fortunate enough to have a paid off seven figure home, so the cost of the system would not be a problem if it works. Their thinking is that even if it doesn’t 100% protect them, it will be a great selling point for the next purchaser, as it is a multiple level home on a hill and they are getting older and are looking for a one level home in the next five years or so. They have a first world problem for sure, and have been spared the tragedies so many of their neighbors and friends have suffered. They are currently making it rain $$$$ on the local SPCA.
  10. My relative in Van Nuys has a nice size pool, and is looking into purchasing a system where water is pumped from the 20,000 gallon pool onto the house and the largest trees nearest the house. I assume if you can get enough volume of water on an area then the incredibly fast speed of the fire, consuming and moving on, can wind up being your friend as it passes by.
  11. Well. Walk without rhythm, and it won’t attract the worm.
  12. I would like to see the defense of the guy who dressed up like a fireman in order to loot some houses ”Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, who among us has not engaged in cosplay because of our admiration for the heroes defending our cities? While my client is not a fireman, wearing the fireman outfit created a strong desire to see if fire was still smoldering in that home - and if so, could he put it out? The large sack he was also caring was only his effort to bring a dignified burial to any deceased pet he ran across. And for this, he has been arrested and is now on trial. I thought this was America?”
  13. they will likely try to launch a peremptory strike
  14. You want to get in first, real estate wise, if you hear about a new town named, “Branson, Greenland”
  15. well, I guess we can conclude with some confidence that a total loss of AC power means that both engines were not working four minutes before the crash
  16. Bolverk with the thread jack…
  17. if you’ve ever received oral sex from a hot Sami chick while lying on reindeer hides on the floor of her Lavvu - with the smell of dried salmon and trapped sable and mink furs permeating the air, you would strike it off your list too, True, my balls getting bitten off was not an optimal end to the date.
  18. Which is why he wants to join the Trump administration and the rest of the He-Man Woman Haters Club
  19. Totally smothered the wins, even. That would be about the worst way to die. It would rank right up there with curious shark encounter leading to feeding frenzy.
  20. Well, i’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain. Parliament poop so much, I thought it would never end…
  21. like most evaluations, the pricing should consider the number of users over a time Period. If it cost $1 billion to bring the drug to market, then charging $1000 per treatment for the 100 patients who use the drug once a year to cure the very rare disease is unreasonable. in fact, under that scenario, I very much doubt they would approve the $1 billion effort in the first place. On the other hand, if the drug will be sold to 1 million people who will use the drug monthly - and be charged the same $1000 - a $1000 retail price would be unconscionable. naturally, the problem is thinking that a blockbuster billion dollar earning drug will result in voluntary price reduction once it becomes a blockbuster. That could be seen as a violation of the board’s fiduciary duty to the shareholders. if they have to choose between shareholders and patients, they will always fuck the patients. It’s a feature not a bug.
  22. There is usually more things wrong with my post than spelling
  23. I will trade your loss to Ohio State to get in the championship game for our win over Tulane in a bowl whose name I can’t remember. It must be like women and childbirth - the pain of numerous sucky seasons is instantly forgotten once your team gets its act together and is good again and close to championships. if Sark continues recruiting like he has, the occasional bad play calling won’t matter because your Jimmy’s and Joe’s will overwhelm the opposition.
  24. every state has different laws which gives their insurance commissioners different powers to control things like premium prices and ability to cancel policies. My gut reaction is to make a claim because that is exactly what you’ve been paying for - to compensate you when an event like this happened. And as a practical matter, if your insurer is thinking of bailing, you might as well make your claim before they do as you would need to find a policy with another company anyway. But on the main, your insurer cannot cancel you because you made a legitimate claim with an undeniably recognized insurable threat and no fraud was involved. Plus, I would just assume that California has more consumer laws than other states.
