  1. The sky is falling! This game was lost on riverboat gambling and a team that didn’t nut up and get it done when they needed to. The defense failed consistently on 4th down and they needed every one of those to pull the game out. One of those was a 4th and 6 from midfield where Donovan smith made DMo look silly in a phone booth. They consistently got the “want to” yards and we didn’t. They also won the turnover battle by 2. All that and they ran 40 more plays than us? And we still had a chance to win late despite all that. This game will test the team’s leadership and hopefully challenge the defense to get their shit together.

    Hudson Card

Outside runs got stonewalled, outleveraged, or penetrated fairly consistently in the 2nd half. You don't want to run a screen into shallow coverage. High risk/low reward
  3. keep fucking that chicken bud. We lost our senior guard to injury before the season even started. Hutson should have been depth this year. Conner hasn't been great but Angilau likely would have been at least as good as him. You're saying we should have brought in some random starter quality OL to come here as depth? Seems legit. Maybe we could get Eli Manning to walk onto our team too. This team looks different with a QB that has pocket presence and can threaten every part of the field. The known issues of the team are having a greater impact due to injury.

    Hudson Card

So the deep shots are what the defense is giving you, are something this offense majors in, but you say no to that, cool. They are loading the box with their coverage by default to further help the run against an OL that struggles to run block against honest fronts. Throwing into the flats doesn't work if they are already covering shallow. So I guess you're saying we should consistently throw into coverage then. Sounds like a winner.

    Hudson Card

We had to take deep shots because of the way they were covering. The idea there is that they will back off of their shallow coverage. They didn't, and it probably even reinforced the idea

    Hudson Card

Tech was living around the LOS and muddying up much of the 5-15 yard area. Card definitely doesn't trust his arm enough to throw into tight windows, he has to see it clearly before pulling the trigger. We also weren't getting consistent protection to challenge deep, and Tech's slow DBs were keeping stride with everyone downfield not named Worthy.
  7. Is Jalon Daniels going to sign with Nebraska too? He's the difference maker there. Same guy who burned us badly last year.
  8. The team morale is different with Ewers at QB. The team rallies around him like they rallied around Donovan Smith today. We were a 10 win team after showing well against Bama, and now we're a 3 win team after an OT loss on the road against Tech. We were a 8-9 win team if healthy, Bijan is clearly hurt and playing tentatively, we lost Neyor and Angilau, we lost our high level starting QB, and now Worthy is hurt. I know we say next man up, but that's some bad injury luck. This team looked like a 5 win team in the 2nd half tonight.
  9. They actually blitzed on the big run in OT and our guys vacated a gap IIRC. But we should have been pressuring much more throughout the game.
  10. When you have Bijan/Rojo, running on 3rd and 8 isn't necessarily handcuffing. Expecting Card to convert 3rd and 6+ with any consistency is a recipe for failure. The offense was falling apart on 1st and 2nd down due to penetration and stonewalls.
  11. I don't see the handcuffing. Card just isn't that good. He wasn't horrible in this game, but he wasn't better than Donovan Smith at all. Smith was dealing out there.
  12. Aren't you an SMU guy? Our DBs lack ball skills, but leaving them out to dry would work better than this death by a thousand cuts thing. Our guys were missing tackles and getting ran over on others like last year too. Brought their hats and left the cattle. PK should have dialed up more pressure and lived with it. Sark needs to make a move there ASAP. This is similar to the Charlie Strong "new offense" under Shawn Watson. Same old shit for the most part. Guys aren't playing close coverage consistently and the DL isn't getting much pressure either.
  13. Card was trash. Made more plays than usual, but pretty trash in general. On offense, the OL lost this game. Couldn't run block consistently, couldn't pass protect much either.
  14. Our guys didn't always do positive things on blitzes, but more positive things happened with pressure than they did when we sat back in coverage. Can;t believe we didn't pressure more. That's on PK all the way. Offense put up 31 and that should have been enough, but the defense didn't step the fuck up on a player or coach level. How many times did we see their guys get 2-3 yards after the initial tackle attempt if not completely break free? On the flip side, they tackled us much more solidly as the game went on. Full team failure, PK needs to be held accountable for the lack of pressure employed. Made this guy look like fucking Tom Brady.
  15. We get held on blitzes and nothing ever gets called.
  16. Tech is putting 7-8 in the box on most downs.
  17. These plays would look a lot better with a better QB. Card isn't seeing the options the defense brings. The OL can't block with any real consistency either. Not sure what plays can be called when Tech is getting all kinds of penetration and we aren't punishing them for it even with people wide open.
  18. Our guys played their asses off against Bama, but they cant stop Donovan Smith.
  19. players not making plays even when put in position
  20. We need to pressure Smith into mistakes. He isn't just going to give them to us like we thought. Gotta sustain a drive here.
  21. I like the play call, but you gotta be able to motion out of it to account for stacked boxes. You can't run that play without having a solid numbers advantage.
  22. Good things happen = GP Bad things happen = PK These guys aren't playing through contact. They need to stop being so finesse focused.
  23. That was a perfect throw for that situation. Card barely had his feet and still got it all the way there for a TD.
  24. Hudson Card turning the ball over is one of the main ways we lose this game. Badly underthrown when Cain had a step. He couldn't even try to break up the pass. If Ewers is even 60%, he's gotta give it a go.
  25. This feels a lot like the UTSA game. We're gonna establish the run, and hopefully find some rhythm there. The defense has to play more aggressively. They are thinking too much and making mistakes or giving up more than they should, at least if they play aggressively they will make plays some of the time.
