  1. Ell O fucking Ell. "We stole him right out from under their noses. Kirby's all about culture. He's coming here because he is one of us!" One, week, later... He's not one of us. He only visited once. He was probably going to go somewhere else anyway.
  2. Graham Norton is the tits. That's a fun show to watch.
  3. Ha! John Wick as a metahuman. Might not have been a bad movie if it were sold that way! Agreed. Cavill's Superman in the Snyder cut of JL was so much better as a character, than in all of the other movies. He was finally who I'd wanted him to be, all along. Or at least a lot closer.
  4. I didn't hate the Snyderverse and I actually thought the Snyder cut of Justice League turned it into a solid, coherent, entertaining movie. It just wasn't very FUN. And MoS and BvS weren't very fun. Superman 1978 was fun. Batman 1989 was fun. And this new Superman movie is fun. I'm really excited to see what Gunn and the DC crew can do with a new DCU. I want to see Batman in this world, with Gunn's vision. I already love what I've seen of Green Lantern and Mr. Terrific. I want to see where else he can take us.
  5. PINS last week
  6. By far my favorite Coen Bros. movie.
  7. Still have yet to break 100 at my house in NW Travis. If the below holds true, it won't have broken 100 so far this entire year, all the way into August. I can't recall that ever happening before.
  8. Might be true, but as I vaguely recall Mackovic's offset language included media gigs. He got paid some paltry sum from ESPN for a hot minute, and we got to pay him slightly less.
  9. Many coaching contracts are written such that the buyout is offset by whatever amount the former coach earns doing another job. But not aggie contracts, no sir. They are 100% guar-an-teed!
  10. Sweetwater Oyster Bar in Cedar Park has an 11-6 happy hour Mon -Sat, with $1 gulf oysters and $3 east coast oysters. Limit is 1 dozen per person on the gulf oysters. https://sweetwateroysterbar.com/
  11. FAFO. If you think Russia is so grand, put your money where your mouth is and move there. This guy's a hero and should be commended. Everyone who agrees with him should follow his lead and do the same.
  12. Hobbits like to get high on weed, it's the orcs that love their vodka.
  13. Mr. Terrific was great. And I loved the quick glimpse we caught of the exterior of the Justice Gang's Hall of Justice.
  14. Anyway I'm good with trailers. I like to know what's coming and I like to see the previews in full sound and glory on the big screen. I don't like pre-movie commercials, straight up product advertisements. And none of the Alamo Drafthouse locations I've ever been to, have shown those (aside from promoting their own theaters/merch that is).
  15. Yeah my 15yo son had similar issues, until he got his first girlfriend right at the end of the schoolyear. Now he's gaming a lot less and he's become a workout fiend (dad, I actually have ABS, check this out!). Also, he now showers daily and brushes his teeth at least 3x per day! Just a maturity issue for him, and he's finally coming around.
  16. Wow the ags are jumping right into decommit season a little earlier than normal this year.
  17. In a strange coincidence, there was also a Mr. Gatti's there at Rockwood and Anderson Lane.
  18. Reed's not as much of a problem as their mysterious o-line which should be good but is continuously shitty.
  19. My now-senior wouldn't even talk to us about any type of major or any potential college until January or February. She was paralyzed with fear because she had no clue what she might want to do, and couldn't imagine herself in a college environment and so wouldn't allow herself to even think about it. We finally just took her on a couple of campus visits and that's when she could finally see herself on a campus as a college student, and it has opened her up to some possibilities. Tough part for me is, she's going to be auto-admit to UT but for various reasons she doesn't really want to go to there. So I find myself on this thread looking at other options.
  20. Yeah for mine, she actually took two dual credit courses from ACC in the first summer session, so I definitely give her some leeway there. Still, it only gets more busy from here through the end of marching season in November. But she's made the bed and she'll have to lie in it.
  21. This seems like it might be true if your kid wants to be a marching band director someday, but I don't think jj was referring to that specific case, just pointing out in general that the marching arts in college, are at a much lower level than they are at competitive high schools. Also, if your kid wants specifically to be a marching band director and not just a music educator, then participating in DCI is probably more important than whatever college marching band they end up in. My kids are in the best 5A marching band in the state (won the state title 6x in a row now) and all of the directors have DCI experience.
  22. It's a lot of work but also extremely rewarding. I've gotten to experience being on the field and contributing, as the band has won UIL State, been highly competitive at BOA-San Antonio, and also finished 5th in the entire country at the BOA Grand Nationals in Indianapolis. It's a pretty great feeling and getting to share at least a little of it with the kids is quite satisfying. My high school marching band was pretty crappy, so getting some of that vicariously, is also a bit of a thrill, I'm not gonna lie.
  23. I do "pit pack" for our kids' high school marching band, including being around for some of the in-week rehearsals, and all of the football games and competitions. We load and unload a full semi trailer full of instruments, and usually two 24' box trucks full of props, for every performance. On a BOA or UIL competition day, we might load/unload 4 times in a single day, if the schedule works out so that the band can get to an offsite stadium for an extra rehearsal in-between morning prelims and evening finals. It's brutal.
  24. As others have pointed out, the commitment in college band is much lower than in high school marching band, especially high school band in the state of Texas (or Indiana). It's far more social and far less of a grind. There are of course commitments to Saturday football games at the home stadium, and maybe some travel for nearby away games and/or bowl games, but there's none of those all-day or multi-day UIL or BOA competitions. And the in-week rehearsal schedule is far less rigorous as well.
