Getting the wheel of death when trying to purchase a JD Tanyard Hill Rye and MWND. The rabbit’s IT team is of course out of office. I have until Sunday morning to complete the purchase, so I better go down there tomorrow. Driving to Midtown to fix an IT issue will be a first.

I miss the good old days.

My local store (which is expensive because we're in the mountains and they can get away with it) wants $180 for MWND.  I laughed and said no, thanks.

I believe that’s close to MSRP. I’m on an island, but I like it and I’m OK with paying retail for it.

I'm over MWND at anything over $100 and as a novelty.

OF 1924 is about the only bottle I'm willing to pay over $100 for right now. Otherwise 1910 does me right for $60.

I used to get a bottle or two every year but it's just gotten silly.  I like it (especially this time of year) but I don't love it.

I paid $143 at Twin in Austin. That Twin typically sells at a reasonable price. First time I’d seen a bottle under $299.

Anyone know why folks were camped out in front of Still Austin yesterday?

Tanager release! I saw on instagram someone was lined up at like 7am the day before. Is that bottle worth it?

I have a couple gathering dust, so prob less than most, but I’d pull the trigger at $80-100

It’s honestly my least favorite expression of Batch 2 and I find it to be overrated, but it’s still solid drinking.

Interesting, is the overhyped of Buffalo Trace stuff dying off? Haven't bought a bottle of bourbon in probably going on 3 years so have no idea where the market is right now.

MSRP on Eagle Rare and ETL essentially doubled. Blanton’s is a cool $90-95 now.

I still think ER is a good buy at $50, but I won’t buy another bottle of Blanton’s or ETL unless I’m forced to in a bundle situation. Weller 12 and Antique have been $50 for several years.

They priced ER12 well. I believe it’s the same price as ER10. The new cask strength Sazerac rye is supposed to be under $50. BT is kind of a mixed bag on MSRP.

A guy on another message board admitting to spending $22k in 9 months at the Midtown Spec’s. He’s had some nice Vault pulls, but he’s not exactly blowing me out of the water and I’ve spent a small fraction of that. There’s some bottles like Heaven Hill 19 or OF Presidential that know I’m never going to get and that’s just fine.

Haven't made a drink at home, outside of palomas for a family cookout this past summer. Have only drank at restaurants with dinner or at sports bars/Stars games. Probably average 3-5 drinks a month over the last 3 years. Haven't been a big drinker since my sophomore year of college, but during covid started drinking at home too much for my liking so shut that down.

Not a bad week. WLW and Lot B. About what I usually get for Christmas. No idea when I can pick it up. Their turnaround is is averaging 10 business days.

WLW is the one bottle I've always wanted to try but have never gotten a chance to find. If anyone wants to sell one to help  fulfill a chap's last alcohol bucket item I'd be grateful.

It's best of 2025 list season for anything and everything, including bourbon. Sharing Breaking Bourbon's list for no other reason that it's a fun read and generates discussion. They listed the following:

  • Bulleit BIB
  • ER 17 year
  • Beam Lineage Batch 2
  • McLaughlin Distillery Cask Strength Baby Barrel
  • Woodford Chocolate Whisper Redux

Of these I have only had Bulleit BIB and thought it was fine, so maybe I need to give it another go. I'm not familiar with McLaughlin and would assume they don't distribute to TX, but seems like from their website they ship here? I always find our laws confusing on this point.

Breaking Bourbon also publishes lists for best American Single Malt, Finished Whiskey, American Whiskey, and Rye. Curious if anyone has thoughts on those lists as well!

Bulleitt BIB is nothing special. I’m pretty sure I still haven’t finished a bottle I opened months ago.

Had some Blanton’s Gold last weekend that I thought was some really good juice.

I had a $50 gift card for my birthday and randomly stopped in a liquor store on the south side of SA. They had a bottle for $180 which is the cheapest I've seen it in the GSA area. I probably over paid but I'm glad to read your comment.
