LOL, Cuba already has lots of low-paying hospitality jobs run by foreign operators, it’s just that now the Communist government officially pays even lower salaries with non-convertible peso and ration cards and keeps the hard currency for itself.

This. It would be better than what they have and an opportunity for more money to flow in. The US has done much better improving countries by spending money there peacefully than ordering change staring down the barrel of a rifle. Nobody likes that.

Does he have any eligibility left?  I think we have some money in the wreath fund that we could use to bring him here and have him run our grid.

Some landowners had a pretty nice life there, but I find it highly unlikely that they'd get their land back or be able to assemble anything resembling their old life under Emperador por vida del Estados Unidos Esteban Meeler.

Yeah, there is a mistaken belief with quite a few Cuban-Americans that they are going to be able to go back and claim great-grandpa's hacienda.

Dude. Like he'll allow ANYTHING that isn't Trump-branded to open there? Come on, man.

So lots of low paying hospitality jobs and money flowing to foreign companies? Sounds great for Cuba!

Better than cobalt mining. Of all the low-skill industries, seems hospitality is one of the less bad.

That was always my thought. We just lift the sanctions and we would bring down that regime with our money and crap in no time.

But it is what it is.

I do hold out hope that once that regime does fall then certain Cuban immigrants go home and find their roots.

It’s honestly close to being that simple. Lift the sanctions and travel restrictions, flood the place with tourists and money, and little blood will be shed.

But we won’t do that, we have to have a perp walk.

The focus has been on the US overthrowing the Cuban government, as it did in VZ, for reasons I can only think are due to dotard vanity.

Unfortunately Cuba is dependent on VZ oil to run their power grid and if supply falters the island's electric and water infrastructure will be threatened.

The Communist-run nation, a nearby neighbor and long-time foe of the United States, suffers daily, hours-long rolling blackouts that have decimated productivity and tested the patience of its exhausted residents.

Cuba depends on Venezuela’s crude and refined products - transported to the island by small vessels and a shadow fleet of sanctioned tankers - for a large portion of its consumption, according to shipping data and analysts.

Cuba on edge as U.S. seizure of oil tanker puts supply at...

Mexico ships Cuba little oil and isn't about to increase the qty.

Jorge Piñón, of the Energy Institute at the University of Texas at Austin, who tracks shipments using oil tracking services and satellite technology, shared similar data this week with the Associated Press for the same period. He had tracked 22,000 barrels per day and said that the figure dropped to 7,000 barrels after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Mexico City in September 2025.

Meanwhile, in the last three months, Maduro’s government exported an average of 35,000 barrels a day to Cuba, approximately a quarter of the island’s total demand, according to Piñón.

The academic saw no likelihood that Mexico would increase its shipments: “The U.S. government would go bonkers,” he said.

Mexico becomes crucial fuel supplier to Cuba but pledges...

Mexico has emerged as a key fuel supplier to Havana as the United States prepares to seize control of Venezuelan oil and the administration of U.S. President Trump hardens its stance toward Cuba.

I wonder what happens when Cuba has no electricity and no potable water.

We know they have no plan - they don't have enough forces to even take and control Caracas, let alone additional countries. They literally set up an operation to attack boats they think were running drugs, then rolled that into a blockade of tankers (which was absolute shit that they had to chase a fucking oil tanker all hte way to the North Sea), and rolled that into a decapitation of the country's leadership (while leaving Maduro's people in power).

They have not thought about Cuba without electricity/water/food/etc. nor have they thought about Venezuela without food.

I need to go read the VZ thread but I wonder if they've thought about the VZ insurgents riddling the VZ oil infra with huge blasts, like what UKR has done to RUZ but worse because they're just a few miles away from the targets.

And we do not have any troops that can currently secure any of that infrastructure. That would be a fucking nightmare that takes 10s of thousands of troops.
