I recorded this huge herd of mule deer two weeks ago east of Rapid City. I missed the first ~50 getting my iPhone ready, and there were dozens more in the field just beyond the stubble that are hard to make out in the video. There were a good 250 total.

This is 2 miles from where I got stuck in a line of cars 10 years ago waiting for a big herd to cross the highway. A friend was close to the front of the line and saw most of the herd. He claimed to have stopped counting at 200, but he’s a Sooner, so I assumed he was lying.

I was driving this same stretch of road as in my earlier video (above). The muleys in these two photos total a bit over 200, and there were at least another 100 in groups of 20-30. They were all within a mile of each other. The photos are shitty because the windows were closed and the deer were further from the road.

All of the dark pixelated specks in this one are deer.

Outside of this mass concentration of deer, all I saw was groups of 5-10 every so often. I have no explanation for this. I am befuddled.

I have a sugar momma (not really, but kind of) that let's me hunt her land 10 min from my house. Finally got a chance to put up a game cam in one spot I saw a lot of sign. This big momma showed up not long ago. Haven't had a chance to go back out and get her. Looks pregnant to me.

A few pages back, I posted Elk pics taken over a span of about one hour until some rambunctious young bulls decided they needed to fight my trail cams. I went to my land about a month later and reset the cams to almost 8’. This week I started getting pings that they were back, and sure enough, the cams were again of great interest.

Looks like I might have to raise them higher:

One of the boys took issue with a branch that I had left on the ground. He drug it off and placed it in front of the cam. Now, every time the wind picks up and a needle quivers, I get deluged with pings from pics being sent. I’ll just keep lowering the motion sensitivity until it takes a full grown ass elk dancing from 10’ away to set it off.

No. The deer are in on it, too. There’s something about that damn branch. I was last out there almost 6 weeks ago - wearing gloves - so you’d think my scent would have faded by now.

similar work ahead for me, though I think I will be doing small triangular enclosures with 2-4 bunces of Little Bluestem in each.  Driving T-posts is easily my least favorite chore

I bought one of these last year. We move feeders and pens so much, works like a charm. I think I may have brought it up earlier in this thread, or the one from last year.

See that feed pen? I built it with me own two hands, but do they call me CHIEF, the pen builder? No. But you fuck one post driver…

If you are in dirt with minimal rocks, it will drive a 6 ft. T-post over two and a half feet deep in about 10 seconds.

Zero hogs on our place.  Never seen them.  In the northern part of Coleman county they have them as they have oaks, but where we are it's nothing but mesquites and cactus.

We have them in King County, but they are sparsely populated as there are no large wheat fields within 7-8 miles of our pasture. When we hunted at Aspermont, they were as thick as mosquitos. You would see 75 a day, mainly in the wheat fields. In the winters, that's where they concentrate as it is the only place to get grass with nutrients. If we see any in King County, it is big individuals, or small sounders that show up to the feeder.

The pigs ebb and flow for us in Kimble County.  We don't have any live water other than two cisterns, but we have two dry creeks that will hold some water when it's wet.  That's when we typically see an influx.  My dad took two little guys Thursday morning.  He waited for mama and she never showed.  These were about 10 lb each.

From a hunting standpoint, I like having them out there in small numbers, but holy crap I've seen how destructive they can be.  The place I hunted in Live Oak County 15 years ago had two big pastures that were completely lost because the hogs rooted them up so much that the rancher couldn't even harvest the coastal.  We do our best to keep them at bay!

My brother and I are planning a public lands pronghorn hunt in Wyoming this fall.  I thought I would check the hive mind to see if any of y'all have any pointers.  We are not looking for trophies but to add a little variety to the freezer.  I am thinking that we will camp near the truck and day hike.  If we are lucky, we will bring home the meat and process it ourselves.  We have three years of preference points.  We are looking at driving with a stopover in Colorado.

This poorly written article might explain why the distribution maps of feral hogs show an area in north central North Dakota. Thanks for the brilliant idea, Canada.

Meant to quote this. We don’t have them in SD, but we’ll probably get the Canadian Super Pigs someday.

Pronghorn are surprisingly tasty, considering what they have to eat. You might not have to add sage to your breakfast sausage.

I had a Great-Great Uncle that went pronghorn hunting back in the 1950's. The rancher was his guide, and simply hung his coat on a fencepost next to a water trough. Pronghorns are extremely curious, and after a while the whole herd had to come see what it was that was hanging on the fencepost. He picked out the biggest buck and shot him.

I received that, as well.

Knowing it was aggy that sent it out, using crayons I drew stick figure images so they would understand my answers.
