I should take off work and play video games and crush an oven pizza more often. Maybe 5-7 days a week.

I used to do this whenever Destiny would have a new DLC launch, was some good times. I plan on doing this whenever GTA6 or a new Fallout launches.

We should setup a Surly Discord voice chat for when GTA6 launches.  Bunch of middle-aged people reminiscing about the earlier GTAs.

We did this a bit when GTAO launched. I randomly remember @Bookman duping a sweet car for me.  I think it was a yellow sports car and the licence plate was BOOKMAN or however close you can get. Something involving going in and out of your garage.

GTAO was the fuckin wild west when it first launched with all the bugs and exploits. People enabling god mode in free roam. People duping millions of dollars, handing it out to random people, totally fucking up the progression and in-game economy.

One of my best memories is figuring out how to defeat some choad who was terrorizing a server with God Mode. I figured out I could knock him over with my car and trap him in an endless locked animation of getting up and getting immediately knocked down again. I trolled him for like 10-15 straight minutes. Don't recall who blinked first.

GTA is not really my bag but I had some fun with GTA5. I'd definitely be down to clown.

I don't know if I want to replay Oblivion, which I have, or get the remaster. The appeal of paying for the game again to see it in UE5, plus hopefully balance fixes, but the same great sidequests is very tempting.

Either way, I feel like I can't do that until I've finished BG3. But I'm at the Iron Throne now, and I really, REALLY want to get that one right without dropping the difficultly level.

BG3 is on my to-do list.

4 has some issues apparently. Prob going to wait for it to go on sale to give it a go.

I had setup a Shaggy gamertag spreadsheet years ago for getting people to game together. I played some Battlefield 4 and lots of Destiny with some folks. Don't recall doing any GTA with that group, but I'm sure it will be fun. I plan on getting BF6 when it launches in October.

Discord would be easier to use though, and people can jump in games whenever. I wonder if Immamac has one setup for Surly.

He did at one point, and it may still exist. Didn’t seem to go over very well at the time.

I’ve used it more than I thought I would with some other games. I’m not the most enthusiastic about it, but there’s no other alternative since ICQ and AIM went away, and IRC has fallen into disuse.  “A/S/L?” doesn’t feel the same on Discord as it did on ICQ.

Disc is the gold standard right now and justifiably so. Main downside is it can eat a lot of system resources if you're on a budget setup.

I am more than happy to set up a channel for everyone and walk anyone through setup that's new to the platform.

Very easy to hand out admin permissions, as well. I'm not interested in lording discord server power over anyone. I would just need a picture of your wang on file for anyone wanting admin status.

BG3 is an incredible game and is really truly like playing D&D with a good DM. The systems are all sooooo well realized, if you can think of a lateral solve for a puzzle or challenge, or get out of a tight situation with stealth or charisma checks, the game still rewards you with XP and progression.

It's some stellar game design, and a big BIG game that lets you do quite literally whatever the hell you want.

whoof, EA is getting saddled with $20,000,000,000 in debt from their own buyout. Gotta love LBO's

Get ready for a sense of pride and accomplishment in your games! Prince MBS has gotta get his money back so he can order more journalists chopped up and butchered

It always works out in the end in these kind of deals...

I remember back when EA acquired Austin's own Origin.  Origin made the Ultima games, Wing Commander and lots of other games like Space Rogue (which I am credited on).  Origin was one of the old school giants of the industry.  I say was because EA shut that shit down as a cost savings move.  No more Ultima, no more WC, no more for an Austin original company. It always works out...

That thing is small and cool looking.  And probably should worry Microsoft and Sony a bit.

My favorite has been Steam's relatively tiny VR group producing a significantly superior product to Apple and Meta's VR offerings. The fact that valve is contributing major open source development to x86->ARM and Windows->Linux compatability layers is wild, SteamOS running on the ARM-based headset is a BIG deal

https://github.com/FEX-Emu/FEX

Can't wait to see that lead to more games running on cell phones natively. Hell my S24U is more powerful than an Xbox One from 10 years ago, why shouldn't it be able to natively run games from 15 years ago?

Def. interested in the Steam Machine. I would love to have a "console" that could take advantage of Steam's library and prices, assuming it has enough guts to run more demanding games.  I recently bought Clair Obscur at a nice discount on Steam and the performance was so shitty on my computer that I had to request a refund (granted).

Sidenote, you can almost always get a refund from Steam if you request one within 14 days of purchase and have played for less than 2 hours total.

Valve's new Steam Machine is a SteamOS-powered mini PC over six times faster than a Steam Deck | PC Gamer

"Our benchmark has always been that it should have enough performance to play every game on Steam at 4K60 when you do some sort of upscaling like FSR," Aldehayyat says.

That's a lofty goal. I had a chance to play Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K with FSR enabled at Valve's HQ, and it ran pretty well on the plucky Steam Machine. It was certainly playable, with no significant frame rate drops during my brief time with it. But neither was it a totally fluid experience, and I enjoyed much smoother gameplay by switching to 1080p, even without any upscaling technology enabled.

I can see why Valve is targeting setting its sights on 4K. With the popularity of 4K TVs for living rooms, that's likely to be the native resolution of a TV that the Steam Machine sits in front of. Needless to say, this sets the bar pretty high for Valve's little machine.

The Steam Machine is many times faster than the Steam Deck. Over six times faster, according to Valve. Though the older handheld isn't the best point of comparison for the more modern, discrete components in the Steam Machine. Compared to a modern gaming PC, the Steam Machine is fairly underpowered. Quite literally, as it only packs a 200 W power supply—a fraction of the size of most modern desktop gaming PCs.

SteamOS will also work to Valve's benefit for performance. In my colleague's comparative testing on the Lenovo Legion Go S, using SteamOS saw an increase of as much as 32% in Cyberpunk 2077 compared to Windows 11. While improvements may be less pronounced on more powerful hardware, Valve's own OS should reduce overheads and allow for higher frames per second than comparable kit using Windows.

Valve just dropped a ton of news! Steam Controller 2, Steam Frame (VR headset), Steam Machine (x86 linux gaming box running SteamOS), and even friggin SteamOS for ARM

So they are dropping three pieces of hardware next year that can work together.

What else are they dropping that revolves around the number three?
