Texas Rangers 2024: Run It Back

Feel like the team is scuffling along but someway, somehow we’re 12-11 and still in first. Picked up 2 games on the Astros on the tough 10 game road trip. And all while Jung is on the DL and the Carter/ Langford/Seager trio haven’t really started hitting yet. Plus, pitching reinforcements on the way. Every game we play where we remain in first and stay at or above .500 is nothing but positive news.

My season win prediction was predicated on 40 first half wins and then 50 second half after pitching gets right, so hovering around .500 was the expectation. But pitching has been better than expected for the most part (and exactly as expected for one particular relief pitcher) so the offense underperforming feels like it’s cost the team some wins.

surprised to see adolis's OPS at 0.985 after all those ks and no walks.

His SO% is 23%, continuing his trend of it dropping every year. Small sample still, but it was 27% last year and 2022.

His chase rate is higher though so far this year.

that's been encouraging.  look at his walk rate though, 6.3% compared to 10.3% last year.  ouch.  in 21 and 22 his walk rates were 5.1% and 6.1% and we were saying that's what he needed to change to become more consistent.

Long way from mattering, but little Josh may be our 9th starter over Wyatt when big Josh gets back.

Josh Smith has impressed me thus far this season.

Caught some of the game on my drive home last night. They were talking about Wyatt possibly having the most outside of the zone pitches called strikes in MLB. He's obviously struggling but this isn't helping.
