Texas Softball 2025 - Sick of Being Second Place

the pitching coach is flat awful in calling games.  Morgan didn't throw one inside pitch or anything reasonably off speed that I saw.  It was all nibbling on the outside corner or  meat over the middle of the plate.

also, we are like a David Pierce staff we have pitchers that top out at 68, like a baseball staff with guys who throw 92 max.  it is just meat to good and not even great lineups if you don't have movement or change of speed.

Getting run-ruled today might be the best thing that could happen to us.

Doubtful but maybe.

Speaking of 3rd, aggy may get their 3rd softball national title before Texas gets their first. They wondered the wilderness for decades since their last title in the 80s, but they are major contenders once again, and they might get a chip next month.

They wont. You are overrating them when we are throwing our worst pitchers tonight. We will not be relying on BigMac or Cambria at all when it counts in the postseason. It will be the Kavan and Citlaly show. What an absolute failure Morgan has been this year, she should be embarrassed.

Katie Stewart is too fat and slow to play SS. What a stupid decision to play her there.

Texas A&M would shell any of our pitchers.  They also kicked our asses in a scrimmage last Fall.

Singleton and our fat ass pitching coach need to be fired. I’m also ready to upgrade Mike White if he doesn’t make coaching moves in the offseason.

Losing a home series to Tennessee, getting swept by OU, and getting run-ruled by A&M means this program has issues and changes must be made.

Our freshman recruits are not elite players.

A&M would sweep us in a Super Regional.

I dont think they would sweep us. Kavan would win a game. Also the good news is that we wont have to play them till Omaha.

This is embarrassing.  Fire Mike White!

He’s not getting fired off one game

Of course not, but tonight CDC needs to send him a cryptic "See me in my office when you get back to Austin" text.
And in that meeting Mike should be asked to layout what his plan is going forward with the program.

The problems on this team run deep and start at the top. Those of us who have watched all year have known (whether we admitted it or not) that this is not a top 10 team.  Our record is fools' gold.

1) recruiting - I got worried in the fall when I noticed all three newcomers did not look good. Like should-not-have-been-offered-not good.  We did nothing in the portal. I'm not sure I can trust his evals anymore.

2) Assistants - SS is a baseball guy who knows how to coach mechanics for our big bats.  Our gameplans against good teams are not effective.  Our in-game adjustments against good teams are non-existent.  He still hasn't taught anyone other than Mia how to adjust to offspeed.  Worse, we don't even seem to hunt offspeed when we know it's coming.  Back to scouting and adjustments.  Just laziness.

PRT has been a failure this year.  The pitchers obviously haven't developed in the offseason. Every single one of them has gotten worse (though that's a MW special see below).  Her pitch calling in games seems iffy. The pitchers are fragile when facing adversity.

3) MW has a pitchers problem.  I've been on an island saying this, but something is going on with our pitching development and has been for sometime.  Way too many of our pitchers go downhill after their first or second year.  I'll just take MM as an example. Do we really think she just forgot how to throw a dropball? Something she's done since she was a little kid?  She was one of the best in the country at that the last two years.  Her dropball was elite. Now she just throws belt high  meatballs right over the plate.

4) lineup - why in the world does KB even play?  Can't hit, can't field, shouldn't have been offered.  Why does KS play short?  If you are going to have LG in the lineup, you have to move her back to SS.  She's error prone, but she's the best we got.  Why don't we ever break up our lefty lineup a bit when facing lefty aces?  We're just inviting innings of nothing happening at the plate.

5) the little things - Why are  we the stupidest baserunning team in America, every year?  It's just sloppiness and lack of attention to detail.

I honestly think MW is realistically the best we are gonna do.  He's taken us to two MNC finals.  Who else would we want to replace him?  No one thought Ford would piss a drop at TAMU.  Are we willing to take a gamble on someone like that?

But, he needs to do a tear down on the program and do some real soul searching.  And some portal searching.  I'm not sure he will or can do what it takes though.

Every single bit of this. If this team doesn't shape up pronto (highly unlikely) and then, come fall, have much better talent at several positions (besides Vivi) and better coaching, we might realize Mike White is just a much more likable Tom Herman. By that I mean way better than the previous HC, but not the ultimate answer as a roster builder, tactician or leader. Although I'm honestly not sure who out there would be.

Simpson going to go from not pitching at all during the regular season to saving our asses in the playoffs.  Bet it.

At this point, I trust her more than Big Mac. Never thought I’d say that early in the season.

All of us can agree that losing Vivi left a huge whole in this team’s offense and defense that we were not prepared  to fill. To me though the crucial fault of this team has been the pitching staff.  The longer the season progressed the mediocre pitching  staff was exposed. White seemed to be sold that TK was a program solid #1.  The reality is that we currently do not have a solid #1 or #2 pitcher.  TK is and could be an efficient #2.  We currently do not have a #1 season strong pitcher on this staff.  We will continue be a better than mediocre team but not elite team until we can acquire an elite #1 pitcher.  In today’s softball universe that quality pitcher is pretty rare and they can be demanding.  If we want elite pitching we are going to have to pay for it.  If we refuse or can’t bring the cash we will remain mediocre.

They almost beat us in Austin last year in the supers. So- a year or two ago.

They’ve been pissed at us ever since we knocked them out of the Supers…revenge, and it definitely won’t happen this year.

well at least we aren't getting run ruled and got 2 more periods to climb back in it with the Stars.

Will be interesting to watch aggy vs ou on Sunday…aggy is a hard nose, blue collar team, oozing with condidence….ou has great 5* young players oozing with confidence as well.  These two could end up playing for it all in OKC.  They have yet to play each other this year.

Can’t root for either.

Kavan is an ace, a top 5 pitchers in the country.   The offense in the NCAA has just become so good that everyone except Canday is giving up runs.    White needs to adapt and give different looks faster.   Trying to make I through the SEC by only 3 pitchers was a mistake.  Now you are trying to get Salmon and Simpson lessons that could of been developed.

If you don’t have a pitcher that can at least half-dominant the opposing hitters, you have no chance in this league.  Pitchers have to have different pitches which includes an off-speed pitch….throwing 65-67 mph fast balls isn’t enough.  Got to move the ball and outsmart good hitters.  Last year TK threw the best game of her life against OU…..Gasso could not figure her out….not sure what has changed, perhaps a sophomore jinx.  She has to find the pitcher she was last year and straighten out things.

She still has it, she was 1st team all SEC.  Shut down LSU, Florida, Tennessee.    I think the biggest issue has been the walks because the hitters are so patient they are forcing her into the zone after falling behind.

does no one on this staff have an out pitch?

According to the graphic, BIG Mac throws 94% Drop and 6% Curve.   (Who knew she had the curve?)  Apparently she hasn't been taught or challenged to throw a Change-up in three years on campus.  She's been serving up her "drop" belt-high more and more, with predictable results.  That MW started her against aggy was the first clue he was ready to go home and regroup for regionals.  He wanted no part of 0U and probably knew he couldn't beat aggy with any of the others, either.  In short, BIG Mac was sacrificed to get some rest.   We can hope that will be her last appearance as a Longhorn, with appreciation for her past contributions.

This is an issue for all the pitchers.  They don't change speeds for strikes enough.  You have to have that threat unless you throw upper 70s.

Mac had one pitch, the drop ball. When the ags showed they could lay off the low ball Mike should’ve made the change. She is throwing batting practice at that point.
