Headed there in mid May for 4 nights. Seeing Oh Mary and sunset blvd.

Staying in upper west side (79th street) and looking for some nice places to eat nearby (not Michelin or 5 star but just some quality older places that are nyc establishments).

Also need a rec for a great jazz club (traditional old school type place, not hip and trendy).

Finally , son lives in Bed Stuy neighborhood in Brooklyn so looking for a couple of recs for drinks and dinner nearby.

Thanks.

Check out Village Vanguard. Other old-school options: Blue Note, Small's, Birdland.

UWS is a bit of a culinary wasteland. But if you're staying on W 79th, you should make the trek to Barney Greengrass for breakfast or lunch. Very worthwhile NY institution.

Agree with all of this. I do have a soft spot for Cafe Lux on 70th.

I think @txduck87 will find that most/all on this forum have aged out of bed study so we probably won’t have the best recs. It’s also a huge neighborhood. I can recommend Winona’s at the very top of the neighborhood, and have plenty of recs in adjacent neighborhoods like Williamsburg and Fort Green, but honestly your son will know best.

Finally, I just note that UWS, while a nice neighborhood and a good tourist spot with museums and the park and so forth, is a longggggg way from bed stuy. I assume you know that and have planned accordingly.

Yeah, we usually stay more midtown but wanted to go for a little less “hectic” this trip. Kid just moved there so he’s learning some spots and yes, we’ve allotted much time to see his new digs and hang with the youngster. :)

Great recs, usually a night at Blue Note or Birdland is my favorite night in Manhattan. Bonus for Blue Note because it's a quick walk to Pomme Frites by NYU.

That’s great. There is nothing like being in your 20s in New York, especially during the honeymoon period.
